"Hold on there," I said. "First, I don't think you could hurt me if you tried. Second, you may look around now."
I released his mind from the narrow compulsion to focus on talking with me. He dropped his sword and gasped. Huh. There are more problems with altering psyches than the obvious, but I didn't risk myself to gain this power to not use it.
"So that's why," he muttered. "You're a mind monster that can rival a god."
I sighed. "You're a moron. Did you even look around yet? I'm no monster, I've just become a creator godling like you. It seems using a sentient System can be limiting, though it's probably safer for everyone. I would prefer not to kill you, though. How about a truce?"
The other godling's body froze up, and he started speaking mechanically. "TRUCE REQUESTED. ANALYZING REQUEST. ERROR. ENFORCEMENT OF TRUCE SEEMS UNFEASIBLE."
I rolled my eyes. And now this System was able to hijack its user's body, probably without it's host realizing. Lovely.
"I don't know who designed you, but he did a terrible job with the safety restrictions." I remarked. "Anyways, if you're looking for a way to enforce it, I am willing to alter my being and any others who join my faction to be existentially unable to attack your faction without proper provocation. You would have to change your being to do the same for your members, and we should make the change contingent on both sides sticking with the non aggression pact we're making.
The System was silent for a minute. "ENFORCEMENT METHODOLOGY IS FEASIBLE. PLEASE PROVIDE THE PARAMETERS OF PROVOCATION."
I sighed. I now had to play lawyer to avoid a cosmic interdimensional war from threatening existence itself.
"Let's say an attack is something that will physically harm another creator, or wipe his creations from reality without the affected party's express permission. Our minds and souls are also off limits in the same fashion."
"Provocation would be any attempt to purposefully cause harm to the signers of the contract through direct or indirect means."
I reached again, and shouted the terms and means of enforcement, making them contingent on a mental mark being placed on a piece of parchment with the terms written out on it. I handed the resulting contract to my kidnappers body. I probably should get his name.
The System looked at the contract. "THE TERMS ARE ACCEPTABLE." The sense of the contract changed in my mental senses with the mental touch of the System. I took it back and applied my mental signature as well. Crisis neatly sidestepped.
