Chapter 8 - 8 I am Hired as a Hero

The dude sat up. "What happened?" he groaned, clutching his head.

"Your System possessed you do that we could sign a non aggression pact," I told him. "The possession appears to have had some temporary side effects. However, before we continue our fascinating conversation from before, what is your name? I can't just call you moron all the time."

"My name is Spaggetti." He glowered at me. "I cannot believe my first hero summoning went this badly! What did I do to deserve this?"

I couldn't help it. I roared with laughter. He stood up, looking angrier and angrier. "What's so funny, punk? You want to..."

He looked puzzled. "What was I going to say?" That made me stop laughing. This poor sop was under his System's thumb to an extremely frightening degree. I promised myself to never subscribe to that service.

"You were about to tell me, al dente, why you summoned me here in the first place. Also, Macaroni, if you had immediately greeted me then this whole mess would never have happened, though I am grateful for the chance to become a Creator."

He looked disgruntled. "I was summoning a Hero." He pronounced it with a capital "H". "I'm running a Demon King series world, and someone had to fight the guy periodically."

"Oh? Why does someone have to fight him, and why from a different world? Just let him take over your world, and you don't have to ruin the day of some Joe Shmo from my world. Or get some hick from your world to do your Heroing. Don't tell me that among however many people in Rigatoni world, there is absolutely noone who fits your prerequisites!""

He looked sheepish. "I only have the option to summon someone from another world, not appoint someone in my world. Anyways, the other hero would be returned to his own world using the power he collected."

So he wanted free labor that got out of his hair immediately after the job was done. What a jerk.

I looked at Noodle. "Firstly, what do I get from this? I already wield awesome power. Second, this absorbing magic thing sounds detrimental to my long term health, especially since you send me off immediately afterwards like I had the plague. Have you ever checked up on your Heroes after sending them back to make sure they didn't explode or fall apart?" What a jerk!

He sighed. "This is going to take a while." He waved his hand causing the path to the castle reality to expand and popped into existence what looked like a burger restaurant. "Let's talk over burgers. That will hopefully reduce your snide comments, and keep us relaxed while I explain things."

Inside was a long row of salad bar stations, and every last one of them was filled with burgers, burger buns, and their fillings. "Was this heaven?", I wondered. The joke was intentional.

I was amenable to the use of burgers to calm me down. Especially grilled ones with lettuce and tomatoes between grilled buns. "These burgers are fantastic! I guess I shouldn't expect less from a Creator, but your System seems rather limiting. It actually wouldn't have surprised me to get hard and dry baked burgers until you levelled up our something."

He grimaced. "That's actually what happened. It's supposed to be motivation to get better at my job of running this world, but I totally agree with you. Sometimes my System is awful."

He picked up another burger and took a bite. This was a guy who believed in thick burgers. Not only was his burger thick, but he seemed to include every option with it. That made his burger six inches high! I saw his jaw expand to take a bite and shuddered. What a weird body modification!

"So, an explanation", Spagetti said, chewing and swallowing his gargantuan bite. "To start, know first that every Creator in the System has to have a unique premise in order to create a new world. One the premise is set, however, it is really hard to change in a way that benefits me. I would need to change it to something else unique, which first of all opens the previous premise for public, and second of all usually involves an Apocalypse for the current denizens of the world as the fundamental way the world works changes."

"For example, if I changed the setting of the Demon King from murderous marauding and malicious maniac to good king and leader, he would stay I'm his castle more and push reforms for demonic. The problem with that is that demons are really solidified mana with sentience, and if they gathered and became a nation, that would put too much stress on single point of the main plane of existence in my world and cause it to rupture. That's why the Demon King's fought last and why I return the Hero immediately afterwards using the accumulated mana, since that causes the most mana to be accumulated on a single point."

I grabbed another burger and stuffed the whole thing into my mouth. Having a big mouth can be a gift. "Why can't you personally change things in the world, not through the System? That won't upset your premise, and you should be able to take the mana and personally disperse it."

Spagetti looked frustrated. "If I personally descend, that creates other problems. There's an exponential increase in magical energy density for each day I descend, and my Mana Manipulation skill isn't a high enough level to reach a whole planetful of mana even without the density increase."

I gave him a look. "Ok. Let's skip over how wimpy you seem to be, and that you seem to be the one who kicks off demon generation by increasing mana density when you visit your world. You being stuck out there the past couple days probably means there's a lot more demons now, right?"

He froze, his next burger on the way into his horrifically extended mouth. It was rather comical looking. "That's a rather good point. I need to have it fixed. Please be my Hero! Lives are at stake!"

I frowned at him. "I just went over with you why I don't want to be. I get nothing for it, and it sounds unhealthy. However, if you provide me with appropriate compensation and the tune to prepare, we can make a deal. I want you to answer questions regarding what your System offers you, since I'm looking to build one of my own. I also want time to set up my own administration room and a prototype System of my own before you send me down to your world. Lastly, I want to be your friend." This overcooked noodle was running a world, and I wanted to be able to give him advice for the sake of his creations.

Spagetti sighed. "I know I'm going to regret this. I agree to all those terms, with the caveat that I can't reveal much about System abilities I haven't earned. Deal?"

I shook his hand. "Deal."
