Chapter 2 - Chapter 2- Anubis Is Not A Novice

Walking along the trails in the forest I eventually came upon the trail I took when I had run away from my new monster. Anubis however seemed to not recognize a thing. "Hey system, by any chance when you killed Anubis did you take his memory from him?"

"Sort of host. I did take some of his memories such as things that could cause him to be territorial to the forest that way he would leave with you peacefully. I also erased memories of him eating people so he has no current want to do so. Still as a monster he can easily gain a want to do so if you let him eat people in the future. Other than things like this that keep you safer I have not touched his memory."

"Doesn't that lower his wisdom score though," I asked in seriousness.

"That's correct host, but I needed the points from that score that was taken to heal you and restore my power enough that I can freely talk to you."

Understanding the point of this I still shivered in a bit of temporary dread as I knew the system likely had the ability to make me lose all of my memories and make me into a puppet. Strangely enough that little thought gave me a bit of trust in the system as I didn't believe that it would betray me anytime soon as it needed me with my memory for something.

Putting my thoughts to the side I watched as I finally made it to the place I have been trying to, New York. Well what was left of it anyways. Walking to the sectioned off part of the city I avoided zombies that seemed to be crawling everywhere. Looking at Anubis I wondered how I could hide him for now so that I could sneak by most of the zombies. Then I remembered that his was originally stuck in the watch so I pointed the watch at him and I watched as he seemed to fade into numbers. Looking around carefully I whispered to my system another question, "Hey system if I summon Anubis and send him away am I able to put him back in my watch when he's not in my sight?" Seemingly in approval the system decided to respond.

"You can have him anywhere within a radius of the host currently at 100 meters away. To get him farther away you need to buy the permission to do so from the system shop." Scratching my head at how to use this information I decided to ask something else, "Hey system what is so special about this shop that you have?"

"Well host, the system sells upgrade tokens, skill tokens, evolution tokens, and even items from swords and grenades to clothes and food. The most important part of the system's shop however is that you can buy any creature in existence and not yet in existence as long as you have enough points."

Listening calmly to it until I heard the last part I realized how the apocalypse came to be if the system was true in what it said earlier. "System can you tell me what upgrade tokens are I can assume from the names of the other two that they evolve skills a monster has and cause the monster to evolve into a new higher more powerful creature.

"Host you are correct about skill token's allowing the user to upgrade a monster's skills, but the evolution token does more than only evolve monsters into a new species. It also can evolve items into a new more powerful form. It can do this by enchanting, enhancing, or doing other methods to increase that item's power. Upgrade tokens are something only you can see though host. These are tokens that basically train your monster without you needing to spend time to do so. A skill tree based menu will pop up when you use these, but you can fill all branches of the tree instead of only one path like certain games were portrayed in your history class."

Understanding what they were now, I decided to make my way back to the gates and not worry about how the system new what my memories were. Sneaking around a few buildings that were less used by people as zombies were attracted to the aura of people and their life force I grew surprised when I realized it was completely silent where I was. I knew from classes that no matter how often a path was used. Once it was used zombies would be on that trail no matter how few their were. "Send Anubis out behind me," I commanded the system as I knew it wasn't a time to be careful around it. I knew that my life most likely was in danger.

Taking a slow and steady breath I continued to walk forwards for another couple of feet. Deciding I didn't like the feeling anymore I was getting ready to turn when I saw a knife flying towards by head. Immediately Anubis pushed me sideways slightly, and caught the knife in it's jaws where it then crunched it in half like it was a piece of candy. "Attack the enemy Anubis I commanded as I quickly as I could while I took the fall caused by Anubis and used it's momentum what little it was to dodge into a building that was on side of a street. Hearing a few Curse words at my temporary escape the man, which I could tell from the voice, ran after me. To bad for him he underestimated Anubis as he thought it was most likely a Novice ranked beast as they are more common for people of the age of 16.

Realizing his mistake when the beast managed to catch up to him in a couple of seconds he swore and threw another hidden blade towards the monster chasing him. This time it was as hard as the man could. Showing his strength and accuracy the blade managed to reach the wolf's face and scrape it's cheek. Thankfully as a being that makes its flesh using dark matter it was immune to this damage. The only way to hurt Dark Matter Beasts while not being a person or monster that uses light after all is to break completely the skull bone in the head.

Cursing his luck the man started running away from Anubis and me and escaped into the distance. Standing their I was left wondering why he had attacked me. Thinking about it for a second I finally figured it out or at least in my opinion I did as it was a known fact no matter how weak a summoner was they were usually rich. I was of course an exception to this as I had just "Awakened" (Used System). Putting off these thoughts I ran away getting on the back of Anubis whether I fully trusted it or not and got it to run with me holding on to it towards the castle. I had to get their as quickly as possible before the Zombies in the area came.
