Chapter 1 - death is the first step to life

Hello everyone, this is my first book.

I hope you'll like it, I'm truly going to commit to it and I am having fun writing it as well.

Before you start reading, I have a personal request from you all.

For me, every reader is a friend to be made.

You're a guest in the story, a person who is invited warmly to this book.

I urge you to help me find mistakes if you see any, and I really think the best thing you can do as readers is tell me if you have questions or and doubts.

My writing is not perfect, but trust me the quality improves drastically after the 2nd chapter.

Enjoy it, and welcome to "The Dead Wizard!"

I was so close.

I spent 13 years trying to run from that wretched place and the moment I succeeded, it all collapsed. At the age of 13, dead.'

'True, I died like a rat, starving on the streets.

I might have been locked up for my whole life but at least I had food. Well, sometimes.

But to be honest, it was worth it.

God, I hated that place.

I wish I could have run away earlier, but I was never alone. '

'If not for the fire that started in the neighborhood, I wouldn't have never had the chance to escape. Honestly, I don't even know what happened to Mom and Dad...'

'Damn, It hurts. I was up in flames faster than Snoop Dog's joints.

It's been a few days now, I'm surprised I'm still here.

My stomach aches so badly.'

He curled up while numbing pain spread all over his body

'My eyes... Are closing...'

As the light faded in his eyes to grey, a golden light shone instead.

Feeling his power being replenished, his eyes opened once more. But now he was seeing the entire town from above.

The whole city lit up in front of his clear golden eyes, the innocent eyes that belonged to a small child.

"The fuck is going on?"

A voice thundered from behind him, soft but loud and direct.

"I've been waiting for someone great, but you are one of a kind... I see I made a good pick this time. Still, it is a shame I don't have the right to bless you as well. Never mind, That will come too one day."

The boy turned around with haste, scanning for the voice. Lightning and mellow thunderclaps filled the sky.

He fell and started to crawl back in fear like a squirrel running back to a hollow tree.

"Don't hurt me!"

"Stay quiet."

each word echoed like a church bell in his ears.

"You are fang, right? Fang Herz?"

"W-who are you!? p-p-please, leave me alone!"

His frantic eyes started to wander in other directions, seeking refuge, Looking to find the source of the voice.

A smooth orb of electricity formed in front of his eyes, dim enough to look at it but still irritated Fang's eyes.

The sky blurred so quickly that I didn't even notice that any change had happened. Well, until I saw my own dead body curled on the filthy pavement in the alley.

"You are dead." He heard the orb say.

"..."

"I know this is a lot, but I have more matters to attend to."

"Fang." 'The thunderous voice called, awakening my heart and mind again.'

"After living an isolated life, you got a few days of freedom. You saw the city, you saw a plane and a car for the first time. You watched so many unique faces pass in front of your eyes, so many colors. Do you regret your actions, the same actions that led to your death?"

"I... I don't know."

The collection of sparks morphed itself into a human. Well, it was shaped like one. It had the shape of a human but it was only dense lightning, nothing more. His eye sockets housed two round balls, rotating at a very high speed making them blurry and smooth.

The right eye is purple like lavender while the left is deep ocean blue.

'I felt like I'm going to piss myself. The only thing worse than being dead? Being dead and still afraid of dying.'

"I guess some introductions are in order." said the figure gracefully.

"I am Asu, the god of lightning. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Fang watched God's purple eye intently thinking he was just going crazy imagining stuff.

'This can't get any weirder...'

"A god? Yeah, and I'm the queen of England. Wait she died recently so that kinda makes sense."

"so rude. I see we have work to do..."

"Listen, I don't know what's going on here or if this is some hallucination from dying but I'm out.

I want to just get some peace and quiet alright? I've been Through enough."

There is so much I didn't see. Those old books from my father's library were my Lone connection to the outside world. I finally got to see the world and it ended way too soon!

"I'm sorry, but it is not my role. I can not interfere with the soul cycle without permission, and I don't think that wretched brother of mine would even let me. Besides, you have a much brighter future in other places."

"I don't think I can be of use to you even if I wanted to." a painful expression painted Fang's face.

"I need someone courageous enough to take risks even if it kills them like you did when you ran away after the fire.

I need a boy with the heart of a Man.

I need a leader."

"And you want... me?" He tilted his head to the side and smiled weakly. He knew it was all insane but he did stand above an entire city.

Fang's eyes sparkled for a moment empowering their golden glitter.

"Yes."

"Why?" Fang asked with a dry chuckle.

"The people who I need you to lead are a group of misfits. People who are hunted, forsaken, used, and hated. Sounds familiar?"

"I don't understand what you're talking about but can you help me get back to life?"

"I can under a certain condition."

healing that Fang's expression stiffened as he felt a migraine coming.

"Whatever it takes."

"Promise me you'll do anything to create the best group of misfits. Show me you deserve life. Give others a chance in life like I am giving you. If you do so, I will make sure you'll get your chance to learn and see a new world. I can't promise you adventures but I can sure say that Your future seems interesting. You'll build your own life on your own, and in time you'll start searching for the people who I want you to protect. Take care of them as family."

"Family... I will do my best."

"I'm glad you accepted your fate."

"I don't want to do it, But I don't want to die so let's do it."

"Then We must haste, I have more important matters to attend to." the god of electricity said and drew a glowing symbol in the air.

'What is this feeling? I turned into light?!'

"I said I don't want to die!"

But he just ignored him and continued in his weird drawing. A blinding light source enveloped his eyes, and he could no longer sense his surroundings.

"the name of your new world is Edenia. It is rich in mana but it lacks good magic users since the magic academies are exclusive to the best. Most are blessed from birth by a god, but they can't use their powers for advanced tasks."

'Did he just ignore me?! Hmm? It seems like the light fades a bit... I can see my legs now.

Well at least I'm not dead, but something in the air is different than in the city. He did mention something about a new world, right?'

When the light faded, fang opened his eyes and noticed he was standing on a grassy forest, filled with sparsely grown oak trees.

Their branches were wide and created a pattern that resembled wide, laying on each other.

The sunlight was hot and dry, but the humid forest air filled Fang's nose with the smell of a freshly cut garden. The branch's shade was partially covering the forest floor allowing only illuminating rays of sun in.

'It seems like we made it judging that we are standing in a forest. This is one majestic view though...'

Fang's eyes were widening with each moment.

For the first time in his life, he saw a stream of water cascading down a mountain, flowing into a long narrow river across the forest.

The chirping of birds was heard from afar, singing their morning song.

Near where they stood, a cave entrance was visible.

It was as wide as a car, easily fitting two people entering at the same time, and around 2.5 meters tall.

"Fang."

"Yes?"

"I can't let you become a corpse.

Promise me that no matter what, you will never give up.

You must do your best."

'I couldn't help but nod. Do I have any choice? I must do my best, I can't die again.'

"What's next then?"

"For now, remember who brought you back to life. You have extraordinary potential and the only way to pay me back for giving you a second chance is by reaching those heights."

He said calmly as thunders roared in the background.

'When did the sky darken so much? Wow, he gives me the chills.'

"Yes sir, I understand. But how do I survive on my own? I don't know anything about how to survive on my own!"

"Let's start with a mirror, shall we?"

"Why?"

Asu conjured a smooth mirror and put it in Fang's hand.

"HUH!?"
