Chapter 14 - Learning To Fight: Part 2

'CLANG'!

"C'mon, don't tell me you're growing tired on me now!"

'DING'! 'CLANG'!

"No way. In fact, I'm just getting started!"

Leonna and I spent two days training non-stop from dawn till dusk. I was able to get faster, stronger, and smarter.

"Hey, you're not trying to go easy on me now are you?" I asked trying to provoke her.

I knew that angering your enemy can cause them to lose focus and start attacking in an unorganized pattern, so it would be easier to dodge and land a ton of good hits.

"Alright then," Leonna said. "You want a challenge, I'll give you a challenge!"

She came at me with her blades swinging all over the place. Left, right, up, diagonally, down, up, left, right. Her swings were causing me to almost lose my balance. Streams and trails of golden light were on and trailed from her sword. She looked like an angel dancing with her bright, golden sword.

"And...,"

She took one last hard swing at sent me flying a few or so meters away. I got up and was met face to face with the tip of her sword. The light emitting from it almost blinded me.

"...finished."

I was a little pissed for getting beaten so easily, so I smiled sarcastically.

"Aggravating your opponent is a smart move, but I don't tend to lose my cool that easily; however, don't completely abandon that tactic."

She inserted her sword back into her sheath and helped me on my feet.

"I'm only teaching you how to fight with a sword and how to use your magic with it," Leonna said. "Your style of fighting, however, is up to you."

She began to walk away towards the steps that led up to a house that we were staying in temporarily.

"My own fighting style eh?" I whispered under my breath.

I looked at Leonna. Her back was turned against me. I clenched my sword tightly and felt my willpower come back to me. My will...to live!

The sword became engulfed in black flames as I prepared for my attack. I ran full speed at Leonna with the sword ready to strike. She turned around at the last second and pulled her blade out to block the attack. She succeeded but that was exactly what I wanted. I used one hand to swing the sword and the other hand to reach out and grab her. My hand grabbed exactly at the place I was aiming for.

"YYYYYAAAAAAAAAAHH!!" Leonna screamed as she quickly tried to cover her chest.

I then grabbed her open hand and swung her over my back and onto the ground. I quickly got on top of her while I held the tip of the sword aimed at her. Her face was bright red and she was breathing heavily.

"Hey, Leonna." I said

"Yeah...what is it."

"Unfortunately, I think I found my surprise attack."

"W-Well...be sure t-to let me know...b-before you...u-use that move again..."

"If I did that, then it wouldn't be a surprise attack."

"Uhhh...ahh...g-good point," Leonna stuttered. "O-Ok then...u-use it when y-you need t-to practice it..."

I got off of Leonna and helped her on her feet. She looked a little dazed.

"I'm sorry about...you know." I said.

"It's no problem," she said with her composure back. "I'm helping you train. So if you need to try something new again...I-I w-wouldn't mind..."

Leonna was starting to lose her composure again.

"We should head back to the house," I quickly said. "We deserve a little break."

"Very well then," Leonna said. "We'll rest until we're ready to train again."

"So, what should we play?" I asked Leonna

In this world, there are many kinds of games that you can play when you want to kill some time. The way to get them is by buying a "Game Book" from a librarian. These "Game Books" have many different kinds of games for you to play. It can be as simple as magic chess, which has your chess pieces actually moving on their own, or as complex as the game Loanna chose to play.

"Let's play 'Mind Fighters' please." Leonna said.

Mind Fighters is a game where we use our own mind to summon our hero. It can look like whatever we wanted it to. I usually chose heroes from an anime because it was all I could really think of. The way you fight, however, is a lot more complex. Not only do you have to constantly think of ways to attack and defend, but you also had to keep your mind at ease and focused at all times.

"Alright then," I said. "Let's play."

I tapped on the page of the book and the game was all set.

Leonna summoned her hero right away, and Gleam emerged from her circle.

"Gleam huh. Well at least I know that I'll gets points for creativity." I said.

