Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The teacher

Elizabeth stood up after she finished and followed her father to the car. They entered and went to Elizabeth's school. When they arrived, Elizabeth said bye to her father and then entered the school and went into her class. Her first, and only, teacher entered and Elizabeth went and gave her a note.

"My father said to give this note to you." Elizabeth said gently. The teacher took the note and read it.

"You have your medication?" Do you actually need it, because if you don't you need to leave it at home." The teacher said as she threw away the note.

"The disease I have causes immense pain and burning sensations throughout my body, the only way to calm it is with the medication... It is non-contagious..." Elizabeth said softly.

"How often does it occur?" She asked in a cold tone.

"Once every 9-10 months, the strike zone is estimated to be sometime this week." Elizabeth responded.

"If it only happens that often you can take it when you get home, you shouldn't have it on you at all times." The teacher said with the same cold voice she previously used.

"I-it can happen at any point in time and it can cau-" Elizabeth started but was interrupted.

"I don't care for excuses, give me your bag and leave your medication with me." The teacher said as she took Elizabeth's bag and fished out the bottle of pills then placed it in a locked drawer.

"B-but, my dad told me to keep hold of it." Elizabeth protested.

"This is my classroom when it is in session, I am the absolute authority unless the principal or vice-principal is here!" The teacher said angrily. Elizabeth gave up on protesting and sat down in the same seat as the day before. Elizabeth's teacher taught everything from English to Japanese history, she is highly intelligent but believes sickness or illness to be no reason to have medication on you unless it is extremely serious and has symptoms often.

(1.5 hours later.)

Elizabeth's skin started to feel warmer, at first Elizabeth assumed it was just the heat in the room getting hotter, but no one else looked to be uncomfortable from the heat. 'I was told that it would only happen gradually if it was progressing to the next stage, but it's too early, isn't it?' Elizabeth thought to herself.

After another thirty minutes passed, her skin began to feel hotter, until eventually she couldn't take it and she tried to stand and walk to the teacher. When Elizabeth stood up the heat intensified and her expression became one of massive pain. She walked over to the teacher, with each step causing worse pain.

"Teacher, will you give me my medication, it started..." Elizabeth said with a pained expression.

"Don't fake things to get your belongings." the teacher said.

"I'm not... I am actually in great pain currently, however..." Elizabeth stopped as she began to breathe heavily. "It is getting gradually worse due to..." Elizabeth stopped again, but this time let out a small scream between her breaths. "Stage progression!" Elizabeth said quickly as tears began to form in her eyes.

"I do not tolerate liars in my class, now sit down in your seat and let me continue unless you want to get in more trouble." The teacher said as she turned around.

"Please! I-it hurts!" Elizabeth yelled as a tear went down her cheek. The burning sensation on her skin started to seep down into her bones and bone marrow, causing even more pain than before, and a pain that goes throughout her body.

Elizabeth's teacher picked her up and set Elizabeth in her original seat. "I told you to stop this nonsense unless you want me to smack your hands!" The teacher yelled. Elizabeth sat in her seat, barely able to move as she cried from the pain. After a few minutes, her crying got louder and was mixed with pained screams. "Stop disrupting our class or I will call your father and have him drag you out of class!" The teacher said as she grabbed the ruler and walked to Elizabeth, grabbed her hands and smacked them.

This caused Elizabeth to scream out even more as tears began to rush out from her eyes. the teacher looked back and grabbed out her phone, a simple flip phone, and looked at the note which she had earlier thrown away and dialed a number. A few minutes later she closed the phone. "Your father is coming." She said in a cold, yet triumphant voice.

It was ten minutes before Mark arrived, and Elizabeth was on the verge of passing out from the pain. Mark walked into the classroom and walked directly to Elizabeth who was still crying ad screaming. He pulled out a water bottle and pill bottle, grabbed a pill and said. "I don't want you to choke, do you think you can take this?" To which Elizabeth nodded. Mark placed the pill in her mouth and gave her water, after a few minutes Elizabeth calmed down and Mark walked over to the teacher.

"If this happens again you will be facing a lawsuit, not this school you." Mark said sternly. "Where is the other bottle?" He asked the teacher, who promptly gave him the medication from the locked drawer. Mark left the room and turned left, which was not the direction of the parking lot, but Elizabeth didn't really care about it too much as she was not in pain anymore.

"So you've even got your father wrapped into this lie?" The teacher asked with a condescending tone. The teacher continued class as usual and then recess came. No one was willing to talk with Elizabeth after what had happened, not even the three she met the day before. For the first ten minutes, everyone avoided her, then Taichi walked to her.

"Why did you lie to the teacher?" He asked as Yuri and tam walked up behind him.

"I... I didn't lie..." Elizabeth responded. Taichi looked at her with a confused look.

"But adults are never wrong, especially teachers." Taichi said. Elizabeth looked away.

"Believe what you want." She said as she walked away. Five minutes later, someone threw a rock at her and yelled.

"Liars are punished." It was Taichi's voice and other kids joined in, at one point all of the kids were throwing rocks at her. When the bell rang it felt like an eternity had passed, but finally, recess was over and everyone went inside.
