Samar and Olivia returned to Charlottetown before the funeral ceremony. Olivia was extremely depressed ever since she returned from Toronto. Aiden couldn't bear to see her like that anymore. At lunchtime, he approached her locker where she was arranging her textbooks and asked, "Hey Olivia, are you okay? You seem glum these days." Olivia smiled weakly and replied, "I lost someone who was extremely precious to me. Well, I'm glad that his soul is in peace." Aiden spoke out while holding Olivia's hand, "Hey. Wherever he might be, he is keeping an eye on you. Your anger, your depression everything. Maybe, he is grieving with you. Unfortunately, you cannot wipe his tears. But by being optimistic and confident, you can stop him from lamenting." Olivia's eyes overflowed with tears. Aiden pulled her into an embrace and assured her that everything would eventually be okay. Sarah was walking in the hallway, and she saw Aiden and Olivia embracing near Olivia's locker. Sarah's eyes filled with rage, and she stormed off there without a word. She misunderstood, and she had no idea what happened when Olivia was in Toronto, and she never interrogated.
Aiden pulled away and stated, "If you want to talk about it, I'm right here. You're my sister, and I've always wanted a sibling like you." As Aiden turned away to take his leave, Olivia grabbed his hand and asked, "Can we meet up tomorrow at lunch?" Aiden nodded as a sign of approval.
The next day, when Aiden was waiting for Olivia at her locker, suddenly, Mavis and Pauline showed up. They eyed him like how a person does when he or she is trying to investigate somebody. Mavis stated sarcastically, "AHA! Great! Just great! I didn't think that this could get any better, and then it did!" Aiden glared at them and said, "You guys have no idea what you're talking about!" Pauline steps forward and asks with attitude, "Oh really? Okay, then tell us, what are you doing at Olivia's locker?" Aiden was silent for a moment, then he finally spoke, "That's none of your business! And besides, when was the last time you talked to her and asked her about her recent behavior?" Mavis and Pauline sighed with defeat and left the hallway. Olivia arrived a few minutes later, and both of them went to the school field to talk. After they arrive at the track, Aiden blurted out, "You know I noticed your behavior a few weeks before the march break. But I believed that I should respect your privacy." Olivia replied, "Thanks, Aiden if you would ask me at that time, I would explode." Aiden smirked and asked, "What happened to you? Where did you go?" Olivia began narrating her story.
*FLASHBACK (OLIVIA'S POV)*
It all started when grade 5 was coming to an end. In February, Ms. Laveena switched seats of all students in the class. My designated position was next to Yash Kapoor, the most ingenious scholar of our standard. Both of us and two other boys represented the class in the inter-class social quiz and, we won third place. We had a remarkable opportunity of getting the first place if he hadn't disparaged my aptitude. However, we never talked much until our seating arrangement changed. I didn't know the feeling of liking somebody. I was too naive to think so until I got to know him. Slowly, both of us started conversing pretty much all the time, and we hit it off. I started liking him because of his intelligence and personality. He couldn't bear to see anyone being depressed. He always knew how to cheer me up. That feeling only grew stronger with time. It was my first crush! I couldn't believe it! When I'm depressed, all I had to do was think about him, and it puts me in a good mood. Later, when we became close, he admitted to me that he had a crush on somebody. My heart sank when I heard this. I had nothing to say, but I composed myself and wished him good luck. Then the year concluded with that incident. At the sixth-grade book sale, all students had to come with their parents to buy books. He was there with his father. I tried to hide, but, he caught my eye. He was delighted to see me. His father and my mother were office colleagues, so they started talking about their business matters when they met. I didn't get the academic award for grade five as I was misguided by my tuition teacher. Yash placed his hand on my shoulder and said sarcastically, "Oh! Olivia! I am extremely sorry that you couldn't get the academic award. You must know that this prestigious award is only for intelligent students, not for the common ones like you." I pushed his hand away and said with a confident grin, "You might be smiling right now, but mark my words, there will come a day when I will overtake you, and I will be in your position. I will eat you up and spit you out. Just sit and watch you, pretty boy." He stared at me with wonder as I walked away. That's the moment I knew that he was starting to like me. After fifth grade, I won the prestigious academic merit award every year. I realized that I made him eat his words. But I didn't know that it impressed him at that time.
When seventh grade rolled around the corner, Yash had a girlfriend named Akira. She was the same girl who he was crushing on in fifth-grade. I still didn't get over him and, he continued to like me. One day, Yash asked me to meet him at the school library alone. As I entered, he turned around and smiled at me. I stepped closer to him, and I asked him the reason for calling me there. He took a deep breath and responded, "Olivia, I am aware that you know how I feel about you. I like you a lot. Maybe in the way that you are hoping, but we can't be together. I have a girlfriend now, and she is the most important person in my life. You come, second." My face turned red with anger and depression, but I composed myself and replied, "When did I say that I like you? Did I confess? No. Then why are you telling me all this? Listen, young man; I don't care about you or what you do. You are my rival, and it will always remain that way!" I stormed out of the library, and we never spoke again until he died because of cancer recently. No matter how much I try, I could never hate him. That incident changed the way how I was. I became more restless, bossy, and rebellious. I had no friends at that time until Samar walked into my life in eighth grade. He was my first real boyfriend. He saw that girl who I was back then. He always saw the best person in me and brought her back. I couldn't thank him enough for what he did. But I broke his heart by migrating to Canada without telling him. I didn't have the guts to do it. But by God's grace, a few months ago, he migrated too. At first, he was remarkably exasperated at me, but then he forgave me with time. I love him. I always did, and I could never stop. He's the one who told me that Yash had cancer and took me to Toronto to see him. He's the best boyfriend I could ever have.
*FLASHBACK (OLIVIA"S POV) ENDS*
Aiden's eyes widened, and he said, "Oh My God! I had no idea! I didn't know that even you were a part of a love triangle before." Olivia gave a weak smile and replied, "Yeah, so that's my life. Thank you so much, Aiden! I am lucky to have you in my life. You're always concerned about me. My friends couldn't do what you did today." Aiden gave Olivia a side hug and reminded her that he would always be there for her. Within a few minutes, the class bell rang, and both of them headed back to their regular classes.
