Chereads / BLACK SWAN / Chapter 2 - In Dias village

Chapter 2 - In Dias village

Part 1.

The next day I reached Dias village by carriage. The sun was giving a blazing shine in the sky.

Though we had to stop in the night for a brief amount of time so that the horses could rest, I made it here by noon.

There weren't any monster attacks nor bandit raids on us as the driver took a safe relatively safe path to get here.

Guess we were lucky this time, huh?

By the time I got off the carriage, I was starving. It's like mice were running in my stomach, metaphorically speaking.

At first, I better give an intro about Dias village.

'Dias' village a big village. Way bigger than other villages in its vicinity.

As it has a small branch of Merchants guild, its value is higher than other villages. One could say that this village is a center for all other villages near it.

After I enter the tavern I find a free table and sit there waiting for the waitress to come.

After some time a waitress comes in my way.

'What would you like to have for today, sir?'

'What's on the menu? Lay it on me.'

'Lay it on me? ' she asks, not getting what I meant to say.

'Nothing,' I reply.

After hearing about the menu from her I think for a while.

'Give me a plate of Dias special curry-rice, extra hot.'

'Hot?' She asks, perplexed.

'Sorry, I mean extra spicy.'

'Oh…okay.'

After taking my order the blonde-haired ponytailed waitress goes into the kitchen. But before she enters the kitchen, she looks at me, frowning and giving me a strange look.

She probably thinks I'm someone strange. It's not her fault though. These guys don't get gestures sued on earth.

While my order is arriving I think about today's quest.

A Kobold extermination quest wasn't hard. It was a perfect one for newbies. But since the guild issued it as a B-rank quest there must be a catch to this.

I needed to talk to the village head for more details.

While I was pondering on what to do after having my lunch, the food arrived.

Well, I'll think about what I'll do after I eat. After all, you can't think nor fight properly on an empty stomach, right?

Part 2.

After I've had my lunch I feel much better than before.

I look around and my gaze finds the waitress. I call her.

'Yes?'

She asks me what do I want.

'I'd like to pay my bill.'

'It'll be 5 copper.'

'Here you go.'

'Thank you.

'Wait!'

I call out to her.

'Yes?'

'Does this tavern double as a hotel?'

'Yes, it does.'

'Then I'll make a reservation, please. How much for one night?'

'Do you want to reserve a room with a bath or without one?'

'It's 1 bronze for rooms with baths, without bath 10 copper.

Hearing the price, I fell somewhat hesitant. Should I spend the night in the woods instead?

'I'll take the one with a bath then.'

'Ok. The tavern is open all night, so you can come to check-in, in the deep night if you have to, you can pay the bill before you check out tomorrow.'

'Thanks.'

After I come out of the tavern, I ask some villagers where is the village heads house.

After reaching the heads house I knock on the door.

A middle-aged man opens the door.

'Is this the village heads house?'

The man nods and asks who do I need to meet.

'I need to speak with the village head, I'm here to complete the quest issued by the guild. It's about kobolds.'

The man asks me to come in and follow him.

He leads me into a room. It was small, but the way the furniture was laid out, it didn't look like a small room.

I see a frail and weak old man sitting in the only bed in the room with great difficulty.

The middle-aged man says to me that the old man is 'Sayek Laham' the village head.

I didn't know how could I start a conversation with the old man.

'Umm…what is wrong with Mr. Sayek?'

'The kobolds attacked our village 5 days ago. My father was a capable adventurer in his prime. The kobolds were great in numbers, but he drew all of them away. Until.... '

'Until?'

'Something big came yesterday with the kobolds. My father fought it and got injured while killing several kobolds and injuring 'It' in the process.'

'His injury is not normal is it?'

'No, that thing used some kind of sword we've never seen. It struck father, inflicting some sorts of a curse.'

The man in front of me starts to weep.

'Did you send the church a message?'

'We . . .did.'

'When will they come?'

'I don't know.'

'Well, help the old man to hang on for a while. I'm going to finish my quest.'

Saying this I leave the house.
