Chereads / The Unwilling Heir / Chapter 45 - The Killing

Chapter 45 - The Killing

Two weeks past without a hitch surprisingly, I kept an eye out on Eleanor to keep her from retrieving the object under the carpet of which i am sure now is hers. She's made multiple attempts at trying to recover the lost object and each of them have been more desperate then the last. After the two weeks of obedient sitting down and doing nothing aka being grounded it was a given that everyone would go out and stretch their legs. This left me with Fox back in the room and she seemed to know I'd ask about it.

I casually walk with confident and a bit a bounce in each step to make them seem more deliberate then they already were with my hands in my pockets to the each of the woollen rug which was the centre piece of the floor.

I stopped and looked her in the eyes before bending down with a groan and taking one hand out of my pocket to push up the rug and retrieve the object from under the rug. Then I picked it up and stood up. I inspected the disturbance to my feet, the object she was trying to hide, the object I've been trying to confront her about. It was a hairpin. A standard size and of a black colour. I turned it around inspecting it. Then I looked at up at her tense expression and didn't miss the bit of saliva she swallowed.

"This, hairpin."

I said while holding the hairpin out and looking at it.

"Was used as a lock picker, you can see because of the heavy scratches on the bumps."

I paused and inspected her expression, her toes were restless and her hands had retreated to behind her back. She knew she had nowhere to escape to. But she stared at me back with serious eyes.

"So let's talk about what u did outside the room,"

I narrowed my eyes are her widening ones. She remained silent.

"Did you go outside?"

She slowly nodded once after an audible breath out.

"Did you go outside for a good reason?"

"Yes,"

She said it as if it couldn't be more obvious, also with a sudden burst of confidence.

"Then for what reason did you go outside?"

I expected an answer from this one. I need answers, not more questions.

"To stop some trespassers,"

Her head went down a fraction with her eyes narrowed and still on mine. A dangerous glint flashed across her eyes and she seemed angry. Not the reaction I was expecting.

"Where's the killing tool?"

"In the kitchen,"

I went to the kitchenette and grabbed all the knife out for a better look. Immediately I could see the one she used and owned, it was a pocket knife sitting with kitchen knives. I inspected it casually, noting the blood stains still not washed off. They were faint, but they were none the less there.

"So you did kill."

I mummered it too myself but she still heard and remained emotionless at the action. Interesting reaction. Killing is not for the faint hearted. I asked a question out of the blue that came into my head.

"Did I see you outside?"

I confused myself with that but the next answer cleared it up.

"Yes."

That dream...

"Why did the so called intruders look like the people living in this room?"

She answered after a slight roll of the eyes.

"Do they look lifeless to you?"

"No,"

I answered with a questioning tone.

"The intruders had face masks, high tech ones too, the ones that only the government have, the ones that your father designed. They were made to look like us so they could easily infiltrate the vicinity."

My father did not make those face masks, he just took the credit for them. I remember them clearly, I helped my brother make them and she was correct in the information that they were only supplied to the government.

I decided against informing her the correct information.

"Ok, another question, did you have anything to do with our missing day of consciousness?"

I suspected her of that from the beginning.

"No, the intruders drugged you when you were sleeping and I wasn't there I was outside. But that would be almost impossible to get past you people. "

"Right, our greatest weapon is ourselves. Practically almost no one can get past us,"

I was thinking about it, she was certain of the fact that we were drugged.

"Did you see the intruder?"

"Yes, I was going to tell you about it, he wasn't wearing the normal cloths to cover his appearance. He had blonde hair, a bit darker then your rare shade but the same style, green eyes, he noticed me. "

That sounded like someone, but I didn't want to believe it.

"If he noticed you then how did you escape?"

"I didn't, he came out with a knife in hand and said 2 words before leaving. Protect him."

That was it, I was sure of it. It was Elijah.

"From simple deduction skills, he meant you. Do you know who he is?"

I debated on it.

"No,"

She doesn't deserve my burden.

"Ok then,"

She looked at me, she didn't believe me. Well girl believe what you want.

"Are you two going to flirt the whole time?"

Dominic came in and gave me a glare. He then took her into his arms and she didn't mind it. Just because she didn't mind it doesn't mean it was all good. None of the previous tension left her.

"Go outside with the tigers, you need some fresh air."

"Kay,"

She went with a worried look.

Once the door closed behind her it was the worst combination left, Dominic and I.

"I told you to stay away from her, you better heed my warning Coltus."

He went for the door but I stopped him.

"What happened to you?"

"I found my life, and I'm just trying to protect it."

He continue to the door and closed the door behind himself, leaving only me in the room.
