I wake up in the morning with a lethargy that I knew was a product of a certain someone that made me feel exhausted before I even spoke with them.
The faces people made when I showed up on the bus was definately interesting and quite frankly annoying at the same time.
All day I got "Good to see you again. I'm sorry about your dog. Do you wanna hang out after school and talk about it?"
Do people not understand that bringing it up just further depresses people? I don't understand this talking about it stuff. Then again, I might just be weird.
I'm in my homeroom class and Lee steps in. I groaned and banged my head on the desk. Everyone else started whispering. I suppose it would seem a bit strange to find an albino asian show up in a predominantly white classroom during the Vietnam war. I honestly gotta tell you, the way people treated Lee like a sideshow did annoy me quite often. Maybe it was because of how everyone treated Asians during this time, or maybe it's because he was around me a lot and I hated the attention. Either way I didn't like it.
Lee silently handed his note to the teacher and looked around the room. He spotted me and I tried to scooch under the table. He grinned extra wide and of course walked right up to me.
"Hey neighbor." he said.
I plunked my head on my hand and looked up at him. "Do I know you?" I asked.
He laughed "Very funny Stacie." He looked to the person sitting in front of me.
"Do you mind if I take this seat? Stacie is the only Girl in school I know right now."
Everyone immediately turned to look at me and started whispering. I probably looked like a tomato with the amount of heat that rushed to my cheeks.
"Uh...sure." The guy got up (I think his name was Edward) and walked his way to an empty desk.
"How do you know each other?" the teacher Mrs. Wilson asked.
"Oh we are next door neighbors. I met her when me and my family moved in." said Lee.
"My family and I." responded the teacher. Lee rolled his eyes.
He got out his class schedule "So what does your schedule look like?"
"1st period PE with Coach Darren. 2nd Period Math with Mr. Barns. 3rd period English with Mrs. Faren. Then Lunch. 4th period Science with Mr. Smith. 5th period History with Mrs. Landry. 6th period Welding 101 with Mr. Quincy." I said while he looked at his schedule.
He grinned ear to ear. "What a coincidence! Me too!" he said showing his schedule.
The Mrs. Wilson said "What a nice stroke of fate for your neighbor to have the same schedule. You can show him the ropes."
"Fate isn't the right word...more like the Devil's work." I said under my breath so no one could hear.
Lee clearly thought that was hilarious and laughed. I could tell everyone was curious about what I said but I was too busy wallowing in self pity to care.
