All day in class Lee was by my side. At that point I think his tactic was to try to annoy me into signing a contract with him just so he would leave. Any chance I could he would ask me stupid questions when teachers weren't looking, like what's my favorite color? My answer was, I like all colors. This turned into him ranting about how everyone has a favorite color though.
At other points he would ask me questions about my friends, romantic interests, grades. On and on he went. He of course would try to create things to contract him for during the first half of class.
By the time the lunch bell rung I was ready to commit Kamikaze. I turned around and glared at him. "Can you at least shut up long enough for me to eat lunch?"
He shrugged his shoulders and I sighed. I grabbed my backpack and huffed outside to the sitting area with my lunch time acquaintances.
It may seem strange to some people to hear something other than being called friends but the fact is that they weren't my friends. I didn't hate them the moment they opened their mouths and I'd say that is highly likely the best that someone will ever get out of me.
I walked up to the table I usually sat at. Everyone waved politely and then made a strange face. I turned around and Lee is standing there. I groan. "Why can't you take a hint already dude? Leave me alone for lunch."
"You aren't alone though. Clearly." He looked over at them and waved. I walked up to the group within talking distance.
"Hey guys. This is Lee my new next door neighbor."
Dylan chimed in "But don't you already have neighbors?"
"The previous owners ran into a lot of money and retired early in Hawaii." said Lee.
I gave him a side eye. I got the feeling he had something to do with the sudden money.
"Do you mind if he sits with us for lunch?" I asked.
"I don't see a problem with it." responded Casey.
All the kids let him join them and I focused on eating the Swedish meatballs my mom packed for me. They spoke most of the time and if they asked me questions I would chime in but I mostly stayed silent. In that moment all I wanted was to eat in silence.
