Chapter 3 - Starting again

As the two scouts rode their black horses to the east, The deafening quiet in the forest only amplified itself.

They were under extreme pressure, going to meet their leader for the second time in their life. He is known to behead those who waste his time, so the hazard is genuine. As drops of sweat formed on their white elvish foreheads, they picked up the pace.

"Is it over?"

'It hurts a bit. I wonder how much time it's going to take.'

"Be patient. Patience guarantees quality. You do not want to lose your life this early."

Said The god of lightning as he kept maintaining his sealing spell.

"To seal a magical nature, you must block all of the frost mana entering the mana pathways in the body."

'didn't you say you're busy or something?'

"You forgot that I can read your mind, right?"

"Yes, I did..."

'That is borderline cheating... Well, he doesn't seem to be upset or something.'

"Sir, can you at least tell me what is my first task?"

"I suppose we have some time at hand. Listen closely, kid. There are mages and warriors in this world. Both have access to mana, but while mages channel mana to create and manipulate elements, the warriors use mana to strengthen their bodies."

"Going to Get to the good parts?"

"Patience kid. It has a lot to do with you. First of all, the reason I'm telling you this is that warriors are much more common and usually less adept at using mana. Do you follow?"

"You want me to become a mage instead of a warrior, is that right my lord?"

"Drop this my lord thing, I can't stand it. But yes, you are correct. A mage is more powerful than a warrior and the gap keeps on increasing when they progress in their Fields. Warriors are usually ranked by the guilds and the strongest is diamond rank. Such warriors can lead armies and kill hundreds of men in a day.

However, a simple silver rank spell from a fire mage can incinerate a small village killing around one thousand men.

The gap is this wide since mages are affected by their mana, and they become obsessed with their natures. They become a perfectionist in their art, and they can harness nature itself for their purposes, be it destruction or creation."

"so my first task is to become a mage."

"I would focus on learning how to survive first. You don't have a shelter, and it's already 13:00."

"Alright, how do I find shelter?"

'Is he forgetting I'm not some master camper? It's my first time in a forest.'

"You can find shelter at two points. Either you head to the nearest village, try your luck to find shelter with your own kind or you'll create a shelter. It might feel like it would be easy to go to the nearest village but it can be just as dangerous."

"I need to find a cave or something. Is there any way you can help me?"

"Aren't you a bit ungrateful? I have better things to do."

"Please, I just need to find a place and then I'll stop bugging you."

The trees in the forest can only be described as towers, reaching for the clouds. The forest is dense but each tree is a magical phenomenon.

"There are two caves nearby that are safe enough to live in. Food and water will have to be found on your own. The sealing is about to end soon so I need to teach you one last thing: Status."

"What do you mean by status?"

"Say open status."

"open status- HUH?!" What is that?!

A digital-looking board the size of a pillow has appeared in front of fang, translucent and 3-D looking. On the board were written words in an unknown language, enchanting and wooden-looking... but at once, they all started blurring and bent themselves to a more familiar language.

"I thought it would help but I guess some more explanations are in order. In short, this screen can help you see your progress in terms of mana capacity and health capacity. The amount of mana and health regeneration is written, too, and is determined by your physical and mental training.

The more mana you use, the more you'll be able to utilize it in the future and Regenerate.

And the same for health points."

"what is LUC, INT, AGI, and all the others?"

"LUC is luck. It mainly contributes to drop rates from monsters and the general quality of those drops. LUC can contribute to your daily life as well but it is not as effective as in drop rates and such.

INT stands for intelligence, the main stat for mages and those who pursue the arcane arts. INT will expand your mana pool while giving you the option to control more spells at once.

AGI is for agility, one of the main stats for warriors and mages as one. It will determine your speed and stamina.

WIS is for making new spells and understanding the mechanisms behind the spells. Wisdom will affect your rate of learning and the handling of new spells.

VIT is for your health regeneration rate and maximum health. Think of it as the main stat for your survival.

All of those are the qualities that matter to the world. Raise those, and you'll be able to achieve more. simple enough?"

"It's a lot of information, but yeah I think I understand it."

"let me see your stats."

As Fang got up, he suddenly realized that time was passing quickly.

"It's getting closer to nighttime... it's almost 4, isn't it?"

"Yes, it is. The cave is 300 meters away from here so you can get there yourself.

But, I will leave you one last gift."

A book suddenly materialized in his hand looking old and dusty. In the book, a strange symbol and the word "dictionary" in English was written on it.

'"An English dictionary?"

"the language of the elves, to be exact, humans use other languages, and the other races have their way of communicating as well. Don't worry about it, focus on finding food and water."

"Thanks for everything until now; I will make sure to be strong enough when you need my service."

"I will remember that boy," said Asu as he disintegrated into sparks, leaving Fang with a book, a new body, and a handful of wise words to guide him.

"thank you, I will make sure to repay you one day."

'I will have to get to that cave. fast.'
