"I must've dropped the letter while dumping my clothes into the suitcase. How could I be so careless?!!" Elizabeth thought in her mind before she asked Aaron, "Help me?"
Aaron nodded. "I want to help you with your mother's case since Liam is hospitalised," she heard him say.
"I don't know how you came to know about me taking Liam's help but I cannot take your help, Aaron. This isn't your problem and hence, I don't want you to get involved in this case," she replied curtly. Even though it was her guess that Liam's accident was related to her mother's case, Elizabeth wanted to take things serious as she didn't want any other person to end up like Liam.
" Is it because you want to stay away from me or is it because you don't want me to end up like Liam?!" Aaron's guess turned out to be correct but Elizabeth didn't want to accept it in front of him.
"Looks like you are very much interested to know about other people's lives, Aaron."
"I agree that I am interested but a little correction, only you are my interest," he replied with a smirk when she glared at him to reply.
"You're being weird. Are you alright, Mr. Aaron Winchester?"
"How can I not be alright when my lovely wife is in front of me," she saw him smile.
"That's hard to believe but since when did the person you hate become your lovely wife?" she asked him.
"The day I married you."
"That's not the answer to my question."
"What is it then?"
"You hate me don't you. That day, when I was leaving the house, you didn't even stop me," she blurted out.
"Let me remind you that it was your decision to leave the house and not mine but I did try to stop you from leaving."
"You should've tried harder," she snarled.
"If I did try to stop you again, would you have stayed back?" he asked her.
"Ofcourse, I would've stayed back. If at all you apologised to me sincerely that day," she huffed and paused to realise what she had just said. How could she say something like that to him, she was embarrassed when she caught him staring at her. "Why are you staring at me?" she asked him, pressing her lips.
"Did Liam talk to you the other day?" this question made her worry.
"He... He called me up and told me to meet him at the restaurant. He said that he found few clues and the people whom he doubted might have connections with my mother and that woman. I hoped that it would lead the case to the culprit but I never thought he would meet an accident," she sounded regretful.
"Hmm... The people whom he guessed may lead us to the culprit or they might be the culprits too," he deduced.
"I don't want you to get involved..."
"Did anyone else know apart from me and Liam?" he piped up.
"Your uncle was the one to whom I spoke on grandpa's birthday. He called me up yesterday too and told me to be careful, he also told me that Liam must've alerted the culprit," she answered him.
"Looks like he really did alert the culprit by going to the hospital directly but why did Ryan sneak into the room when Uncle was ready to help you?" Elizabeth was taken aback. "It was Liam's idea to steal the file, probably, he wanted to hide the fact that he was unofficially dealing with his uncle's case. I didn't even know about the plan but if you knew that he went to the hospital, you must've also known what he was trying to do or whom he met?" she asked him.
Aaron let out a small chuckle, "this is the only sensible question you asked me today." Elizabeth looked daggers at his comment and thought how could he even laugh at such a moment. "Why is he laughing?" she thought.
"I was laughing because of you," he said as if he read her mind. "I never asked you to give the reason."
"Coming back to the point..."
"How could he joke around one moment and be serious the very next moment," thought Elizabeth when Aaron sounded serious.
"I did hire a person to find more information from the details in the file but it was of no use. So I made that person follow Liam. As per the information I received, Liam went to the hospital and met the people who knew your mother," Aaron explained.
"Do you know what it means?" she heard him ask her.
Elizabeth, who still didn't understand who he meant, shook her head, "I don't know," she answered.
"The culprit's aim is not to kill Liam."
"Why do you think it was preplanned and not a mistake?" she asked him to know Aaron's point of view.
"The person who did the accident was a drug addict and your mother's friend was a drug addict too. I know we cannot be sure by linking it; but we cannot ignore the fact that the accident occurred right before Liam met you after finding the information," he explained. "The person must've been aware that Liam and you are working on this particular case, unofficially. That is the reason why he targeted Liam, because no one will know that he was dealing with an unofficial case because if at all the news comes out, Liam would be the one to be punished first. The second reason is to threaten you so that you could step back and remain silent," said Aaron when Elizabeth was left with no words to say but she could only question him.
"So you knew that either Liam or I would be in danger?"
"I knew that you might be in danger but then, I thought the culprit would wait for few more days, but I never expected Liam to be the target," It was at that moment Elizabeth realised the reason for Aaron to come to her workplace and to her house, it was to keep her around him so that he could protect her.
"Do... Do you suspect anyone?" she asked, being hesitant to tell what was on her mind.
"I'm sure you must've someone on your mind whom you started to doubt," he said.
"What does he mean? Does he know whom I am doubting?" she thought.
"You can tell me who is on your mind, Lizzy," he said softly.
"I don't have anyone on my mind," she lied. Elizabeth didn't want Aaron to know that she was suspicious about his father. Elizabeth looked at Aaron and thought what if the culprit really turned out to be his father. Even though Anthony said that Marcus had nothing to do with Margaret's death, she couldn't forget the conversation she overheard which happened between Aaron's parents. Somewhere she felt Marcus was connected to the case and he has done something unforgivable to Aaron which is why he hates his father to the core since he was ten years old.
