Chapter 4 - A mistake

4.

I swear, I really thought I had the strength to wait. As the long boring hours at Folks stretched on, the clock by the wall seemed to slow down. Why the hell, was I in a school for the gifted and the supernatural? At first, it all sounded all nice. But I was fooled. Keera Elite School was just a boring normal school. It had no wizardry or exciting students. First of all, the school was almost empty. There were like fifty students so far when I attended the opening ceremony. My class had eight terrible brats ranging from thirteen to seventeen. I was the youngest. Well, that piece of information was not public—yet.

"Miss Cullen quit daydreaming," cut the annoying voice of Miss Parks. "The board is over here not out the window," she snapped. Smirks appeared on my classmates' faces. Just my luck. I'm getting singled out on my fourth day at school already.

"If your maths class wasn't that boring I wouldn't be distracted," I muttered as I shifted in my seat to face forward.

"What was that?" she lowered her gaze to stare up at the rim of her rounded glasses perching up her crooked nose. Damn, she was a caricature of the pain-in-the-ass English teacher. Which unfortunately she was not. Maths was my nightmare.

"Nothing, you must have very bad hearing," I said as I pushed a stray lock away from my face. A front-row guy looked up at me with a frown. I couldn't recall his name. The way he glued his dyed grey hair away from his face, clearly hinted that he was rich and probably an asshole.

"She said that your lesson is boring her to death," he said aloud with a sharp edge. My suspicions were real—he was an asshole.

"Miss Cullen! Detention at three!" shouted Miss Parks. "Thanks, Mr. BeauChamps," she gave him a creepy smile. I internally rolled my eyes. The guy had to be rich and famous to have a teacher suck up to him. The bell rang and I gathered my books and slammed them in my canvas bag. As I headed to the corridor the girl seating next to me hurried after me.

"Don't mind Beauchamps, he is a jerk," she smiled then extended her hand at me. "I'm Reka—Reka Singh," she had mate skin and beautiful shiny black hair that went down her hips. I shook her hand with a shy smile.

"Renesme," she rose her eyebrows on hearing it. "Yeah, sounds weird, right? Mom kinda lumped both my grandmas' names together. Very unoriginal," I exhaled making her laugh.

"Quite the contrary. I like it. Not a very common name. Sorry for the detention though," I shook my head. Why was she sorry, it wasn't her fault. When I looked back up I detected an uneasiness around her. So, I probed her thoughts. I knew Dad told me not to do that without permission. Who cares if Dad wasn't around? She jumped back with her face a little pale.

"What—?"

"You have a bad habit of talking back and now, you just invade people's minds?" said an irritating voice behind me. I quickly turned around to find—yeah, right. Mr. asshole standing there.

"Does my existence bothers you?" I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Actually, it does. Vampire bastard!" his lips curled up in disgust.
