Sin sat with Sherri and her family with satisfied smirk, he had been successful in stealing his files from the prison and no one had even noticed he was there. He burned the files they had on him about his imprisonment, he didn't need Sherri realizing she had released a monster in human skin he would rather keep them under the belief he was the age he appeared to be.
"Sin, Darwin said that you and him had sparred earlier today. How was it" asked Sherri with a bit of interest.
"It was one sided, the guy is simply one hell of a mage" laughed Sin causing Darwin to puff up in pride.
"Don't sell yourself short, I would love to have another bout with you in the future. Truly a talented youth has rarely been seen" chuckled Darwin praising Sin in return.
It seemed that the two had built a small bond over their little bit of exercise causing a smile to fall onto the Warden's face.
"I couldn't help but notice that you seem to have found some gear, may I ask why the odd choice" added Sherri causing Sin to sigh.
"The new stuff is to clunky, I don't see how it could be called an innovation. All an Adventurer needs is enough protection to keep from being fatally injured, no need for these new armors that keep the wearer from feeling anything while being unable to move appropriately." answered Sin feeling more at ease with his secret safe.
"They are better because they don't let you get fatally injured" remarked Sherri not seeing the point.
"If you could move freely you wouldn't get hit to begin with, honestly is there no skill needed to be an adventurer anymore" sighed Sin as he recalled seeing people with missing legs still carry on by jamming a stick of would into the injury to replace the limb and then continue carrying out quests until they were ready to retire.
"You talk as if you were there" laughed Darwin remembering his younger days, he had just graduated the academy when the renaissance of technology started to take place. It was truly a god send for him and other new bloods.
"Just an opinion" commented Sin while Donovan sat at the side casting wary glances towards Sin which Clare was quick to comment on.
"Don, why do you keep staring at the kid like that" asked Clare curiously bringing the rest of the Family's attention to the returning youth.
"Mother, may I ask why have you brought a criminal into our home" asked Donovan after a moment of silence.
"Well, I'm sure you've heard about Ari's shortcomings from some of your friends or the other Parties by now. I ran out of options so I made a deal with Sin, his freedom for cooperation" explained Sherri as the others had also been curious though they already knew that much.
"I see, do you have any idea what it was he did to be locked up to begin with" asked Donovan hoping it wasn't what he thought before.
Sherri was about to speak but realized that she actually hadn't read that far into his files, she turned to Sin hoping he could speak on the matter.
"Let's not worry about the past, let's think about the here and now" chuckled Sin causing Sherri to become more curious but she would merely read the files at the prison if Sin didn't wish to speak on the matter.
Donovan didn't like that the question had been avoided but he knew he wouldn't be able to receive an answer at the moment.
"So are you excited for school to begin again" asked Sherri looking to her children.
"I am, I have already gotten all the mandated Trainee quests done so I have nothing to fear" smiled Claire causing Sin to widen his eyes at the tidbit of information.
'Mandated Quests, what the hell' thought Sin.
"Sylvie, what about you" asked Sherri
"I am looking forward to finally being able to take quests and see how I am in comparison of other's in my age group" answered the girl steady reading a book on the paranormal forces in the world.
"Ari..... sorry" said Sherri remembering that she hadn't been able to complete any quests yet.
"Sin, how about you. It's been a bit since you were able to attend the academy right" asked Sherri moving on quickly to bring the attention from her daughter.
"It will be interesting, I heard that there is an instructor named Doku there. I wish to meet him if I can" explained Sin before looking to Ari.
"How many quests do you need" asked Sin causing Ari to sink lower into her seat.
"At least ten if I wish to continue school in the same year as my classmates" muttered the girl sadly.
"When does the academy's new semester start" asked Sin cautiously as that wasn't very much to him but depending on the time frame it could be difficult.
"Next week" whined Ari causing Sin to smirk, though it was a bit strained.
"Alright, no biggie. We will have the quests completed by next week" forced Sin though he knew that with Ari with him as an amateur it would be tough but perhaps he could do some by himself and just say she was along for the ride.
Ari looked at Sin with a hopeless look before nodding weakly.
Sin got to work and quickly began searching for quests located in the same area, there was a couple but not enough to make the cut. So he looked at quests bundled in areas next to each other and though it would difficult with Ari he could take care of some while she slept he believed.
"Ari pack up, we're heading out now" stated Sin suddenly causing the table to gawk at him.
Ari stared at Sin like he was crazy, it was almost night time. Monsters would be out like crazy at this hour.
"Sin, I don't think this is a good idea. I like your enthusiasm but don't you think your being to hasty" started Sherri but Sin chuckled.
"If that is how you feel then so be it" stated Sin sitting down again causing the table to sigh in relief.
However that night while they were sleeping Sin accepted a few collection quests and ran out into the forests surrounding the city and began his hunt. He wouldn't turn them in until Ari was with him but she didn't need to know about his little night raids.
Armed with his Magicannon and his utility belt he rained hell upon the Silver fanged Wolves in the area, these wolves being a special species that always developed metal teeth capable of ripping through steel but in the face of Sin's talents they were helpless.
Similar scenes flashed through out the night as different species of monsters or mutants were slayed and harvested like livestock, Sin relished in the opportunity to try his old skills again but he was actually taken by surprise when he pulled the trigger on his Magicannon and found it just clicking with no effect.
He had only used around ten times since he began meaning that his number of rounds was twelve, but that didn't spare him from being caught on the shoulder by a nasty strike from an orc. Sin cried out as he felt his bones crush under the blow before he turned a nasty eye towards the creature that grunted in amusement until it's arm holding the club went slack and it began roaring out in pain.
"Dirty mongrel, fuck you. How do you like the feel of your shoulder getting crushed you slimy bastard" growled Sin as he began rotating his shoulder showing it was now perfectly healed.
This was something he had been wanting to try for some time, he had wondered if it was possible to rob someone else's health while transferring his injury onto them which came to him after he discovered he could rob someone's youth.
The orc however was frightened as it had no idea what had happened but it was wise enough to realize Sin was the cause of this pain.
"Counterfeit" called Sin as he placed another Skill crystal into his Magicannon.
He pointed it at the Orc who seemed to become more frightened as it picked up it's club intending to smash Sin in one move but Sin smirked as he spoke.
"Freeze" stated Sin pulling the trigger as the club neared his face but stopped just centimeters from touching.
The Orc was frozen, Sin used a new type of ammo on the brute to see how other abilities and spells would react and he had to say he was impressed.
'Think I'll start calling this Trick shot' chuckled Sin as he reached out and made a grabbing motion removing the bones of the Orc before returning the estate.
He had lost count of the number of Collection mission's he had done but he felt that it wasn't much but still it would help to meet the number of Mandated Missions.
'Good thing Ari has someone like me in her corner' thought Sin as he disappeared into the night.
