James was born into a wealthy family for his father was a world renounced CEO and his mother was known for her beauty. From the day that he was born, both parents had different views about him. His mother wanted nothing more than for her precious baby boy to be happy, but all his father saw was someone who would take over the company in his stead.
His mother Scarlett was always warm towards him and loved him with all her heart. Though his father never paid any attention to him. When James turned seven, he helped his mother bake cupcakes and decided to give one to his father who would always be working in his study.
He held the cupcake gently in his hand and walked over to his father's study with a smile on his face. He quietly walked into the room and said, "Father, I helped mother bake earlier, would you like a cupcake?"
He held it up and offered it to his father, but all his father did was click his tongue and said coldly, "I don't want your cupcake, you need to spend more time studying than troubling yourself with such trivial matters."
James frowned, "But I made this for you father."
His father grew annoyed and slapped the cupcake out of his hand and onto the floor. He yelled, "I said I don't want it! Now leave."
James was scared and couldn't say anything. He dropped his head and left the room. After that day, the rift between father and son, greatly widened and James despised his father.
One night when James was thirteen, he went to go down to the kitchen to get a glass of water. But what he found made him hate his father even more.
His mother and. father were yelling and screaming in the kitchen.
"John you bastard! You've had affair with another woman this whole time! We even have a child!" she screamed.
His father said sarcastically and mockingly, "Oh why do you care? You're still my wife so why does it matter?" He poured wine in his cup and took a sip.
She ran over and slapped the cup out of his hand and onto the floor, "You always run away from your problems. That's why you're choosing to get drunk instead of reasoning."
He yelled and grabbed her hair, "You bitch! I'm sick and tired of your shit!" He threw her onto the floor and took out the gun he had hidden in the drawer. He aimed it directly at her chest.
She laughed, "Go on shoot me! It won't change the fact that you're a good for nothing piece of shit and a terrible man! One day, you will get what you deserve, after all, karma's a bitch."
When she finished, he pulled the trigger and she laid dead on the floor, with her angered smile still on her face.
James was shocked and scared. His eyes still wide and fixed on her bleeding body. He turned and quietly went back to his room in a daze, with his eyes seemingly glazed over. He sat down on his bed and laughed bitterly, "Just five more years, five years until I can take over the company."
The death of his mother was strategically covered up by his father and only about six months later, the woman that his father was having an affair with, became his wife. James truly despised the two.
Once he turned sixteen, a grand party was held for James. Many people came. They were all powerful businessmen from all around the world who had showed up with their wives and daughters. It was tasteless to James, for he hated every single one of those girls who tried to get his favor.
"You are so cool James," a young girl who looked about his age said, "in two years, you'll be able to take over the company."
'Lies'
"Yes, he's so intelligent and handsome," another said with flirtatious eyes.
'Lies'
"J-James, I really like you," a girl said putting on an innocent facade.
'All of you are liers!' he swore in his heart.
He politely excused himself from them and made his way to his room. James had always loved reading books and would often emerse himself in the stories. He would spend hours upon hours just reading and would always be buying more and more books.
He walked to his room and grabbed a book off his shelf. He took off his shoes and sat down on his bed. He wanted to avoid the people at the party as much as possible since he couldn't take all the deception.
Once the party was done everyone had left and his father was angry. He walked to his sons room and yelled, "Why did you abandon the guests!? This was the perfect opportunity for you to gain connections and get a higher social status!"
James closed his eyes and book in annoyance. He stood up and chuckled, "By that do you mean for me to gain a wife?"
His father grumbled then the room became silent except for the sound of his father slapping James. He hit him hard out of rage. It caused James to stumble back and glare at his father while holding his check.
His fathered clicked his tongue, "I will not have my son be disrespectful to me. Neither will I allow him to disgrace this family."
His father then turned on his heel and left, leaving James alone in his room once again. Once the door shut, James laughed, "Two years, just two years."
His new mother tried to become closer with James, but he never let her. No matter how hard she tried, how loving she was, or how many gifts she gave him, it only seemed to anger him. Every time he saw a new gift or saw her trying to be motherly, he would only sneer and ignore her.
On James' eighteenth birthday, he was finally named the new CEO and head of the company. He had finally reached the top and his only goal was to be the best. Better than everyone else, especially his father.
The next day, his father and stepmother decided to go on a vacation, however on their way there, their jet had malfunctioned and crashed in the mountains. Not long after a big funeral was held for the two with many people. The same ones who had attended his party before hand. Some looked sad for the loss while others looked secretly happy since the old man was finally dead.
James stood in front of his father's grave. He smiled and said under his breath, "Like mother said. Karma's a bitch."
Since the death of his father, many other businessmen thought that the company would have a major downfall and that would be their chance to be rid of them forever. They all thought that the company wouldn't be able to function under James' leadership since he was still very young. Though the death impacted the company a lot, it quickly recovered.
With James' help, the company had risen to even bigger heights than before.
Later on, he meet Stephanie Amber. She was already an employee there, but something about her intrigued James. She was straightforward and never lied to anyone, so he thought that she would be perfect.
The two were rumored to be a couple, but that was farthest from the truth. James had no interest in being in that sort of relationship and neither did she. James would include her in his decisions for the company and she would help him since she wasn't biased. The two made a good team and the profits of the company grew even more.
They owned many pieces of land, hotels, restaurants, and much more.
Though James wanted something else. He wanted an assistant he could trust and who would help him with his work since Stephanie couldn't be there all the time. So the two made the application and interviewed many people.
James didn't like any of them and they were losing hope. Until Leo showed up. The boys timid and honest eyes intrigued James. 'He seems honest,' he said to himself.
James' cold and indifferent eyes shifted a bit when he saw Leo. It surprised Stephanie since she hadn't seen him look that was to any other applicants or employees. She knew, 'He's the one.'
And Leo was hired.
