Chapter 22 - Untold History

"Leviathans!" John stated shockingly. "Do you know what they are, Samantha?" John asked curiously. "As I've stated before John, in all of the books in heaven, this is the only record of such a creature. It only remains as a lesson to pass down. No further details can be found in heaven's books." Samantha responded. "Doren, Ampol. Have either of you heard of leviathans before?" John asked internally. "As Samantha has stated heaven's knowledge is my knowledge as well. I don't have much more knowledge than that can be offered in heaven." Ampol explained. "Demon's don't share knowledge as heaven does, I may know someone who can give you some information. He's known as a demon sage for he doesn't participate in battles and has cut ties from the armies and civilizations. He has been around longer than I, but he doesn't welcome company." Doren explained. "That's the only lead we have right now." John responded. "How can we find this sage?" John asked. "I'm afraid that is information that no one has. As I've stated, he has cut himself off from us." Doren replied. John's head dropped in disbelief as his only lead has been limited so much.

"John, what's wrong?" Samantha asked. "Well, there's a demon that may know about leviathans, however he has cut himself off from the other demons so long ago. Doren doesn't even know where to start looking for him. All we have right now is he's known as the demon sage." John explained. "Oh, I'll return to heaven and see if I can find any information from others." Samantha responded. "Come back if you hear any detail, small or not." John replied. "I will." Samantha said as she was walking away. John quickly went outside and began conversing with the demons and angels that decided to follow him, trying to find any detail that he could. After talking with everyone available no one knew of the demon sage nor his whereabouts. "We have to be missing something." John stated internally. "Perhaps we're asking the wrong questions." Doren replied. "What do you mean?" John questioned. "Well we're asking if they know of someone who's so old that they don't even know who you mean. Maybe we should start asking about any places they had warriors vanish on them, or even maybe places they were told to stay clear of." Doren explained. "Of course. If warriors or angels have gone missing after visiting a city or village, he'd have a better chance of being there. Although, if he's cut himself off, I don't believe he'd hide in a city or village." John responded. "You may be right, he may or may not be in a city or town but he could be near one for resources and is protecting it so his resources doesn't get cut off." Doren disputed. John went back through his followers asking the different questions.

"I'm so exhausted." John explained as he returned to his bed after conversing with everyone. Most of the night has passed and the moon began dropping. "At least we got some information and it wasn't for naught." Doren said reassuringly. "We will begin making preparations to leave at first sun. Until then, I'm going to rest." John responded. After what felt like no time, John could feel the warmth of the sun on his face and knew it was time to start preparations. John made his way to a map that was made up with the information of the angels and demons. Showing every big city to every little village. Going off the information he had received the night before, he starting marking the map where the sage could be hiding. There were two cities and three villages which had a possibility but as luck would have it, they were far from each other. Almost opposite ends but this was something John had to do. He had to right the wrongs of his predecessor, the only person he knew of that shared a similar fate as him. John wrote a note of the five places he had to visit and in what order he was going to visit them. After he finished his note, he folded it and wrote Samantha's name on it. After leaving the note on the bed, he left and began telling his followers that he was going to explore a bit more and if any guests were to show up, they were to treat them as they already belonged.

