Chapter 8 - Pizza man

8.

I ran to the door giggling as I grabbed my wallet from the table by the door. Since we were expecting our pizzas, I've left it there for easy access. I tugged on the knob with a smile, but it soon faded when I gaze at the tall looming figure standing in front of me. Jacob was behind me in a second, growling in a low menacing voice. The sound reverberated in my very bones.

"Hello, my child," said the man with pale paper-like skin, his crimson red eyes peered at us with deadly intent. Vampire. But not any type. He smelled old. Very old. Jacob wrapped one arm around my waist ready to pull me out of danger. I lay a hand over his arm to cease my shaking. Each time I felt uneasy he found a way to calm me. The stranger followed where our skin came into contact.

"What a pity?" his tongue rolled on the words. He was not from here. For that, I was certain. He tilted his head to the side, his black greasy hair was glued flat over his skull. It poked in angry spikes at the collar of his cream shirt with a heavy dusty-looking cloak pulled shut with a belt around his narrow waist.

"Who are you?" said Jacob each word full of threat. His eyes never left mine. I was starting to feel sick. Dad told me that vampiric eyes had no effect on me. Whatever trick or mental illusion couldn't affect me. I've inherited that part from Mom. However, right now I felt sick. Nauseous.

"I don't speak to dogs," said the stranger. My legs were shaking. Who was this guy? "I need to speak to the Cullens," he managed to make it into a question. I gasped feeling faint. Still, I couldn't look away.

"Re, are you ok?" Jacob gave me a slight shake. The man at the door smirked in his panic. He turned his gaze at the stranger standing on the doorstep. He flashed his teeth at him. I felt Jacob's muscles work under his warm skin ready to shift. My breath came out labored. I knew I had to stay clear when he shifted.

"What did you do to her, bloodsucker?" for the first time he turned his attention to Jacob. His smile dropped.

"Keep your dog on a leash, my child. I don't want to hurt it," he paused then turned back to me with a smile, "and you in the process," Jacob pushed me to the side and I was able to evade crashing into the wall thanks to my speed. He leaped towards the man.

"Jacob!" shouted a familiar voice from the front lane. I sprung around gasping, there stood Mom and Dad, eyes blazing with fury. Oh, shit! The stranger released his grip on the dark-brown wolf's throat. He limped to the side and I rushed towards Jacob, brushing his fur.

"Are you ok?" the wolf's angry eyes softened around the edges when they met mine.

-I will be ok
