Chapter 3 - Preparations

Upon arrival to the Warden's estate Sin was shown to a room.

"I know you don't have a place to go since you were locked up for so long, you can stay here until you and Ari start taking on missions." said the Warden sighing as she hadn't been able to get Sin any gear at the store but unknown to her was Sin had gotten everything he needed.

"I would like to be alone now" answered Sin as he laid on the soft bed.

"Very well, dinner will be in a bit. I will send someone to get you when its ready" stated the Warden.

As soon as the door shut Sin smirked and his left eye seemed to gleam slightly as gear began to appear all around the room.

'Truly amazing, it seems my ability has seen a major change in function' chuckled Sin

He looked at his amassed loot and began trying on a few things and looking at himself in the mirror, he had wanted to see the limits of his ability now that it had been upgraded and he had seen a bit of it's prowess while he was locked up. Stealing certain secrets and other things from them without their knowledge, even Sin wasn't sure how it worked exactly but he was impressed by the prowess his given ability now displayed.

He shook his head and set his sights on the Magicannon he had stolen, he had a full comprehension on how it worked now that he had met that man at Mage Lab. It was truly something lucky for him to be able to have that chance.

'Seems fate is trying to make up for the wrongs against me' chuckled Sin at the thought as he began tweaking the weapon using maintenance tools he had stolen from the store as well.

It was difficult but with the knowledge of the person who developed the weapon itself it wasn't beyond his capability and soon the pistol looking weapon had changed from a simple looking gun to a revolver.

'It's bit bulkier but it's time to test it' thought Sin as an odd looking crystal appeared in his hand.

"Counterfeit" muttered Sin as a perfect duplicate was formed of the Crystal though to call it perfect was an overstatement as the crystal held only half the power and effectiveness of the original. This was a little gimmick he had developed by accident when he found the dinner portions at the Prison to be meager and upon wishing there was more he noticed his plate had doubled with a copy of it's contents. The down side was it didn't taste as good as the original and it was less filling it felt like but with two portions he was able to eat well, he had since called the ability counterfeit.

He didn't know it's limitations but for small things it worked wonderfully, Sin loaded his counterfeit into the modded Magicannon before clicking the cylinder into place. Now it was time to test it... looking out the window of the room he now stayed in Sin opened it before pointing the weapon out the window and pulling the trigger causing a thin beam of fire to shoot from the barrel until it got a certain distance away where it exploded into Fiery storm.

Sin hadn't expected the blast to be so serious and quickly stashed his stolen goods before changing just as the Warden's family busted into the room looking for the source.

"Sin what just happened" demanded the Warden as she was aware that Sin shouldn't be capable of creating the blaze with his ability.

"Uh.... nothing" chuckled Sin sheepishly as he truly hadn't meant to cause such a ruckus.

"Idiot, you call that nothing" chastised Ari glaring at Sin.

"So this is the guy you recruited to look after Ari" asked an elegant looking man with purple hair.

"This is Sin, the Thief Esper." introduced the Warden

"Interesting. Sherri should I hide the valuables" asked the man looking at the Warden revealing she was named Sherri.

"Darwin, that's rude. He is our guest and also the only hope that our daughter has of not being blacklisted by the Guild" answered Sherri elbowing her husband harshly in the ribs causing the man double over.

"Good luck, Ari is hopeless." laughed another girl at the side sharing Sherri's features.

"Clare, don't be rude to your sister. Your going to regret saying that after her and Sin begin taking missions" barked Sherri glaring at her oldest daughter.

"Mom its bad to exaggerate, how are these two going to make me regret telling the truth" asked Clare with a huff.

"It won't take both of us to make you regret your words" cut in Sin with a cocky look.

"What was that brat" asked Clare disliking the fact Sin had interrupted her conversation.

"It won't take both of us" repeated Sin smirking at the at Clare's glare.

"Oh and I suppose your going to say it'll only take you to make me regret it" sneered Clare

"I'm glad you understand" smirked Sin looking at Clare with confidence.

"You brat, then take this" spat Clare shooting chains from her palm but before the attack could hit it disappeared and Sin was holding another crystal. Before it was sucked away to who knows where.

"W-What did you do" asked Clare in shock as her attack had simply vanished.

"I stole it" smirked Sin causing those gathered in the room to gasp in shock.

"Stole it" muttered Sherri while Darwin off to the side was looking at Sin a bit differently, his gaze was a bit more wary of the youth as the ability he just displayed was quite terrifying in this age of Espers and Mages.

"Then do it again" grunted Clare attempting the same attack but finding it unusable.

"Try something else, I already got that one" smirked Sin looking at Clare with a smirk.

Ari on the side was in wonder of how Sin had done it but she started to understand what her mom had been saying causing her to look at the woman only to find her shocked as well.

"Then my guards...." started Sherri thinking about the Guards she had transferred out of the prison because they were having trouble using their Abilities or they began aging rapidly.

"I could apologize for it but I'm not really sorry, besides it's the fault of your corrupt system. As for the girl here, her little technique will return in a couple days." explained Sin causing Clare at the side to sigh in relief.

"Your very interesting" came the voice of the final member of the family, it was a girl with purple hair and glasses. She seemed to take more after Darwin than Sherri just from the hair alone as he noticed the staff on the girl's back revealing that she was a mage.

"A mage" stated Sin surprised.

Understanding Sin's confusion Sherri explained.

"Darwin is a mage" stated Sherri clearing up the confusion but Darwin had to add his two cents.

"A damn good one too" smiled the man in pride.

"We've gotten too far off track, Sin what happened in here" asked Sherri bringing the room back to the matter at hand.

"Just trying something" answered Sin returning to his usual self.

Sherri seemed to understand that Sin wasn't going to say any specifics of what he was doing and sighed.

"Just do it outside next time, I don't want my house destroyed again" stated Sherri sending a pointed look to the three girls.

"Come along girls supper should be done by now, that means you too Sylvie" called Darwin directing the last bit of his sentence to the mage of the three girls.

"Sin join us, it'll be good to learn about each other over a meal" called Sherri watching as Sin followed.

Ari however was thinking, though her thoughts were unknown.
