'Wait for me under a shade! I'll come pick you up!'
Wu put down his phone and cleaned his hands with a ragged cloth while walking into the house to change with a sweet smile.
'She's here?' his mom asked anxiously behind him.
His rough hands ran over his newly changed shirt, soaked with his sweat. He looked at his mom with his gleaming big eyes, with the same sickly sweet smile.
'She's here.'
Today is her first time meeting his parents.
The sun was deadly. There was a huge garbage bin not far from Wu's house, the revolting smell could travel to every household at this time of every year. When he walked past this garbage bin, an ice cream packaging got stuck under his sole. He stomped and dragged his feet, a crowd of files dissipated almost immediately.
Yue was standing at the entrance of the street, face full of impatience and irritation.
Spotting his figure coming near her, she felt a gush of annoyance. Not sure if she saw the layer of fats on his once lean tummy; or the sparse hairs on top of his head; or his oily face from the fumes...
'Let's go, dinner is almost ready.' he grabbed her hand.
She shook off his hand, her face hidden in the shadows of the leaves, revealing only her attractively cold eyes.
'What's wrong? You're nervous?' he smiled warmly, 'It's going to be alright. My mom won't make things difficult for you. She knew you're coming, she was so excited, she even went to buy groceries early this morning.'
'I think...we're better off without each other,' she said.
Wu thought he heard it wrongly. He stared at her, speechless. She said again, 'We being together is not fun.' 'Not fun? I think it's rather fun.' She smiled bitterly, 'That's just you.' After saying her piece, she was about to turn and leave when he grabbed her.
'Yue Yue, we've been together for seven years now. We can't just break, at least give me a reason.'
She glared at him, 'Can seven years worth of pain be counted as a reason?'
'We can stop the pain!'
She flared up, spitting words with no mercy from her cherry lips, 'Let me tell you, stop bullshitting, I'm not joking with you. From now on, we have officially broken up. You and I are just friends.'
'We're doing just fine, why are you breaking up with me?' Wu is trying hard to salvage anything, if anything is left. 'Tell me what's wrong with me, I can change!'
She rolled her eyes, 'There's nothing good about you! Just die and reborn!'
Wu was stubborn, 'I don't believe you.'
'You don't believe me? There's no reason for you not to believe me!' her beautiful face is now red in anger. 'I didn't want to state them clear for what little dignity you had left. Since you don't find it embarrassing and still pressing on, let's just discuss it nicely.'
Wu listened attentively, sincerely wanting to turn a new leaf.
Yue took a few deep breaths, pointing at his double chin and said, 'Let's say, we've been together quite sometime now, how much weight have you put on? You were so lean when you're in first year of university. Now, every step you take, there will be a new pit. Every time I go out with you, it just looks like I'm walking a freaking Tibetan Mastiff.'
Wu defended, 'Didn't you say skinny men have no sense o security?'
'Yes, I did say that.' Yue threw her bag to the ground, 'But now you're too freaking secure, don't you think? You know, I almost cried because of this overly powered sense of security. Every now and then, I always dreamt of us having a third party, but I was laughing when I woke up.'1: Let's Break Up
