I awoke slowly. Yawning and stretching. I bumped into something with my paw as I stretched. I opened my eyes to see that my head had been laying on De'rax chest.
"Good morning."
I blinked. Turning my head to see De'rax wide awake and laughing at me.
"Whats so damn funny this early?" I snapped.
"I have been nudging you off of me for about five minutes and all you did was growl at me."
"Oh. Sorry." I moved off of him so he could sit up.
He continued to laugh as he sat up then looked at me. "It's okay. It weirdly felt comfortable with you laying on me like that. Never thought I would say that to a wolf."
My eyebrow raised. I snorted. "Never thought I would hear it from a agrithian. Let alone you or any male."
"Why any male?"
I sighed. "My aunt thought I was a lost cause. I started to agree with her. That I would forever be alone. Well I had my cousin but once she found someone it would have been just me. I was never one to make friends let alone meet someone."
"Hmm I think I know the feeling. My mother always looked beside me or around me when I came home. Expecting to see someone beside me. She really wants trichas."
"Tr ich a?
"Tri cha. It's the agrithian word for... Hmm let tlme think." He snaps his fingers, very human thing to do. But interesting when he does it. "I got it...grand babies."
I nodded that he was correct. "Your siblings don't have any children either?"
"No. I am the oldest. So my mother expects me to settle first. But that's just it. She wants me to SETTLE. She wants me to pick a mate from her list of women. I can't do that."
"Sounds like my aunt. But because of what I am it wasn't easy for my aunt. But why can't you?"
"I answer your question then you answer mine. Deal?"
I think about that. I guess it's sort of like twenty questions. "Deal."
De'rax smiles big like a kid who just won a prize. I had to hold in my laughter.
"Okay. I want a mate I have a connection to. One that I feel for."
"I get that one. Not many would care about that. Now as for me. I will explain a little first so you understand what I mean. Dire wolf's are the biggest wolf around. We are rare even on earth. But each Dire wolf is an alpha or a beta. Both are dominant just one more than the other. Male alphas can mate with a beta female or an alpha female. Alpha females however cannot mate with a beta male."
"Why is that?"
"Because the females are to dominant and it can cause a break in the male beta. It has been done before and was found it didn't work. Okay. So I am considered an alpha female. Stonger than any so far before me. Because if this I have not found a male that can beat me or even compete with me."
"Are you saying that in order for you to be with a male he has to hit you?"
I laughed at his face. "No no. He has to be able to either keep up with me or be beside me."
"Like a test if wills?"
"Yes. That's it. A test of wills to see whose is stronger. Because if that I have yet to find one who could even keep up. Let alone win against me."
"Hmm doesn't sound much more complicated than my reason."
He laughs and we both smile at the joke. "Well if we are going to go to this meeting we better get moving."
De'rax nods. Yes this is going to be a long trip. I plan on taking our new guards with us. However they will not be able to go into the meeting with us."
" Why? "
" One the Gribnopk won't allow that many men on their planet. Two there won't be enough room."
I got it." Well I guess they will have to stay on the ship. Not sure how well that is going to work out but we have no choice. "
He shook his head." No no choice at all. Let's get moving I will discuss what is to happen on our trip there."
