Chapter 32 - Changes (1)

Another day begun to the somewhat dull and repetitive life of Sharmaine Mendoza. Nowadays, she was just filled with confusion, making the office seem tedious. Her passion was long gone until she analyzed a piece of paper from a file that contained very promising information.

Carrie Lim was a thirty-year-old woman who served as the Suarez's assistant secretary until she was finally accused of embezzlement of funds from the company, which contributed to the sudden bankruptcy.

Sharmaine stared a at her picture, carefully studying her features. Carrie had a long round face with a bob haircut and almond eyes. She also had a fair skin and light freckles all over her cheeks. Sharmaine grunted and laid the paper down, thinking if it would be a good idea to still continue doing this mission when suddenly, Denzel walked in the office with a very serious face.

"Prepare the car right now," he commanded with a strong voice.

Sharmaine wanted to ask 'why?' but she knew better than piss him off, so she reached for her phone and dialed the driver.

"Hello, can you meet us at the entrance of the office? Yes? Great! Drive safe." She ended that call and told Denzel that it'll take less than an hour for the driver to come.

"Just make sure he'll arrive before 3 PM." He sat on his desk and analyzed, yet again, more of his paperwork.

Frankly, there was nothing to do, and most of her work was done in advance, so she took the time to examine Denzel. He lost weight, which caused his work to pile up because of the lack of focus. She wondered what he had been doing the entire week she was gone.

She marched down the stairs this time instead of taking the elevator as she needed exercise after that gruesome week. Some parts of her body still ached but it felt better when she moved. She reached the ground floor within five minutes, and started to pace the big hall to get to the cafeteria.

"Hello? Ah, I want three sandwiches, two cups of coffee and a yogurt please."

"That will be $12.41."

She reached into her pocket and grabbed a few bills, giving it to the cashier after. A few minutes passed by and she finally received a brown paper bag and decided to after taking the elevator because who would want to climb up the stairs to the twenty-fifth floor?

"Here. Eat." She plopped down the paper bag on top of Denzel's desk, but he shook his head and refused the offer.

Sharmaine sighed. "Come on, I finally bought you the two sandwiches that I promised. You should eat, speaking of, have you been eating well for the past week?" She sounded like a nagging mother, or maybe a very noisy older sister.

"I'll eat later after we meet the person."

For some reason, it struck Sharmaine's curious mind. "Who are we meeting?"

"The CEO of Private Dawn Corporation."
