Chapter 2 - A step outside of comfort, chance meeting

I woke up at 11:20 am, the first thought that came to my mind was "Working at the halfway gas station?" no fucking way, that place was in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by nothing but ocean and dried grass, no kid in Longshore would ever even think about working there, even if offered 20 dollars an hour. Like everything in Longshore, the halfway gas station had a few rumors about it.

Some claimed it's the place where drug dealings between major groups happened, others claimed it was haunted by the spirits of those who… well I haven't really heard the ending of this rumor but I'm assuming it also has something to do with the mysterious and ever so elusive drug dealers.

The Gleeway family built it on the road between the city and Longshore, hoping to profit off the rich people who vacationed here by selling them overpriced gas and other touristy things people like.

I have no clue what I'm going to do today, this place is so small, all there is to do is surf or skateboard, and its not like I could tempt the rage of my mother and ask for the controller for my PlayStation, I already know how that would go.

"What should I do with my one week left of freedom, before I become a working man" I thought somewhat annoyed, by the sudden feeling of a lack of time. I could skate or draw but seriously that doesn't interest me much, today I wanted to adventure, the idea dinged on me and I remembered the cabin my family built deep in the forest. One of my dad's "great ideas", I haven't been up to the cabin in a while. It used to be my favorite hangout spot, a place away from everyone, though it was run down now and the path up there was probably dingy. The path was littered with so many twist and turns through the woods, anyone who didn't know the path would be lost.

"Alright it's a plan!" I thought strangely excited, I could even bring the [Beginners guide to core creation] up there and learn more about whatever this "core" thing was. If its anything like [Alchemy for idiots] it should be an interesting read.

After about an hour of twisting and turning trying to get more sleep, I finally decided to get up and take a shower. While staring at myself in the mirror trying to notice any changes in my physical appearance, nope I still have very unkempt Coarse Hair as I like to call it, though most people would deem it nappy, dark brown eyes that sometimes just looked black, and with my always serious face and bags under my eyes i looked almost scary. I'm about 5'10, though my skin is acne free I also still have my trademark chubby cheeks. Yeah long story short I'm the completely average guy you see everywhere.

Since I've decided to head over to the cabin. Ill need to dress the part, the walk to the woods was about 10 mins and from the woods to the cabin was just under an hour. So other than the standard camping gear, I decided to bring a portable grill, and a pick axes if I could figure out where it was. Its not as though I planed to stay there for the night, it's really just a precaution in case the cabin is to run down to stay in, or if I need cut down some branches on the way.

I got dress in dark blue jeans and a similar colored sweater, grabbing my all black backpack, I was ready to head out. When I left my room I saw my mom eating alone at the dinner table, icing her knee, "Where are you going Alex" she said, not even looking up at me. Probably heard me rummaging through my closet. "I've decided to check out the cabin today, you know we haven't been up there in like forever. Maybe we could set a date to go back out there" I said in an excited voice, being at the cabin was some of my happiest memories, even though I was still taking the meds at that point. It was still a moment of happiness. "Alex everyone's too busy to bother with the cabin, be safe and get back before dark" she said with a sigh, obviously disappointed that i wasn't doing anything productive.

"Mom where's the pickax, there might be overgrown branches on the path to the cabin" I said, seemingly breaking out of a trance. "Its in one of those boxes in the garage, or on the wall. Oh before I forget, Andrew said he going to loan you his motorcycle, so you can get to work and back" "great" I whispered still not fully on board with working at the "halfway" gas station, I quickly darted towards the garage, the pick axes was hanging on the wall, after grabbing it I left the house.

I chose to bring my skateboard with me, choosing not to walk the ten minutes that it would take me to get to the forest. The wind is always cooler in the mornings, making the skate downhill feel like being kissed by over one thousand beautiful girls. Not that id know what being kissed felt like.. When I reached the foot of the hill, I had to skate around all the homes of the rich people. It was truly a sight to behold, house after house, each one over twice the size of mine.

Most of the skate to the forest was boring, nothing ever happens in Longshore, though I was feeling a strange energy coming from one of the houses, its pretty much something that I've always felt during this time. But I decided that "today is a day of adventure" I thought to myself I quickly crossed the street, deciding to fully dedicate myself to taking a peek at the house giving off the strange feeling. It wasn't anything big but for me it felt like peeping in on them. Nearing the house, I could suddenly feel my heart racing, I started making silly mistakes while skating, constantly skating into the grass, I wonder why as i so scared for id be just another skater kid…

when I saw her it was love at first sight, or something like that, she had long straight grayish white hair, her eyes were a light leaf green color, and even though she was wearing a skirt that flapped wildly in the wind as she swung back and forth on the swing set, I couldn't take my eyes off hers. Her skin was a pale with hints of glassy pink on her cheeks. When her eyes met mine, it felt as though I was thrust under one hundred spotlights. She stopped swinging and stared at me, the energy she gave off was similar to the lady outside of the bookstore, only because both seemed to have so much energy that it seeped outside their body, also instead of warmth, this girl gave off a silence inducing, mind numbing aura. Everything seemed to be lost, in nothingness, her aura was ghastly grey and devoid of life.

After what seemed like five minutes she took a step towards me, making no attempt to control her hair that was flowing all over the place, in all honestly if she wasn't so cute, shed look like one of those evil spirits. she had pink lipstick on, everything about it looked off on her, when she noticed me paying attention to her lips, she blushed and quickly tried to wipe the lip stick off, all she accomplished was smearing it all over her face, I wanted say something to her, ask her out or at least introduce myself, but I freaked out and took off, not running but walking very fast, by the time I stopped walking very fast I was at the foot of the forest. My heart still pounding in my chest. "Damn I wonder what her name is?" I said softly to myself.
