Chapter 5 - Backstory part 2

In those dark days that the little girl spent in her room, some of the books explained how to cultivate and some special techniques. She had reading as her only entertainment and thus it interested her and she spent a lot of her time following whatever the books said.

To her, it was just for fun and something to take away her boredom. She didn't know how much talent she had for it, because she had no one to compare herself to and thus she just kept getting better and better.

Most people would eat, sleep, play, learn and then cultivate, but she saw no use to cultivation if she couldn't use it in her daily life. Her daily life was only sleeping, eating and reading, so when she found that anything could be made easier when using special "moves" she tried even harder to perfect them.

This resulted in her cultivating and practising at all times of the day. They say the more you practice something, the better you would get naturally and all she did was practice them, even for the smallest of tasks.

This once again resulted in her physically doing even less and she formed a lazy personality due to her being used to never having to do anything. This personality trait stuck with her, even when the little boy convinced his parents to move her to his room and brought her out to play. He was the first person to talk to her properly and the first to care. Naturally she got attached to him and trusted him.

Even though she was no longer sick due to her internal energy increasing and all her reading about self healing through cultivation, their parents did not treat her as their child. They didn't personally raise her an thus did not know what weird habits and personality flaws she might have gotten as she got older.

It also didn't help that she almost never showed any emotion and they couldn't know what she was thinking or feeling. She couldn't act like a normal kid, because she didn't know what normal was.

Of course the little boy could always understand what she was thinking or feeling, maybe it was instinct or a deeper bond that only twins could feel. But the damage was done and the rift was already created, it was too late to fix it.

She was about twelve when she left her room for the first time with the little boy and after a few weeks of the two of them just playing around and him showing her the world outside, both of them were sent to school. In those few weeks, she never thought to show anybody her cultivation because she thought it was perfectly normal and that everybody could do the same, but chose not to use it in daily life. She didn't realise until one of the first days of school.

She stuck very close to her twin anywhere they went, he was her only support beam and she trusted only him. When a few boys asked him if he wanted to play a upped soccer game (Basically soccer, but you can use magical energy to kick the ball and block.) he turned to his twin and saw her big emotionless eyes that stared deeply at him. He knew she was silently asking if he was going to leave her. He turned back to the boys.

"I'll only play if my sis can play as well. And we have to be on the same team."

"Eh!!"

Everyone was surprised at his answer and the way that he said it so strongly. They all assumed that he would jump at any chance to get away from his super clingy twin. She just popped out of nowhere and always hung around him.

To them, she was like an alien. She was super pale and looked so delicate she could break if you touched her and the biggest problem was her emotionlessness. She wouldn't laugh or cry, no matter what.

Everyone was very uncomfortable with her joining their game, but the boy was a really good friend of theirs and everybody wanted him on their team. In the end, they agreed and put the twins in one of the teams.

Everything was going smoothly, until a ball came at the boy at a very high speed. That would have been fine if it wasn't aiming straight for his head. Her instincts kicked in and she jumped using magical energy (ME, cause it's a pain to keep typing magical energy.) and kicked the ball using much more force than was needed. This caused the ball to go flying into a fountain and all that was seen was an explosion, followed with a spray of water and a dust cloud.

The children were all terrified and ran away from the twins. They weren't sure which one of the twins could use so much ME, but it was obviously abnormal. After the dust settled, the only people left in the area were the little boy and girl lying on top of one another in a daze.

The school informed the twin's parents about the incident and they were forced to pay for the repair of the fountain. The little boy explained quietly to the girl that her amount of power was far stronger and strange than everybody else's when they were alone.

He promised to protect her from the wrath of their parents and anybody that might want to cause trouble about the accident. The only way he could think to protect her entirely was to shift the blame onto him, none of the other kids could see it was her anyway.

Thus when he told their parent that he was the one that destroyed the fountain, they were overflowed with joy. They thought that their son was a prodigy, to already be this strong at such a young age. Not only did he not get scolded, he even got praised by his parents, teachers and even other grown ups.

Eventually the kids understood that he was powerful and with the motivation from their parents to become good friends with him, they all approached him. He glowed in the light, but also wanted to include his sister. The problem was that he couldn't expose the fact that she was the one that had all the power.

The little girl which everybody already knows is called Mae and the boy Asher, were seen as the wonder boy and his tag-along sister. Unfortunately, people disliked her even more and branded her as using her powerful brother to gather fame and attention. Mae saw how much her brother loved the attention he was receiving and she admired how brave he was to take the blame in the beginning, so she convinced herself that she didn't want nor need attention from anyone except her brother. That thought strengthened when others lightly bullied or ignored her, she started believing that blending into the shadow of her brother was the correct path to take.

This is how they ended up as they were now. It did sometimes have it's ups and downs, but if she could go back, she would have made the same decision. The smiling face of her brother was one of the most precious things in her life and as long as he kept smiling, she could as well.

She opened her eyes to find her brother at her room door, after all the lights in the house were off. His whisper made her move over to make space for him on her bed.

"Let's watch something fun on the TV before bed sis."

After both of them were comfortable, she switched on the television in her room and they watched until dawn.

Even though he always got a lot of attention, he still always came back to her. He never forgot or got arrogent. She was proud to bear the title of being his twin.