John first began heading to the north-west area. It was between a human village and a demon city, it was going to be at least a week and a half trip. John was prepared to find the sage but was more prepared to find nothing. "It feels like we're hunting down someone who doesn't exist." John stated internally. "We pretty much are." Doren responded. "I have lived for a very long time and it was by chance that I heard of this demon sage. I'm not even sure he does exist, but if we're looking for something that doesn't exist anymore then it seems right we should look for someone who doesn't exist anymore." Doren stated. John began passing through forests and plains, he could feel the weather becoming colder, the wind began stinging his skin when it blew. The trees were dancing in the winds and John knew that this journey was going to take longer than he expected. John would have to stop earlier to gather wood and food. A week has passed and John was standing before a human village. As John entered, he could feel the gazes of the locals. John quickly introduced himself to everyone he came passed and explained that he was on a journey to map the land. Everyone was still weary of him but began welcoming him and was soon offered lodging and food. After staying in the village for a few days, he learned there was no one strange in the area. John parted from the village heading to the demon city. The ground quickly became white with snow and water was ice. After three days of traveling, he found a single house in the middle of the forest. Smoke was flowing out of the chimney, so he knew it was occupied. John approached the door and knocked. After waiting for a few seconds, he heard the door creak open. As the door opened there was a middle aged man, that looked human. "Who are you?" the man snarled. "Sorry to disturb you..." John started. "What do you want!?" the man snapped. "I'm looking for someone." John replied quickly. "There's no one here but me!" the man snarled. "This man feels odd." Doren said. "How so?" John asked. "There's an aura around him but it doesn't feel demonic nor angelic." Doren replied. "Could I ask you your name?" John asked. "Just leave!" the man hissed. "You could be who I'm looking for." John begged. "I just want to talk and find out." John continued. "I haven't had any problems in a long time." the man responded. "I need to know about leviathans!" John yelled. The man's face lost all emotion, "that's a name I haven't heard in ages." the man managed to get out. "Are you the one known as the demon sage?" John questioned. "Ahahahaha!" the man laughed. "No, that would be my father." the man stated. "Come in and we'll talk." the man continued. John stepped through the door as the man motioned to a chair at the table. "My name is Sorbec. How do you know of my father, and what are you?" he asked. "To put it simply, my soul is fused with an angel and a demon. The demon known as Doren and the Angel known as Ampol are me. Doren was the one who told me of the sage, not knowing if he even exists." John explained. "Fused your souls? Now that's a story I need to hear." said Sorbec. Sorbec brought a cup of dark liquid and set it in front of John at the table. John began explaining his adventures and how his soul was fused with both a demon and an angel. "Incredible." Sorbec muttered. "Why do you want to know of leviathans?" he asked. "I met with someone who was like me. He shared a body with a leviathan but didn't attempt to contact it and shut it out completely." John explained. "That man was wise. Leviathan's aren't social creatures, in fact they're very territorial." Sorbec explained. "Please, tell me everything you know about them." John pleaded. "It's not much, I'm afraid. What I do know is that they're extinct, and they were extremely powerful. My father had a saying, "If you meet with a demon or angel, you can run or fight but if you meet with a leviathan, say your last words quickly. The demons and angels decided to have a battle just a little too close to one of their dens and it wiped out the entire battlefield on its own. A single leviathan took down two armies of opposite powers. Truly a terrifying creature." Sorbec explained. "They were already few and far in between before we started moving around. I believe they just simply died out because there was no force strong enough to wipe them out. They were the apex predators and they weren't to be trifled with." Sorbec continued. "The last thing I know about them is there's an abandoned den just west of here. Even though it's completely abandoned, no one will venture near it just in case it wasn't abandoned." Sorbec continued. "Can your father tell me more?" John asked. "I'm sure he could." Sorbec answered. "I'm not even sure he's around anymore, I haven't heard from nor seen him for around a thousand years." Sorbec explained. "Last I knew he was studying humans and how they developed and evolved." Sorbec continued. John's head dropped as his lead was getting more and more impossible. "I can tell you however that he was living in the south. Almost directly south of here." Sorbec explained. "Thank you, Sorbec. You have been helpful but i need to know more about these creatures." John said thankfully. "What's so important about a terrifying creature that no longer exists?" Sorbec questioned. "Right now, I'm trying to find a way to peacefully co-exist with humans, angels and demons. If there's even a slightest chance that any leviathans exists, we will work with them too." John explained. "Co-existing with leviathans is something I never thought I would hear." Sorbec said. "Stay the night and you can set out in the morning. Would like to know more about you in case there's a leviathan left alive." Sorbec said laughing. "Thank you." John replied.
