I sat around looking through all my skills wondering what all this meant as I waited I day dreamed about magic finally finding something so interesting. That's when I thought to myself. Window... It became my companion when I obtained the Ui Companion title... Does that mean Window is a living creature? As I thought that a ringing could be heard once more. I sat with a sense of nostalgia for a moment before remembering it'll get super loud if I don't actually check it. I looked behind me to window and began to read the alert.

Title: Companion of the Traveler*
Wait... It's name is window? That's sad... I... Should give it a name. I look to it to try to figure out if it's ok with that seeing as it seems to be capable of reading my mind. It bounced up and down but no alert came up so I assumed it meant it was ok with it. Well window doesn't really hold a gender. I'd have to make it neither male nor female. After hours of thinking. A name rung in my head almost as if it was from the taunting bastard. Over and over it called. I had no choice... Alex it is. As I thought that a ring could be heard. I turned and saw Alex's status once more and it's name had been accepted. Now... Companion of the traveler? Wait... is that me? I'ma traveler? Where did I come from? Where am I going? No ringing... I guess not a question Alex can answer... What ever... At least I know my only friend isn't just a mindless box...
After dealing with all that mess I remembered the book. I returned to deciphering the text bit by bit. I can't understand the language but I think I'm beginning to at least understand a few words. It would seem the seed I had chosen is written about in this book that was written for humans who explore as there profession. I am what's called a Metaplant... I can be anything based on skills and what I do so I guess protecting those humans changed my species... That would explain why I am called a young guardian tree now. Sadly... I'm still not exactly a tree... More of a bush... I have a massive constantly growing net of roots but the part of me above the ground was only about knee high on those humans before... Does that mean I'm going to turn into a tree soon? Shouldn't most trees have the same amount of roots beneath the soil as they do leaves and branches above? If I become a tree I won't be able to fit in this cave... As I thought I felt pain from one of my roots. I transferred my view to the point I felt the pain... I had grown so much it took a minute to get all the way there. The pain is still happening... What's going on over there?
As I arrived I found an army of hundreds of rats attacking my roots. The rats were up to the waist on the humans on all fours. No wonder these things were taking down those dogs. They are straight up monsters. My roots were all springing out of the ground around the rats as they attacked one after another I watched rats die over and over. As they continuously rushed towards me trying to bite my roots but as they gnawed on me there bodies were crushed and torn apart by my roots. They didn't seem to have much of a chance at winning. That's when a sudden light exploded forth from behind the army of rats going slightly over them as it flew towards me. It struck my roots burning everything above the ground instantly forcing my view back. It hurt... What the hell was that... I forced my roots in that area to go deeper into the ground as not to pick more fights then I needed to when I cannot beat the target. I've died to many times as it is. That's when I heard the oh so familiar sound of the ring. I looked to Alex as the window showed me an alert. Inherent skill [Light] Has reached level 100 and skill [soul] and [evolve] are now able to change it to Inherent skill [Bright Light]. As those words were read the entire cave that I inhabit suddenly went from what seemed to be a dim light that partially illuminated the room to a bright inescapable light that expanded throughout the entire cavern. Every place my roots had reached suddenly became illuminated. As the alert faded I saw my status.

Wow... My level really doesn't go up that fast as a plant... But it calls it Rapid Growth still... What does that mean? Wait... I lost a few statuses as well. And my magical depletion became minor... That's good I guess since I'm constantly using light it uses a lot of energy... Wait... I just gained Photosynthesis and the ability to take nutrient from the soil? I... Wasn't already doing that? What the hell kind of plant am I? How have I survived this long? Is that why both those regeneration have increased so much? Does that explain Self Reliant? Was I eating myself and regenerating? That's insane...
