After another day of training, Mary wandered off to another side of the island to do some training alone. Lucas, Quint, and Shay went to sleep, or at least that's what they wanted Mary to believe. Quint and Lucas got up and commenced walking towards the forest.
"So, what do you think is a low-class D demon?" inquired Quint. "Maybe it is some kind of ranking system," answered Lucas. "I guess we'll find out once we get past the barrier. We can put a few days of training to good use," said Quint. "Yea, I've been thinking up some new stuff to try," said Lucas. They entered the forest and approached the barrier. The barrier was white and had the pattern of a wired fence. "So, is there some magic phrase that we're supposed to say?" asked Quint. "Ummmm....sure," replied Lucas. "Open Sesame!" said Quint aloud. Quint and Lucas stood there expecting something to happen, but nothing did.
"You idiots, just walk in!" said Shay. Quint walked in first and succeeded, but he felt a very sharp pain radiating throughout his whole body as he walked through the barrier. "Damn that hurt!" thought Quint as he dropped to one knee clutching his chest. Lucas rushed through to check on Quint, but he felt no pain. Shay quickly followed and felt the same pain as Quint. Shay hit the ground as she crossed over.
Lucas turned around and shouted, "Shay!" as he ran to check on her. "What happened?!" asked Lucas frantically. "Wow, he is much more worried about her than me. He better not be having a crush on her!" thought Quint as he stood back up. "I'm ok," replied Shay as she looked away and blushed. "Okay, I definitely saw that shit!" thought Quint. "Good, I wasn't worried or anything like that," said Lucas as he blushed and looked away also.
They began walking through the forest, there was no path, so they knew that the forest was undisturbed. "There's a demon nearby. Be ready," said Lucas. The sounds of birds fluttering away alerted them. "The demon must be headed this direction," stated Shay as she observed the birds. "What are you doing here anyway, Shay?" asked Quint, "You normally don't participate in our mess." "I'm here so you two won't end up dead because I know you both make dumb decisions," replied Shay. "That makes sense," said Lucas.
They came upon a demon while it was feeding on a monkey. The demon looked similar to a gargoyle. It breathes heavily as it finishes eating the monkey. "That's disgusting," said Shay while frowning. "I kinda wonder how monkey tastes now," said Quint. The demon raised its head and noticed the three spirit warriors. It spat out the bones it was gnawing on and started drooling. It glared at Lucas and said, "You smell good. I'll eat you piece by piece instead of swallowing you whole," said the demon. Lucas stepped forward, cracking his knuckles and said, "What's your name? I'm Lucas." The demon looked him over and said, "Pau, you should know the name of the demon that's going to kill you."
Pau flew into the air, flapping his wings just enough to keep him in the air. "Shit! How am I supposed to fight him while he's in the air?" thought Lucas. Lucas fired an energy blast at Pau, but he dodged it! Pau then ascended higher into the air and said, "Wind Scythe!" Pau flapped his wings harder and faster creating a wind that cut anything in its path. The attack came so quickly that Lucas was caught up in the attack. He crossed his arms in front of his face to save his head. The attack created a dust cloud. Pau used his wings to blow the cloud away. Lucas was standing there, uninjured. Pau's eyes widened, he didn't expect to see him still standing there. "The human is strong. Good!" stated Pau as he swooped down and punched Lucas. Lucas was hit and knocked back. "A few days ago, that would have seriously hurt," thought Lucas. Lucas charged at Pau and jumped in the air and kicked Pau in the air. Lucas had moved faster than he ever has before. Pau fell from the air. Lucas then followed up his kick with an energy blast. Pau attempted to block the attack, but the attack was so strong that it went right through him.
Pau's body lied there, lifeless. "Damn! Lucas!" said Quint. Lucas turned around and gave a thumbs up. "That looked easy," said Shay while studying Pau's body. She reached down and touched Pau's body. It was hard as stone. "He took a hit from this guy and it didn't even leave a mark on him," thought Shay. "What are you doing, Shay?" asked Lucas as he watched her examine Pau's corpse. "I'm just gathering information on this demon. His skin is really hard and he weighs a lot. I'm amazed you took his last attack and you didn't receive any injuries," replied Shay. It dawned on Quint what that actually meant. "Yea, well I used my Stone Skin," said Lucas. "Stone Skin?!" asked Quint and Shay. "Yea, I used my spirit energy to harden my skin. I thought about when Ms. Mary told me to start getting familiar with rocks," said Lucas. "That's awesome! I want to learn it!" said Quint. They chatted about the new technique that Lucas learned and continued to travel through the forest.
