Chapter 26 - A Frustration

The dragon that stood before me was panting as its legs seemed to be concrete; the shadowed bindings making him unable to twitch. He ground his teeth together slightly as he let his rage pool off of him. I stared at his magnificent form. Despite the fact that he probably wanted to bite my head off, he was absolutely beautiful. I slowly found my footing out of reach, carefully moving around him as I looked over his. His wings were folded close to his body, the long lizard tail swishing back and forth like a cat does when it's annoyed. It was truly, a remarkable sight.

"If you weren't so scary lookin' right now, I would want to pet you." He jumped a little at my words and finally actually looked at me. As if he was seeing someone entirely different before. A deep grumble came as the only reply I would receive, his head turning away from me. "What...were you thinking about?"

Shobek slowly looked at me, the chains slowly fading as he regained his composure. When the chains were finally gone, he shook himself like a wet dog and huffed at me. I stood still and watched as the beast walked back towards a garage door I hadn't noticed when I first came down here. Following his steps, I watched him poke a button with his talon and wait for the garage door to finish sliding up. The room was NOT what I expected to see at all. Figuring it was likely a storage area instead of this magnificent bathing room before me. Across the garage door were, surprisingly, lockers. They were similar to the ones I used to see at school. It had to be about 5 feet high and 2 feet wide. There were five of them in total, flushed against the blue-gray wall, tucked by the corner. Stepping inside, to the left was another wall, a divider actually. But beyond that was a massive pool. I say pool but for the dragon, it was more like a tub.

Shobek slithered into the steaming water and lay down, leaving his head to rest on the side of the tub. Shaking my head, I slowly walked deeper into the room and peered around the wall, and found the more likely bathroom scene I was used to; despite the absence of the two other walls. There were a white porcelain toilet and sink. If it wasn't in the presence of a huge hot tub/pool thing, I would say it was completely basic.

"Are you done?"

I jumped and looked at the dragon's head that was still watching me with an exhausted glare. "So you CAN talk. I was thinking you couldn't since you completely dismissed me."

"Get out." He hissed angrily, looking away.

"I want to know why you nearly killed me back there." I backed away to the center of the room again. I should probably prepare to run if he chooses to enforce his demand for me to leave.

"You just reminded me of the pathetic human creatures again. No other reason. Now please vacate the premises. The girl's bathroom is on the other side." He closed his eyes and sighed as he relaxed in the hot water.

"Why did you design your... house this way? Why the ramp instead of stairs? The lockers in the bathroom? The other chairs in the dining room? You made it seem like there should be others. But you are alone. So...What is with your architect?"

Shobek slowly opened his eyes but didn't look at me, he just stared blankly at the wall, "Because I thought there would BE others.."

"What do you mean?"

"If you were in my position, would you expect to be alone? People die every day. Surely, there would be someone else, wouldn't you think?" He slowly looked at me, a heaviness suddenly dropping onto my shoulders. "It was a fools thought. Everyone has their own place in this realm."

"What do you...I don't follow..."

The water splashed slightly as Shobek stood back up, the water parting before clashing back together. He slowly stepped out of the pool and moved past me, a sigh softly coming from him as he moved towards the lockers. "Do you mind leaving? This form can get exhausting." He stopped by the lockers and looked back at me.

It took me a second to register what he said but I quickly made an 'oh' expression before leaving through thee garage door; which he promptly closed afterwards. I went back to the rock he had previously used as his throne and leaned against it. I waited for about five minutes when I got bored and wandered around.

"He mentioned a girl's bathroom didn't he?" After muttering those words I found the door to what had to be the bathroom. It was on the other side of the entrance that we came from, opposite from the boy's side. There wasn't a garage door though, just a wider than usual door that opened up to large room. Similar to the boys, there were lockers that were tucked away. This time on the opposite side of the room on the left wall. And in front of the lockers was a bench. Looking to the right I found the large bathing area that was slightly smaller than what Shobek reserved for himself. I wandered in a little and explored the lockers, all of them having a towel, rag, and a shelf you can put things on. I quickly noted that the wall color was a dusty rose color with pink marble tiles going partially up the wall. That same marble also continued along the ground and really broughtthe heated pool-like-tub to life. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all enchanted somehow.

