"Sorry," Cellon said to them. "The Great One specifically didn't let anyone to know Nina's magic, except now for the team."
I smiled at them sheepishly, but I was confused. Why would the Great One hide everything about me? I mean the people of Agrissi should know their advantages.
"But why would the Great One hide such wonderful news to us in Agrissi?"
"Wonderful news? How so?" I asked in confusion.
Apollo looked at me with pity. "Has no one explained it to you yet, Nina?"
I shook my head. "Is there something more that I need to know about my magic?"
"First," Apollo said, one finger raised in the air. "Weapons Mages are very, very rare. Second, They were still alive years from the Great War. But their magic were very strong that finding a compatible partner was a challenge. Eventually, they died out. Third, they are known to be the most powerful among all mages with their infinite supply of mana."
My jaw literally dropped. Why didn't I read properly in the library when I had the chance.
"Then," Sylvia said. Gods I really love her voice. "You're here. The last one we know was the previous Great Mage. That was an era of prosperity and peace in Agrissi. Most mages were taught by him in regards to fighting. And I had the privilege to be one of his students in my younger age."
"You mean Grandpa Bo?" I said, tears brimming in my eyes. I am so proud that grandpa's legacy in Agrissi was this good.
"But then, he disappeared. And Great One Amalric succeeded him. I don't like the dude," Apollo said while rubbing his arms. "He is very scary."
I chuckled, "He indeed is."
"Now," Ren interjected to our jolly conversation thereby ruining the mood. "Let us continue."
We all looked at him angrily. But it was as if he didn't see us, he continued speaking, "So for the team training - "
"Wait wait wait," I said, having none of his theatrics. "Maybe you should introduce yourselves to us, Ren." I said his name with emphasis.
"I don't think no one - "
I cut him once again, "I don't care if no one here doesn't know you. And I don't even care if you are the goddamn Commander of Agrissi. All I want is to introduce yourself to us as what you instructed. A good leader is a good follower, my man."
I could feel Ren seething in anger. The room turned a little colder. But I don't really care. To hell with your anger, I can fight you one on one.
My teammates were suppressing their shock and laughter after that exchange while the other mages were looking at us, fearful of what's going to happen.
Cellon, after some time of controlling his laughter, conjured a healing light above Ren. The room's temperature went back to normal and Ren breathed deeply.
"Fine," he said finally albeit, there is still a lingering anger lacing his voice.
I smiled at him charmingly, "Thank you Commander."
REN
"Thank you Commander," Nina said with a wicked gleam in her eyes. Damn, what is this woman doing to me. He can flip my emotional switch in the little words she say.
I breathed again, Cellon's healing light was a godsend.
"I'm Ren, Commander as you know me. Ice Mage."
I looked at Nina mockingly. I can also play this game you're playing. She smiled widely. Holy Ice, that smile is melting me. I wanted to hold that lips.
Get a grip Ren.
"Now all the pleasantries are done. Let's go down to business. I want our team training to be thrice a week. We have an amazing lineup for attack. We need to practice that and use the most effective way for us to win every fight. Nina," I looked at her. Damn, she is so pretty.
Get a grip Ren.
"I know you can find a place for us to practice our magic away from prying eyes. Can you secure as a place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday?"
Nina bobbed her head up and down. She is so cute. I wanted to pinch her. "Yes. I have an estate a little outside the city. It's my family's rest house. It has a big enough space for us to destroy it."
I nodded. Having a rich woman in our midst is a plus. "Good. I wanted to start this afternoon. Can you secure it right now for us?"
Nina nodded. "I can. Let me just call my secretary to clear my schedule and secure the area. I'll be back." She stood up and went out, placing her phone near her ear.
I looked at the mages left and said to Apollo and Sylvia, "Just so you know, she defeated a minotaur all by herself."
I felt proud of their shocked faces. "That's our attack power," grinning widely at them. "Apollo, you use fire and Sylvia uses lightning. Imagine our power. We could be unbeatable, if we could sync our powers. That's what we should be strategizing."
Nina came back and said, "We're good to go this afternoon. I'll take Ling there first. We meet back here. It's almost noon. I'm very hungry."
Oh shit, I forgot Nina still used to eat like a human even though she doesn't need it anymore now that she activated her magic. I should tell her everything when I get the chance.
"You eat Nina?" Apollo asked shattering my resolve.
Nina looked at her disbelievingly, "You don't? How cruel."
"Mages seldom eat," and there it goes, Apollo with the many strikes he had today. I just wanted to crush him to a pulp.
"What?" Nina said shockingly.
I sighed and looked at them. "Nina recently awakened her magic and she used to live as a human. She's still adjusting, so she needs to eat for some time."
Apollo nodded in understanding.
"Good. Let's meet here in one hour."
I looked at the whole congregation, seeing that they are done in their planning. "If you are all done, you can now go and take a rest. In one hour, our duties would start. Just listen on your detection devices."
Everyone started entering on their gates. Apollo and Sylvia went back to Agrissi and Cellon and Ling and I went with Nina to her estate.
