Dinner had been brutal the previous night between Bailey Harper and David Snyman. David was too nervous to say anything to her, and she felt like anything she said would be too awkward. Every conversation they tried having turned out to be awkward and nothing could salvage it. Bailey turned out to bed early to avoid the awkward atmosphere. She really didn't want to hurt David but she couldn't simply fall into a relationship with him especially after all that she has been through, even more, she didn't even have her memories back.
The redness of the sky turned brighter and brighter as the sun graced the sky, but still, Bailey didn't come out of bed. She was too scared of bumping into David, she slept long enough to ensure that he'd already be out of the house by the time she wakes up.
She kept replaying the last six months of her life over and over again on the screen of the ceiling as she lay on her back. That's all the memories she had in her head and the snippet of the lady who jabbed her with a syringe from her moment of memory the previous day. She replayed that scene a million times and each time she felt like she would remember who she was, the thought would just slip away like a slippery slide. It was frustrating and she thought she'd burst a vein because it felt so close yet so far.
By the time she came out of the bedroom it was already noon. She was already tired from all that over-thinking, even hunger eluded her. She groaned as she did her chores for the day. It was easy for her since the house was too small. She was done before three and she started preparing for dinner. Before she could put the pots on the stove she heard the village bell. The village bell rang to call people to come to the center of the village for emergency meetings.
Village meetings where how the village fixed societal issues, emergency meetings where for thefts or deaths or any other unexpected emergency situations. Bailey sighed as she wore her shoes, who knows what the meeting is about now. She hoped it wasn't death as life was fragile for her right now, her hope was starting to dwindle.
Lost in her thoughts as she walked to the village center, she was jolted into reality when she heard David screaming for her. "Sweetness!!!" She looked up and before she could react, a screeching sound could be heard over the gravel road and she felt her body floating through the sky. And everything went silent.
The truck pulled to a stop a few meters away.
"Sweetness, Sweets" David frantically ran to Bailey, scared out of his wits. "Sweets, please please wake up" he didn't know where or how to touch her afraid that he will extend the damage. He was sweating out of all his pores. He felt the heat on his face increase she was unconscious and looked like she wasn't breathing.
The pale faced lady that was driving the truck finally came out of her truck after her initial shock, before she could say anything David was already berating her with insults, "How the f*ck do you drive?! Couldn't you drive slower?" he roared at her.
However when the lady saw Bailey's face it was like time stopped and all that existed in the world was Bailey. Light faded, even David's shouting faded into the background. She couldn't say or do anything, she was too shocked to say or do anything.
After a while she breathed out "Bailey Harper?"
