Chapter 11 - Awake

Shaun opened his eyes to golden daybreak. You'd expect to hear the town bustling by now as people head out on their way, but it was still silent. Shaun feared the silence, it meant he was alone. Fortunately for him, Justin's snoring was so loud he knew he wasn't. He went to wake him up, and they both headed out, ready to look for clues. But first, breakfast! They went back to the train station, where the food stalls were. Freshly baked bread, potatoes, and pancakes lined the tables. They both dug in like wild dogs.

As soon as that was settled, they investigated the house they were living in. They couldn't find much other than grocery lists and receipt's. Although there was something important in the next house. A diary, all but a single page were remaining inside of it.

"Dear Sarah,

Today the most peculiar thing was brought to us. They are constructing a train station and installing a railroad in our town! Hilarious right? Hardly anyone has even heard of this place, who would even come to visit? Although I think this would bring many opportunities for jobs to the people who can't find one here... like me. Honey I know we've been in a pretty tight spot as of recently, but I promise that with this new train... maybe things can finally change.

Your loving husband," The name was cut off. "How sad... I wonder what happened to him..." Justin whispered. Shaun decided to take the notebook with him, he'd need it.

It was afternoon now, and they were having trouble finding more clues in the neighborhood. They did find a bulletin board, full of missing posters. Below the posters was another page, similar to the ones in the notebook Shaun had found. It had diagrams for the train, as well as a map that showed all of the places it went, but the names had been scratched out... something about this train seemed menacing.

The sun was setting quite quickly, there had only been 1 hour of sunlight, and the nights lastest about 8 hours. If Shaun had any hope to save Calum, he needed to take advantage and search even in the night. Little did he know of the town's darkest secret.
