In the next few weeks, things seemed calm and normal. Mae had to fight a few people that challenged Asher and a few people from other schools that wanted their reputation to rise.
Her life was the ideal lazy life that she strived for, except for their parents that were constantly trying to make things difficult for her.
They nagged her about getting a job and how their house isn't a hotel and she should work to stay in it. Asher made things more bearable and mostly redirected their attention, but sometimes it would lead to them badmouthing her and trying to force her to learn more to be more like him.
She was also running out of ideas for reasons to get her brother to the bathroom before a fight to let them switch and she was getting really annoyed with all the challenges recently. She could vaguely remember owning a book with a secret technique to switch places with someone, but it was somewhere under her piles of unread books.
all of the challenges also just randomly started with something like this...
"Fight me!"
Some random person yelled. She neacrly tripped over her own feet. Her brother turned to look at her with pleading eyes that made her sigh.
"Brother!"
she said in a overly girly voice.
"First let me speak to you in private."
She basically dragged him to swap their apearences.
He SO owed her after this one.
And so...it was finally quiet again when first term exams were around the corner. For a while...
Of course this would barely be a fitting story to tell. So something had to happen and that something came in the form of a group of girls.
In a dark classroom at Pride academy, a group that called themselves 'Ash club' were having a serious meeting.
"I don't care what we have to do, but we have to get his attention!"
"We could try talking to him more. Make him remember us."
"That won't work. He is naturally kind to everyone and won't give anyone extra attention."
"But isn't there that one girl that's around him a lot more than others?"
"You mean his sister? She's no competition, he's clearly irritated with her constantly buzzing around him."
"Maybe he'll thank us if we remove her? Then we get his attention remove a bother!"
Thus a group of delusional girls decided to get rid of a supposed fly.
Their first plan of action was to lure Mae away and dispose of her that way Asher wouldn't feel the need to help her. The best part of the plan was that even if it failed and he decided to come rescue her out of a sense of duty, they could get his attention.
Mission one was put into action the moment school ended that day. They stood guard at all the exits and waited for her to walk out to confront her.
They all had their communication amulets that flashed when they pressed it, to alert the others that they found her.
The only problem was that they didn't see her at all! They waited hours, but she still didn't show!
Their spirits were lowered considerably, but they refused to give up easily. So they repeated this for the rest of the week.
On the next Monday of school, they gathered one again to discuss their plan.
"I give up! where does she go after school? I even looked through the whole school and asked everybody I saw. No one even recognized her. It's like she's a ghost!"
"Maybe she already caught onto us and is avoiding us and covering her tracks. She's good. Well have to up our game!"
And so, they once again started with mission 1.5. This time they were aquiped with her classroom numbers and even got permission to leave class earlier at the end of the day.
They ran after their last class and arrived at the outside of Mae's classroom huffing and puffing. They looked like bodyguards ready to defend their employer if one were to walk down the empty halls.
Even though our lovely overpower Mae has amazing skills that no one we've met so far can compare with, she has no mind reading ability and is far to lazy to pay attention to other people's weird actions.
The only thing she wanted was to read the next part of the new cultuvation book that Asher gave her. She had spent the last week teleporting directly into the library and then teleporting home, because she missed the bus.
Today she was on one of the last pages and the suspension was killing her. The moment the bell rang for the end of the school day, she was already up from her seat with her backpack slung over one shoulder.
She wasn't the only one that rushed to get out and she still had to make all her movements look human and thus to her, it was slow... so slow was all she thought as she tried to push her way outside the classroom.
She had perfected the art of blending into the crowd over the last few years and easily slipped past the bodygaurd-looking girls waiting outside.
She suspected that they were waiting to ambush her brother. She shook her head sadly, thinking "poor thing". He had to put up with such issues like stalkers.
The girls waiting outside once again missed their target that slipped by unbeknownst to them and lightly pushed into the crowded hallway. That girl then mysteriously disappeared without anyone noticing.
Their mission had again been foiled by the ignorant and slothful (Oms!! Just gotta put this in! This is an actual word. It popped up when I looked for other words like lazy.) girl.
This luck could of course not last long and the next day, they finally caught her. They pulled her to the side and surrounded her.
The first thing that popped up in Mae's head was,
" Oh my! Is this the legendary encounter where the jealous lovestruck girls want to bully the sister of their love interest? I always thought it was a myth from fairytales, but surprisingly the books don't lie."
One of the main girls that could be seen as one of the leaders started talking in a overly friendly voice.
"Hey, your name's Mae right? We want to go shopping Friday after school. We've ways seen how kind you are and we really want you to be our friend!"
She was about to refuse, but it really interested her. Her expression didn't give away her thoughts and all the girls surrounding her only saw an unemotional pale doll staring back. In her mind though, it was different.
"Should she refuse and finish her book? She didn't have time to play nice with others that just wanted to get close with her brother. Bother him, not me! But on the other hand... wouldn't her brother be much happier if she had a few friends, even if they were fake."
"He was always worried about her not having anyone besides him, even if he was secretly proud as well. He kept nagging her to try to make friends." These thoughts gave her a headache.
"The scale was filled with books and other lazy thoughts on one side and her brother that she loved dearly on the other. Tip to the left, tip to the right."
"Stuff it! Her brother was more important and she could catch up with lost time to be lazy later. He was the reason she could be lazy anyway."
Finally resolving herself and bracing for an extremely unlazy day, she tried her damned hardest to smile and answered with a simple,
"Sure."
All her hard work was seen as a tiny curl of her lips that could barely pass a as a smile that stunned everyone. Her soft voice was melodious and beautiful. It somehow felt like they had acquired a limited addition doll.
