Chapter 30 - The Hunt Continues Alone

Jack walked through the cold rain without any care. Any raindrop that touched her, would instantly evaporate. Her skin was burning with her hatred. Her hatred of Light Guardians renewed itself as Mary reminded her.

Yune took a random umbrella that was by the side of a store. The store-owner and his employees didn't notice.

When Yune caught up with Jack, she put the umbrella over both of them. Yune made a smile to try to encourage Jack, but it didn't work. Jack continued to be angry as more rain dropped by them.

"I don't want to pry, but you said that we wouldn't be seeing you, again. What did you mean by that?" Yune asked worryingly for Jack's sake, "Are you planning on doing something?"

Jack kept walking without a single reply. When they got to their home, Jack began to pack essentials. Clothes, food, water, a blanket. She threw out all of the books and stuffed whatever she needed into her bag.

Yune tried to stop her, but Jack was keen on leaving.

When Jack was about to leave, Yune asked once more, "Why? What are you planning on doing?"

Yune gripped Jack's arm, but she quickly let go as her skin was burning hot.

Jack stopped right in front of the entrance. She didn't feel Yune's touch nor her own burning skin, but she knew that Yune would try to stop her. Jack replied, "Don't try to follow me. I'm leaving Janken City."

Jack laughed and joked, "I've learned a valuable lesson. Don't generalize every Light Guardian. Not all of them are bad."

But Yune wouldn't laugh along.

"You still didn't answer why. I know that you know that we have to stick together. We're not humans, and I'm sure that if some Light Guardians found out, then they would hunt us like any other monster."

"I'm not going to stay around Mary. It's Light Guardians like her that make me hate them all. She's lucky I didn't decide to just crush her right then and there," Jack said as she put down her bag realizing that she had no choice but to explain herself, "I've hurt many Light Guardian who I didn't even consider as people up until recently. I even planned to kill the both of you after that journey on the bus ride, but after you told me to rescue that boy, I realized that you weren't like the others. All I've known about Light Guardians is that they only want to kill monsters without thinking about the people around them - just so that they could get a lousy coin. I even hated myself for becoming a guardian, but I never wanted to hurt anybody who wasn't one. But then I went town to town - city to city - to look for... something. A Light Guardian who made me this way. And yet, I feel like I'm not even close to finding her. She may already be dead for all I know, but I just can't stop until I'm sure. I even thought that it might have been better staying with you two. That was foolish of me. I have to keep going until it's over. I've tirelessly visited so many places, and I don't plan to stop here. I just traveled with nothing but the bare essentials. And death just follows closely behind. I lost count to how many Light Guardians I've killed, but I know that it won't stop. Simply put, I'm leaving to find one... monster, and when it's over, I'll kill one more monster."

"I..." Yune had no words. She didn't know how to respond. Jack picked up her bag and left.

"If you leave, you'll die alone. We'll all die alone," Yune whispered as her legs shook in fear, but Jack was too far to hear her, and, even if she did, it wouldn't stop her.

Yune began to feel fear for not only herself but for Jack and Mary. For some reason, she needed them all to be together, but she couldn't explain why. It felt like some lost memory within her awakens when they're together. A feeling of nostalgia and glee. But she couldn't remember why.

Yune sat down on the table and cried sorrowfully, "Why can't I remember?"
