Chapter 57 - The Lines Meet

The king and hero were just about to retreat when Gordan let out a bit of a sigh which made the king turn his head. Gordan opened up the sack and for a brief moment the king thought that he might return his heart but instead he pulled a small string that was attached to the heart and gently pulled it off. Suddenly the king felt magic rush back into him. He looked at Gordan with a confused expression, and Gordan smiled a bit.

"It would be a pity if you were unable to survive the battle becouse you were unable to protect yourself. If it helps think of it as a gift from your uncle, since he's the one who asked me to help you out."

Suddenly the king had a slight pang of guilt as he looked toward his uncle the General, who seemed to be speaking with the stranger about somthing. But then the king remembered that if it hadn't been for his uncle he wouldn't have gotten into this situation in the first place so he turned and went back to the army. It was clear to him that he would not be able to take it from Gordan yet, he looked over at the hero whose expression was still hallow and smiled. Even if he couldn't take control of Gordan, there was a fair chance that the hero would have a much easier time of it. He smiled with that thought and road back to his own army.

"I don't like him very much, he smells like a descendant."

The General looked at Gordan to explain what he had just heard.

"What, did you think that the Winter March just goes around killing indiscriminately? They only target a specific bloodline unless provoked."

The Genreal nodded in understanding and then looked back to the two armies which were both readying for battle.

"So what's our role in all of this."

Drake was still a bit confused as to why they needed one of the Winter March to help them, if they weren't engaging in the fight.

Gordan jerked his thumb toward a humungous beast that seemed to appear out of nowhere. It looked like a giant lizard which stood even above the trees.

"The plan is quite simple, I need Orion to target that thing while I deal with our unexpected guest. If you are interested in joining in on the war that's fine but I actually wanted you to get rid of any stragglers. After all I did say I would bring help, even if they pulled such a stupid stunt like that."

Drake and the General both nodded in understanding and shook Gordon's hand in farewell.

"Make sure you stay safe, after all you still have to avenge the fallen right?"

Gordan smiled at him the way that he had in the past when they had been allies. It gave the General a sense of closure for what ever reason.

Then Orion suddenly mounted his horse and held out his hand to Gordan, who accepted it without hesitation.

The Master of the monsters had stopped the line of monsters in shock, he had not expected anyone to be in the way of his conquest, but the surprise was soon changed with resolve, he would avenge the one's who had fallen. And it didn't really matter anyway since he planned to attack the kingdom after he got his hands on the forests resources, that way he could increase the strength of his monsters exponentially. But now it seemed that the kingdom was going to save him the trip to their location, so it was a good thing that he had decided to go with the class C instead of the weaker one that he had originally decided on. He raised his hand and his army began to move once more. As the distance between them shortend he noticed somthing in the corner of his eye. When he looked he saw that there was a other monster present that made his own look like a joke, but thankfully it seemed to be in a weakened state which would hopefully give them the advantage.

The kings army also began to charge forward toward the rather daunting line of monsters ranging in size and shape. They seemed to mostly be a form of golems but there were also many other breeds mixed in as well.

The lines met and chaos erupted. The sky was instantly filled with the sound of death as both creatures and humans cut each other down without hesitation. A thick layer of dust began to rise up from the fighting and it was at this point that a lone horse rode into the fray from the side without any hesitation, heading strait for the humungous lizard creature which was smashing through both friend and foe like they were made of glass.

Gordan dismounted from the horse a bit away from the monster allowing Orion to go deal with it at his own pace, Gordan had a different target in mind. As he walked through the dust of the battle field he listened to the screams of the dying and sighed. He didn't feel bad about dragging the army into this since it was the inevitable result from the beginning, all he had done was change the time and place. Plus it was kind of the kings problem anyway. Gordan looked down at his feet and saw a corpse with a sword sticking out of it's back, he picked it up and felt its weight before continuing on his walk.

