Quint, Shay, and Lucas began their training. They each picked up a boulder and traveled one lap around the island, like the day before. Next, they dropped their boulders and ran fifty laps around the island. The three finished their fifty laps slower than the previous day. Their bodies had not recouped yet and they felt it in a major way. Every step was followed by complete agony. Waves of pain traversed through their bodies with every movement, but neither complained, they endured.
They approached Mary excitedly to learn more about their powers. " Tell us about our powers! " said Lucas with excitement and jumping up and down. "Show me a demonstration, Lucas. Then I can analyze your power," explained Mary.
Lucas put his hands on the ground and poured his spirit energy into the earth. The ground changed into spikes. He then stomped the ground and caused the spikes to rise out of the ground and sent them over the water.
Mary noticed observed the ground while Lucas stood their proudly, happy to show off his powers. Mary saw plants on the ground where Lucas put his spirit energy. "Interesting...," thought Mary. Lucas walked over and said "Soooo...."
"See if you can create stone. So far you can manipulate and change the form stones," explained Mary. Lucas gathered his energy and focused it into a circle. "Try to picture stone and imagine how it feels and create it," said Mary as she coached Lucas on how create stone. Lucas closed his eyes and concentrated to the best of his ability. "I think I got it!" yelled Lucas.
A little grain of sand popped out. Shay and Quint began laughing. A look of shame was painted on Lucas's face. "Stop laughing! "yelled Mary ferociously, "We do not laugh at each other's shortcomings. We encourage each other to improve." Quint and Shay stopped laughing and felt ashamed of their actions. "If I'm not mistaken, Quint, you couldn't even beat your opponent. Shay and Lucas won their battles. You're the one who should be laughed at," stated Mary.
"Lucas, while we are on this island, I need you to sleep on rocks, eat rocks, constantly have rocks in your shoes and hands. If you want to create rocks, you need to learn how they taste, feel, and smell. Get real familiar with them. Try to do the same with sand," ordered Mary. "Gotcha, Ms. Mary. I'll do my best," said Lucas with determination. "Your abilities will be the most fun to watch expand. The things you will be able to do will be incredible!" declared Mary loudly and with a big smile.
"Quint, step up and show me what you got!" ordered Mary as she pointed at him. Quint stepped up and face the ocean. He raised his power level and raised his hand. "Hakugun!" yelled Quint. A big, fiery energy blast was fired and exploded on to of the water. "Did he get stronger?" thought Mary. "How was that?!" asked Quint with arrogance. "Not bad son," replied Mary, "So you have pyrokinesis. So that means you can create and control fire." Quint stood proudly with his fists on his waist.
"Your power won't evolve that much though. Once you receive full control of it, we will see if you can develop it further," explained Mary. "What?! I'm stuck with just fire? Oh well, it is fine. My fire power is freaking awesome!" replied Quint.
Mary placed a finger on her chin and pondered for a moment. "Quint, create fire without spirit energy being mixed in," asserted Mary. "Gotcha," said Quint. Quint summoned flames and wrapped them around his fists. "So, you've adopted the classic Fire Fist technique. Good work. I'm glad you're not a one-dimensional fighter. Ok, summon your flames on the tree over there? " questioned Mary. " Umm...I don't know. I haven't attempted any thing like that, " answered Quint. Quint concentrated and focused on the tree, but to no avail. He actually tried too hard because he got light-headed and passed out.
"Did he really just pass out," asked Shay. Lucas smiled, holding his laughter back and said, "Yes.... yes he did," Mary began chuckling, "It's ok to laugh. That shit was funny." Shay and Lucas began laughing. Quint woke up and asked, "Did I do it?" "No, you didn't," said Mary. "Darn it!" said Quint. "Listen up! Quint, you will train to control your fire. They need to be denser and hotter. You also need to summon your fire at another target," said Mary. "I'll work on it mom," said Quint.
"Shay, step up," requested Mary. Shay jumped into the water. Her spirit energy swirled around her. The water began to take the form of a tornado and spinning violently. Mary stares at the display intently with a smile and clenched her fist as if she was getting ready for a fight. Shay then dispersed the tornado causing droplets of water to fall. The droplets fall like rain around her. She then holds up her hands and water gathers into a ball above her. The ball was around 20 ft in diameter. She launched the ball off water onto the land. Water collided with and knocked down trees that were in its path.
Shay swam up to shore. Mary approached her with applause and said "That has got to be the best I've ever seen from a rookie. It was absolutely phenomenal." "Thanks," said Shay. "You already exhibit that you have excellent control of your spirit energy output. The other two were pretty sloppy, wasting energy. We'll practice your change in form. You should be able to have a change in form with six months of training," said Mary.
"Mom, there's something that's been bothering me, what's in the forest? How come I can't sense any life there?" asked Quint as he gazes upon the thick, lush forest. "Yea, we haven't even heard any wildlife in there," added Lucas. "I get the suspicion that something dangerous is in there," said Shay. "I was hoping that you all wouldn't inquire about that until later in this training," Mary sighed and said, "I guess I'll go ahead and tell you. There are low-class D demons dwelling in the forest. But I wouldn't recommend going in there tree yet, wait until the training is complete."
Quint looked at Lucas and Lucas looks back at him. "Don't get any ideas," whispered Shay. "We wouldn't go into the forest," said Quint innocently and looking away.
"How come they won't come out?" asked Lucas. "My master put a barrier over the forest. That's why you can't sense them. The barrier he created allows us to go in and out the barrier, but traps the demons," explained Mary. Lucas leans over to Quint and whispers, "You know that we're going in there tomorrow night, right?" "Of course!" replied Quint. "Alright! You all have your assignments. Get to training!" ordered Mary.
Quint was happy about what he had seen so far. He had people he felt that he needed to chase. Lucas, Shay, and most of all Mary. His fighting spirit has been reinvigorated!
