Chapter 30 - ASGARD

"Who is Asgard?" Cellon asked for me and for everyone else who didn't know.

The Great One sighed and a small wisp came out of his head as Mage Albus showed it to us.

The memory and the Great One's voice was eerie at the moment. But we have to carry on and hear it for us to understand everything.

"Asgard was one of the pillars of the magical society in our world. Together with Olympus, Duat and Sky. They built the foundation of what we have now. They were the first humans to manifest and use magic.

"They divided the world into four areas where they would govern over all mages. Olympus chose the Northern part, that's where are city resides. Duat chose the South, Sky on the East and Asgard on the West. Communication between them were constant and they shared ideas on how to run their cities to become a great one.

"After a hundred years, a huge cloud covered the whole world. The storm devoured everything it came into contact with. The most damaged was Asgard's city. He was raging mad. The whole city needs to be rebuilt from scratch and all the other pillars didn't help him.

"Of course they can't because all the other cities were ravaged by the storm as well. But theirs were just minor ones than Asgard's. Because of that, Asgard believed that the storm was a plan of the other three to destroy his city, as his was the most flourishing and the most powerful one. More importantly, Olympus was capable of creating storms in that caliber.

"The feud between Asgard's and the other three pillars started. Asgard making abominable creatures that harmed human and mages alike. The beasts we faced right now were offspring of the first creatures Asgard made. All these were taken cared of by his people.

"Soon, the Great War happened. All the Great Mages present and the pillars of the three cities faced off with the one great army of Asgard. Mage Albus was the Great Mage then of Agrissi, Oborin and I were both his commanders and we took part of that war.

"The war lasted for a month, with more casualties on our side than Asgard's. But on the last day, the three pillars, fed up of the arrogance and stupidity of Asgard, as well as the many dead mages, unleashed a mixed attack in the form of a storm and ravaged the whole city of Asgard.

"They looked for Asgard's body and struck it with their magic. Mana depletion and magic overload are two sides of the same coin. They both lead to death. While mana depletion was an eternal sleep, magic overload was a torture to the death.

"As a final assurance that he is finally dead, Sky burned his whole body. The pillars as of now are dead after creating that storm, suffering from severe mana depletion. While Mage Albus retired due to mild mana depletion. Oborin succeeded him as his mana was an endless pool and his magic was very useful. I retained as a Commander and maintained peace in Agrissi."

The story ended in that happy note but I think there shouldn't be anything happy about it. If what he said is true, then why did he see the man who destroyed grandpa's and parents' grave was Asgard?

"Then," I said. "How is Asgard there in that photo?"

"I remember that face. That is Asgard. Of how he is alive, I am not certain."

"Couldn't it be his son or something?"

The Great One pondered, "It could be. It is certainly a possibility. But as long as we don't know, we are very vulnerable. But we know now what his aim is, to destroy us all."

"But why take my dad and grandpa's body?"

"That I don't know," the Great One sighed. "We can only theorize as of now since we don't have anything against him, apart from his desire for revenge. But the pillars are dead. Oborin's and my role in the war was just to defend our fort, killing a few on their ranks. I don't see any reason for him to take his revenge on him."

I sighed. This was getting very complicated every day.

"What do we do now, Great One?" Mage Rigor asked.

"Let us continue defending our city and strengthening our barrier. Mage Albus and Mage Kira, we have to go to the Central Library to find out if there were writings by the pillars that could explain Asgard's actions."

The two mages called out nodded solemnly.

"Mage Cindy, I leave you the city as soon as we go out. Hold the fort when we get back. Ren, continue the mission but now, command them to be a six-man team. We can't afford to be far away from each other. Saving Agrissi is our top priority."

Ren nodded. And soon we were ushered out of the Council House to the silent streets of Agrissi.

Cellon and I were left in the bar while Ren and Ling rounded up all the other mages. We were supposed to prepare the place to accommodate the other mages patrolling the human cities surrounding Agrissi.

"There will be two mages with us right after this meeting, right Cellon?"

Cellon nodded and said, "Sylvia and Apollo."

"Oh, I haven't met them yet. Are they good?"

Cellon looked at me, disbelief in his eyes. His hands were twitching as he moved the sofa towards to wall.

"What do you mean with good Nina? Are they good as mages? They are very good. Sylvia is a lightning mage and Apollo is a fire mage. They are good for our attack power as Ren can cover the defense. Now, are they good as a companion? You find out."

"Hey there's no need to snap at me. I was just genuinely curious. It's my first time to talk to so many mages as I'm only used to you, Ren and Ling. I am still new to this world so please forgive me if I am very concerned about everything."

I kicked the pillow which landed to the sofa Cellon was pushing gracefully, just missing his face an inch. I walked off to the bar and grabbed a glass of tequila.
