Chereads / A Super Thief / Chapter 4 - Forming the Party

Chapter 4 - Forming the Party

Sin hadn't said anything during the dinner making it a bit awkward before everyone went to bed, while Sherri and her family slept Sin had continued to tweak his gear to be better suited to him. He was a thief by birth and before his unwarranted confinement he had been rather proficient with the short sword and had a rather nasty bag of tricks but it seemed that while the Mage Lab shop had a few of his old gimmicks they didn't have the same variety that he was used to.

'Should I go on a quick run' wondered the thief before deciding against it for the time being, though if given the chance in the future he would like acquire the knowledge of how to fabricate a few of his old favorites in the future.

Sin finished tweaking his armor and it was an obvious difference having removed all the bulky material from it allowing for a wider range of movement. It was a necessity for him to perform at his best and he had even gone the distance of sew a few of the handy little utility pouches to the armor all of them within quick and easy reach.

This was how Sin spent his time after dinner before he too went to sleep.

Early the next morning he was awoken by Sherri and led to the dining room for a quick breakfast before he and Ari were taken to the Guild building to register as a party. It had taken some string pulling for Sherri to get Sin a new Guild license within the day but she had managed it somehow and now they stood at the registry window.

"Party Leader" asked the attendant scanning over the paperwork.

"Sin" stated Sin though Ari still looked displeased with this.

"Party name" continued the attendant.

"Greed" chuckled Sin thinking it would be funny as he was a thief.

"Alright, chosen Classifications" asked the Attendant shaking his head at the name.

"Rogue" stated Sin

"Warrior" answered Ari causing the Attendant to look up in surprise.

"It's you, I thought you had been blacklisted already" commented the Attendant causing Ari to growl.

"Business first, I have a lot of catching up to do" chuckled Sin interrupting the little reunion.

"You won't be catching up to anything with her in your party, are you sure you want to lock her in" asked the Attendant.

"I'm sure, besides I need something to look at while I work" joked Sin causing the Attendant to laugh causing him to lighten up.

"Ha, that's certainly one way to form a party. Here you go, your party emblems will be mailed to you in a few days. There will be some extra in case your party expands in the future, you have a good one and good luck" laughed the attendant handing over Sin and Ari's licenses.

"Hey what about the quest finder" asked Ari causing the Attendant to gasp as he had almost forgotten.

"Sorry about that, was distracted by the joke still" chuckled the Attendant handing Sin an odd device.

"What is this" asked Sin surprising the Attendant.

"Oh? You don't know about this, where have you been living under a rock" laughed the Attendant

"No, I've been in prison" cut in Sin causing the Attendant to stop his laughter as he widened his eyes.

"Just kidding" laughed Sin causing the Attendant to laugh again.

"Ha, you're a character. Wish I had more trainees coming in here with that kind of attitude, you have a good one and take it easy out there" smiled the Attendant as Ari and Sin left the Guild building.

"So what happened to the coming to the Guild building and accepting a quest" asked Sin as he was trying to figure out how to use the little device.

"Well we are still in a renaissance so to speak, everyone is trying to find the next innovation. This is just one of the smaller ones, it allows you search for quests from your location and if your party is popular enough clients can send you a personal request." explained Ari though she quickly remembered what Sin had said and glared at him.

"By the way, what do you mean you needed something to look at" roared the girl causing the people nearby to stare until some recognized the girl.

"Hey isn't that Ari" came the comment from a group not to far away.

"Still working on finding a party" asked a man stepping from the group with a laugh.

"Don't be mean, you know no one would party with her. Not with her many tales of failure" laughed a woman.

"Shut it" growled Ari causing the group to narrow their eyes with a smirk.

"Oh what are you gonna do if we don't, run to your mommy" started the apparent leader of the Party.

"Nah, she won't need to. I'll beat your ass here and now if you can't watch your mouth and then you'll be running to your mommy whichever corner she may be on" smirked Sin causing the people who had been laughing to turn to the group's leader and howl in laughter.

"What was that brat, you think your tough or something" barked the leader going for his sword only to find it gone.

"Nah, just think I'm quicker than you are." chuckled Sin twirling the Leader's sword in his hand causing the crowd to stop laughing instantly as they tried to figure out when he had taken it.

"H-how did you" gawked the Leader as he never felt it leave it's sheath.

"I'm a thief, so seeing you intent to grab it. I stole it. Though it was simply too easy and your sword just too junky" sighed Sin dropping the blade to the ground as if he had been holding trash.

"So tell me, who has a problem with my Party member." asked Sin looking to the crowd who had gone silent but hearing his words they couldn't believe Ari had gotten onto this person's party.

"That's odd, I could have sworn each of you had been speaking earlier. What happened.....Thief got your tongue" smirked Sin as he looked at each of these people threateningly causing some to cover their mouth lest this person actually take it.

"Guess it was just the wind, come Ari. We're done here" laughed Sin as he began walking away.

Ari just stared at this odd person and felt herself feel happy for once, twice he had stood up for her showing he had a good side to him contrary to his profession.

"Brat think you can just humiliate us and get away" roared the leader as the group's mage shot a spell at Sin's back causing the crowd to go wide eyed at the act but just as they were ready to scream the spell disappeared.

"Oh lovely an ice spell and a pretty good one too" smiled Sin tossing one of his odd crystals into the air before it just disappeared before the eyes of the crowd.

"Well, since you gave me a gift then it is only fair that I do the same" smirked Sin as his Magicannon showed itself but the design made the crowd look at it oddly.

"Allow me to demonstrate my own personally modified Magicannon" stated Sin with a dangerous gaze as he pulled the trigger unleashing a fiery torrent scorching the streets.

The mage beside them used another Ice spell and formed a shield which had managed to reduce the attack power enough for it to be bearable as it tore through the shield and caught the group.

"Come on Ari, we are done here. I'm done with their type" stated Sin again as the crowd split allowing him to pass freely their eyes trained on the Magicannon in his hand fearful of another pull of the trigger.

It was some time later as they were walking through the streets that Ari spoke up.

"Thank you" called the girl in shy manner contrary to her usually fiery temperament.

"For what" asked Sin knowingly.

"For standing up for me, usually only mom will. So thank you, it means a lot" explained Ari causing Sin to laugh.

"It's what a Party member is supposed to do, it mean's I got your back and you should have mine too" laughed Sin as he kept moving forward.

'That is how it should have been then too, but nothing but a group of backstabbers. I'll be seeing you four soon enough, you can count on it' thought Sin as his laughter faded.
