"Was there something you wanted De'rax?"
He shook his head snapping out of his thoughts
"Yes I wanted to see if you had enough trust and felt comfortable enough to sleep in my room tonight?"
I raised a wolfy brow or tried to. I laughed internally at my own thought. "Is the big and scary Lord General De'rax scared of the dark?"
He cleared his throat. "No. I was trying to be cautious. With what happened today and Re'ats threat. I thought it would be easier on both of us if we slept in the same room. I have this gut feeling that he will try to retaliate the only way he knows how. By trying to kill me and take you."
"Me? Why would he want me? I am the one that bit him and I know he hasn't forgotten that."
"Oh he hasn't trust me. However, he is now even more intrigued by you since he knows you are female and aggressive."
"I take it he enjoys aggressive women?"
"Yes but more so to break them. The longer it takes to break you the more fun he has. He's sadistic in that way. So what do you say?"
"I guess I don't have any other choice."
"Oh no you always have a choice. There is just always a better one." He smiles and heads toward his room. I tell Caylee our conversation and she nods whispering good night she leaves.
I sigh. Following into his room he is already climbing into bed. I freeze. I have no idea if he sleeps nude but I am so not going to ask.
He pats the bed and I hop up next to him. He lays down and before I know it we are both sound asleep.
I jolt awake. I heard a noise that was not right. I open my eyes and without moving my head I scan the room.
There by the curtain. A figure is silently moving. Not as silent as they think since I heard their feet brushing the floor.
Hmm guess De'rax was right about the little ego wanting revenge. I don't want to move and alert the intruder that I'm awake so I try to wake De'rax another way.
"DE'RAX! WAKE UP! DE'RAX! There is an intruder in the room. Wait. Don't move. He doesn't know we are awake. I want to see what he is going to try."
"Are you crazy? He wants to kill me. That's what he wants."
"You don't know that for sure. Maybe he just wants to kill me or steal me."
I hear him sigh and I have to force back my laughter. We watch and wait as the figure moves closer to the bed. I see silver shine at his side. He has a dagger. With De'rax eyes closed I wait to give him the signal to move. Closer to the bed the figure raises the dagger.
"Roll!"
De'rax rolls and I jump. Throwing myself into the figure. I feel a flash of pain as the dagger hits my leg. But I barely notice as De'rax turns on the lights.
I look down to see the face I have pinned. It's Ki'o, one of the trio. I guess it's fitting since his friend is hurt.
"Ki'o. Why do you insist on following that good for nothing around? You could do so much better with friends."
"You owe him a debt for hurting him. He demands the Wolf be his. I was going to kill you for him as a bonus."
He starts struggling underneath me trying to get away. "Get this wolf off me."
"No I don't think I will. She seems to be comfortable right where she is. Besides she doesn't listen to me very well. But why should I help you? You just said you were here to kill me."
"I am. But it looks like I haven't succeeded."
He sighs and stops struggling. "I don't know what else to do. Re'at is holding my sister hostage at his house in Sen'ta. He threatened to take her life if I don't bring him the Wolf."
"See now I thought you were friends with him?"
"Ha no. I don't want to be anything with him. I just want my sister back. She is all I have left. I promised our parents I would take care of her. A poor brother I am."
"If I.." I growl. "I mean. If we help you get your sister back what will you do for us?"
"I will be in your debt. If you ever need something I will help you to the best of my abilities."
"Then we will help you. Tonight I need you to sneak back home. If asked by Re'at why you didnt kill me just tell him that I had to many guards and you got caught. That you will try again tomorrow night. Placate him as much as you can while I take tomorrow to find out more on your sister. "
" Yes okay. I will try."
I step off of him and he dashes for the balcony. Jumping down and running off across the garden.
" How much do you think we can trust him? "
He looks at me a moment. He grins real big.
" About as far as I can throw him."