The scent of battle was nostalgic to a degree, it reminded Gordan of his younger days when he had been in battles almost non-stop. He smiled a bit and without looking impaled the core of a gollum that was about to attack him, the black liquid which followed through them dripped onto the blade which Gordan sent flying with a flick of his wrist into the eyes of one of the small plant monsters, he flicked his fingers and the liquid emidiatly began to burn, incinerating the creature in a matter of seconds. He continued forward cutting down anything that got in his way, and then briefly stood still as he heard the sound of the monster crying out in pain.

His smile widened a bit and he quickened his pace toward the source of the monsters power, the Master.

"I can't let you past this point."

Gordan stopped abruptly in front of a small child who was wearing a magicians robe, as the dust around cleared Gordan saw that it was not a human but a vampire, which was evident by the pale skin, red eyes, and fangs.

=Sigh=

Gordan could tell that it was a newborn, that couldn't have been turned more than ten years ago. It was sad when such young creatures were sent into the fray of battle.

"I have no intention of harming your Master, I only want to speak with him, and unfortunately that means I don't have time to chat."

Without warning he burst forward grabbing the vampire by the his shirt collar lifting him high up.

"I would be much obliged if you would tell me the fastest way to get there."

His smile made the small newborn shudder and point with one of its tiny clawed hands in the direction where Gordan had heard Orion fighting earlier.

"Well that makes things easier, thank you for your help little one."

Gordan tucked the child under one of his arms and began running toward the giant lizard.

Orion was having a bit of fun fighting the rank C even with all of the interruptions that came from partys on both sides. He had kept his human image, and the result was exactly what he had hoped for, all of the foes that he faced looked at him as nearly another enemy so he didn't have to go out of his way to face any of them, right now he was just another face in the crowd. He had let Gordan off earlier since he apparently needed to locate a suitable weapon. Orion had offered to make him one but Gordan had just smiled and said that anything that he would be able to make would be to deadly for his purpose, so Orion had shrugged and let him off.

As soon as he reached the beast that he had been seeking out he dismounted and readyed his scythe. At the moment he didn't have all that much magic in him so he would be doing this on strength that he hadn't used in one hundred years, reflecting on what had happened, Frozen Tomb really did take a lot out of a person, but at least it got the job done quite well infact, so he didn't have any real complaints about it over all.

At first the beast didn't seem to notice him, and then he swung his scythe chopping off one of its legs, which got its attention fairly quickly.

The beast roared in pain and looked to see who or what had caused the damaged. Seeing the smile spread over Orion's face made the creatures eyes fill with rage and it swung its tale around to catch him. But Orion easily dogged the attack and used his scythe to slice through the tail as it was coming back around This sent the beast into a rage. Its eyes rolled back in its head and turned red, and it let out a roar which made both creatures and people alike freeze in fear. Orion slung his scythe over his shoulder and let out a sigh.

"Is that really all it took to send it into a rage? Either the quality of monsters is slipping or this one is just an exception."

Suddenly he heard the sound of someone running up beside him, and he looked over to see why his horse had not warned him.

"Well you caught up quickly, maybe I should have waited for you after all."

Gordan smiled and stopped running next to Orion.

"I wouldn't underestimate it, this is a legitimate C rank, but this particular breed relies on its regenerative capabilities more than defence. And it turned out to be for the best that I got off when I did, after all this little one was about to run into the hero."

Gordan held up the small child to indicate the object of his statement.

"That was nice of you, so how fast is the regeneration specifically?"

The creature roared again and Orion looked up to see that both the tail and leg were already regrown.

"Well it really depends, but when they go into a rage it is pretty much instantaneous."

Orion lifted the scythe off of his shoulder and smiled.

"So that just means I have to chop it up faster than it can come back, sounds fun."

Gordan laughed at the response, Orion seemed to be having fun even tough they had only just started the fight so that was nice.

"Well then I'll leave you to it, have fun."

Gordan waved and began on his search once more for the Master.