"Don't make fun of my choice!" Leonna pouted.

The hero I summoned was a hero that I picked quite often when playing this game. He wore a "Coat of Midnight" and carried two swords on his back. His hair was black and he looked around seventeen years old.

"Who is he?" Leonna asked.

"The hero that will defeat you!" I said with a smirk.

"Bring it on." Leonna challenged.

When both the heroes were summoned, the entire room turned into a large platform. This happened because of illusion magic. In fact, that's how this entire game works. The platform was made of a light blue, glassy crystal that was the same color as my hero's sword. The platform we "fought" in was floating in a space-like dimension.

The timer counted down from thirty seconds. Leonna and I gave each other a cocky smirk as we waited for the timer to hit zero. Once the last few seconds ticked off, our fight began!

My hero pulled out his two swords and charged full speed while screaming like a lunatic.

"Uhh, Hiro," Leonna said. "Is your Hero's special move...screaming?"

"Stop making fun of my hero and just fight already!" I said a little pissed off.

Leonna's hero summoned a red magic circle and a neon purple dagger. She fired a fire spell at my hero and began to charge at him with her dagger. My hero crossed his blades together to block the attack. He then swung his two swords down on Leonna's hero. She managed yo block the attack.

I knew that Leonna had a very calm and collective mind, so it was going to be difficult to find and opening; however, I had a very special trump card that she doesn't know about. As long as I knew all the moves that my hero did in the anime, then I should have somewhat of a shot in winning this game.

I put on a cocky smirk when I had my strategy all planned out in my head. First, I had my hero use a diagonal arc attack to make Leonna's hero block the attack. Green and yellow streams of light danced around when my hero's attack met the blade. Next, I made my hero use a vertical square attack. He slashed at all four directions at Leonna's hero. My hero's slashes left light blue streams of light that connected to make a perfect square. Finally, I used my final blow to finish of Leonna's hero.

My hero started slashing in different kinds of patterns. A double left-side slash, a double upward diagonal slash, a double downward diagonal slash, and then he just went nuts with the slashes. Everything went according to plan until I suddenly saw something that made my hero stop slashing. It was Xylvia.

I don't understand. How is she there? Is is my mind just playing tricks on me? What the hell is this?

"I see how it is," Xylvia suddenly said. "Playing videogames with this other girl is something you'd rather be doing than coming to rescue me. I can't believe I actually fell in love with you."

"What...n-no...I-I'm just trying to train my head that's...that's all..." I said completely shocked.

"LIAR," Xylvia shouted. You're not really training, you're just moving on. You're trying to forget everything that happened that day."

"N-No...that's not true...t-that's...THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!"

"JUST SAY IT ALREADY!! YOU NEVER LOVED ME!! YOU JUST TOOK ME WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO BE ALL ALONE!!!"

"NOOOOO!!! THAT'S NOT TRUE THAT'S NOT TRUE THAT'S NOT TRUE THAT'S NOT TRUE THAT'S NOT TRUUUUUUUE!!!"

Xylvia was right in my face. She grabbed me by my neck and pulled me up close to her.

"Do you even think about what happens to me when I'm being held captive?" Xylvia asked.

"Of course I-"

Wait. No, she got me. I just now realized it. I can't believe how stupid I was to just now realize it. When I was training to get stronger, not once did I ever wonder what's happening to Xylvia. I can't believe it.

"I knew it," Xylvia said letting me go. "I was nothing to you. I was only you're perverted fantasy that came true."

Tears were streaming down my face. Why was I crying? I don't deserve to cry. All I deserve is misery. I don't deserve to be by Xylvia's side, because not once did I ever wonder what was happening to her. I wanted to scream at my pitiful excuse for a life.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUHHHH!!!!"

So I did. The tears wouldn't stop streaming. I just lied there on the floor, screaming and crying simultaneously, as I waited for something, or someone, to stop me.
