Chapter 21 - Chapter 16.2: The Dates

Mavis was pacing up and down until Sarah and Pauline arrived. She cut right to the chase and said, "We all know that Olivia has been glum lately. So we need to detect the reason for that. We are also aware that from the past week, Olivia hasn't been eating her lunch with us. So this means that she goes off the school grounds and meets up with someone else." Sarah raised her hand with uncertainty and stammered, "I-- Umm.. have plans today." Mavis raised an eyebrow and asked, "With who? Aiden?" Sarah scoffed, "Oh, please! He prefers to spend his time with Olivia and his guy friends these days. Also, he didn't apologize for his behavior during that project fiasco.! I have plans with Vincent." Mavis and Pauline gasped and asked in high tones, "Vincent?" Mavis claimed with anger, "Oh! So you're with Vincent now?!" Pauline mumbled in hushed tones, "Oh, boy! I knew that this wasn't good!" Sarah gave Pauline a questioning look and reacted, "Excuse me?!" Pauline pretended that she didn't say anything. After a long moment of awkward silence, Mavis commanded, "Okay! Then Pauline and I will go and give you the required information once we get back."

At Lunchtime, Olivia arranged her textbooks in the locker, grabbed her lunch, and rushed out of the school premises. Mavis and Pauline were following her, wherever she went. After a few moments, she arrived at the Queen Charlotte field and observed that Samar was already there, expecting her. The two spies hid behind the enormous pile of snow that was alongside the benches on which Samar was sitting. He smiled and walked towards Olivia as he saw her. Both of them indulged in a warm embrace and then sat down to eat their lunches. He asked, "So, did you get permission from your parents about coming with me to Toronto?" Mavis asked in hushed tones, "Toronto?" Pauline shushed Mavis to endure quietly.

Olivia responded with her head hanging, "Yes, I did. They gave me their consent." He asked, "Did you tell them that Yash has cancer?" Olivia nodded. Pauline let out a huge gasp. Mavis covered her mouth before Olivia and Samar heard them.

He noticed that she was depressed, so he extended his hand and proposed Olivia to dance with him to lighten the condition. Olivia gave him a questioning glance and asked, "Are you serious? You mean, right here?" Samar beamed and said, "Why not? There's no one in the field, and I didn't get my stereo for nothing." Olivia took his hand and started slow dancing on a romantic Hindi song played by the stereo. They gracefully moved along with the soothing beats of the song. He very well knew that Olivia always enjoyed the fresh air, which would always calm her nerves. After the song ended, Olivia was grinning at Samar, and she said, "Thank you! You always know how to cheer me up." Samar smiled back and pulled her closer. She didn't pull back nor showed any signs of nervousness. The warm sunny day and the fresh wind blowing alongside, it just seemed right. Slowly, Olivia pressed her lips on his. They kissed! For the first time! Mavis and Pauline observed everything and stared at them with their eyes widened. Mavis whispered to Pauline, "I can't believe that Olivia hid this from us! Let's head back and tell Sarah what happened."

*IN THE MEANWHILE*

After Mavis and Pauline left the school premises, Sarah approached Vincent, who was at his locker arranging his books. He smiled at her and said, "I'm glad you showed up! I have a surprise planned for you." Vincent took Sarah's hand, and both of them flee from the school ground. There was a sophisticated carriage waiting at the school gate. Sarah spellbound at the mere sight of the carriage. Vincent extended his hand and asked, "Shall we?" Sarah composed herself and replied, "I thought you'd never ask." Both of them took off from Spring park street and arrived at a fancy restaurant named Water's edge at Delta Marriott. Sarah was wildly impressed with what Vincent organized. As they ordered their meals, Sarah had numerous questions to ask him. Vincent wanted to know her thoughts about the place. Sarah said, "It's a captivating hotel! Where did you get the money for all this? Vincent replied, "My father is one of the wealthiest men in the country, so usually we eat at restaurants like this." Sarah's eyes widened and said, "Consider me, impressed!" Both of them started conversing with each other and enjoyed their luxurious treat.

They returned to school ten minutes before the bell. Sarah asked, "Do you treat other girls like this?" Vincent replied confidently, "I never felt this way about anyone, so no." Sarah gave him a questioning look and asked nervously, "What are you saying?" Vincent placed his hands on Sarah's shoulders and began in solemn tones, "Sarah, I like you. I mean, more than I should. You're the most amazing girl I have ever met. You make me a better person, and you make me happy. I like being around you more than anyone else." Sarah's eyes filled up with tears, as she remembered Aiden's big ask to the middle school dance. Vincent asked, "Are you okay? Is it too much?" Sarah wiped her tears off and replied, "No. But I would appreciate it if you could give me some time to think about this." Vincent smiled and said, "I'm glad that you are open to this. Take all the time you need. See you around." Sarah's mind was racing with complicated feelings as she saw Vincent walk away.
