Running into my mothers bedroom my emotions burst out in a natural barrier of killer instinct, something honed by almost everyone in this cruel, cruel world. Looking at the man who I had already seen twice now I had it with him and looked behind me into Anubis' eyes. "Kill the man that's attacking my mother. I don't care who it is as long as they come close to hurting people close to me I will destroy them with every one of my options available." The somewhat smart beast hearing this seemed to preen in joy asking me with a turn of its head if it could also eat the man. Smiling I gave a nod in complete allowance to do so.
In only a second the beast was upon the man who was already running out the door forgetting to finish of my mom in his hurry to escape. Rushing to my moms side I looked her over in worry to see if she was hurt. If I was in the mood for it I would have laughed at the situation as a child was the one worrying like a mother hen over his mother. Finding that she was overall fine and that she only had a couple of bruises on her I stayed their with her and made sure she could calm down from almost loosing her life. I looked at her trying to convince us both our family would be alright.
.After around twenty minutes Anubis came back with a head of a person I recognized after seeing that I knew who it was for sure he took it into his mouth and swallowed it with a gulp. The action of course unfortunately scared my mom into passing out from first having her life almost taken and then seeing a wolf based monster again after her husband's tragic death. Laying her down on her bead properly with a bit of struggle as I didn't want to hurt her worse I stayed by her bead watching over her. "Anubis I thank you for what you did today. If you hadn't been there with me I would have lost my mother. So even if I was previously hesitant in fully trusting you both I have decided to fully trust you both." 'After all I'm not an ungrateful person.'
"Lottery Draw Gained- I wish to thank host for declaring his full trust in me. Looking into the host's emotion I am able to tell he has not lied about this and as such I gift you this free lottery draw. This and Anubis are the only two free gifts you'll get. The rest you need to earn yourself."
Looking at the system's message for a second in surprise I smiled in response and went to the only logical place to use the lottery. "Shop." Waiting for a second another screen popped up and this time it had a wheel on the side that I recognized as a lucky chance based machine right away. Going to it a clicking spin I watched as it slowly made it's way around. Around and around the wheel went eventually stopping after 20 seconds.
"Host has unlocked Shadow claw skill book."
Smiling at the idea of getting to use it I opened the book that had appeared only to see a single line of text inside.
"Only usable on a monster that host owns that has a darkness attribute."
Looking at Anubis I sighed in a bit of disappointment yet truthfully it wasn't that much of one. After all I could still use the skill, I just used it through a monster instead like other summoners naturally would. Putting the book in front of the wolf I watched as he put his nose on it knowing what it was. Watching as the book flashed and went out of existence I looking into the eyes of Anubis that seemed to now be smarter, even if only slightly. Waving my hand with a smile he disappeared completely just like the book, but at least this one was gone permanently.
It took two hours for my brother to get home. He ran into the house and to my mom's bedroom just like I had earlier seeing signs of a fight that occurred he looked at mom and calmed down. "How's she doing Little?" Looking him in the eye I waved my hand summoning Anubis, pointed at him then my mom, and after that I pointed at the fight, Anubis, outside and than at my mom. Finishing my silent explanation I waved my hand, and made the wolf vanish just like a mirage. Understanding roughly what happened he gave me an order. "While I wait on mom to wake up go outside and catch the man responsible."
"No need brother," I said with my lowest whisper in helplessness as I had wanted mom to sleep without any noises disturbing her. "My familiar had already caught the man before he even got a hundred meters from the house. He took a couple of minutes to get back, but that was because I let him eat most of his body." My brother hearing this couldn't help the smile and a bit of pride he felt at the idea of me being able to handle this even if its as a summoner who relies on other creatures.
Walking out of the room leaving my brother their to make sure mom was okay I went over to my room and summoned Anubis to watch over me. Laying on the floor of the room in happiness he laid next to my bed and stayed still watching for any other threat who came for me. Slipping off to sleep I couldn't help but wonder if today had been nothing but a dream with all the wonderful things happening around me.
Hours upon hours passed waiting for the chicken to crow. And when the world held their breath for it not to happen it did so. Getting up from my bed I looked over at Anubis in relief knowing that yesterday had not been just a long and strange dream, yet thinking about my mom I wished parts of yesterday had in fact been just a long and strange dream. Walking out to the kitchen desummoning Anubis I made myself breakfast as well as some other food for my mom once she woke up.
Sadly I knew my brother had already left us as he needed to go back and guard the gates. Waiting for a while in peace I heard someone walk into the kitchen. "Hey mom, how are you feeling?" Looking me in the eyes she slugged her shoulders in a bit of defeat just showing us how today was going to be one of them long, long days. "I'm not having to bad of a day, I'm more worried about you. How did you lead that wolf away? Did you get any injuries yesterday?" Smiling to make her feel better I slowly answered her questions making her feel better until the time of the wolf came up.
At first she wanted to hit me for using a wolf based monster, but slowly calming her down to consider it reasonably and not with the emotions from dad's murder she finally allowed me to use the dog. "I don't care if you use it, but try to keep it at a minimum while were here at our house." Giving my consent I left the house to go do a job at the adventurers guild. Thankfully I didn't need to do anything about the assassin as I knew my brother would take care of any partner that could have come along with him. Any guard of the country after all when telling what happened inside the city can be given help if it's right to do so like in this case. So with a wave goodbye I made my way to what would hopefully be a peaceful day.