I glanced over the right wall and walked towards the only other door; opening it, I found the basic bathroom scene. There was a porcelain toilet and ontop of a pink marbled top cabinets was the porcelain bowl. The only other thing was the pale pink rug and the mirror that stretched across the wall above the counter. I turned the light back off and closed the door, turning my attention on the steaming water that has been calling to me the whole time. I mean, there was no way I WASN'T getting inside that heaven. I mildly thought about the fact that I didn't have a change of clothes before stripping off my outfit. I can ask shobek for some clean clothes later, right now, I just wanted to soak and let all the tension out.

(Notice: Point of View shifts)

Shobek waited until he was sure Kasey had distracted herself. he wasn't in the mood to start explaining himself. He slammed the locker door shut after he finished getting dressed, hissing softly. The memory flashed for another second before he shook it out of his head and walked towards the normal size door that was beside the large garage door. He only ever used this door when he was in this form and he didn't want to alert Kasey to him leaving. Silently creeping, Shobek eased himself onto the entrance ramp and started his way up.

'I should probably install some lights for her. She'll end up running into the walls if I don't; though that would be funny.'

I paused and looked back down the ramp, sliding my hands in my jeans pockets.

. . .

'Nah, she'll be fine. I'll add lights tomorrow or something.'

The ramp finally eased into a flat floor and I turned right, marching past the hallway we had both walked through to get to the training room. There was only the guest bedroom out there. I had decided to only keep one extra room beside mine after converting two former bedrooms into one big medical bay. The last bedroom I had, I joined with mine. It seemed pointless to have extra rooms when I was clearly going to be living alone. The others...

I shook my head and walked to the familiar door, easing it open I took in the soothing sight of my small bookshelf; it contained more video games and movies than books, but that was fine with me. It's not like I sat down and read the same books I got centuries earlier. I have already read them all multiple times. When video games were finally invented, I was almost half-insane because of those books. I was lucky I was able to get my hands on the different gaming stations since transportation between the realms was really taxing. I took a few steps before turning right and heading into my little haven. At the farthest wall was my whole gaming station. I had a big flat screen hanging up on the wall and underneath it was a tv stand with different consoles and their respective remotes. Off to the right was then my computer desk with my three computer screens that remained pitch black.

I wasn't really feeling up for gaming in all honesty. I just wanted to lay on my bed to the left of all of it. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair a little before ripping off one of my navy blue blankets; I tossed it to the foot of my bed and plopped down on the soft mattress, laying my head on my pillows. For Hell, it wasn't too bad. I mean, this world certainly has changed, and I was still isolated on my little island, but at least I had a lot of resources to keep myself entertained. That I suppose is the only upside of being me. I can have just about everything but can't ever keep anyone around. Not for long anyway.

The moment I felt her presence in Hell, I was mortified and thought she went up and died. I was only partially correct. She is now being hunted. They figured it out and connected the dots.

I sat back up on my bed and bit my nail a little, 'I needed to figure out who let it slip. Who let that bastard know she was mine.'

I had a tight net, there is no way one of the few people who knew about her let it slip. I knew Samael had a hit on her, but I knew he wouldn't be able to kill her. That's why I chose her. So how did he find out?

I growled and grabbed one of the pillows and chucked it at the wall, "I have been so very careful! Dammit!!"

I can't do anything about it now. I just have to prepare her and hope for the best.

The PlayStation buzzed to life as I took the remote and flipped through the menu to choose the game that was already in. It wasn't my favorite but it was better than my other games. I pulled my rolling chair out from my desk and into the center of my room. Plopping down, I grabbed the headphones that I left resting on my chair's headrest and put them on, holding the power button to power them on. I knew I should probably sleep instead, but playing games was so much more entertaining than fighting with my nightmares. I mean, you never know when it isn't a nightmare anymore, right?
