Let's move on to after school on her first day of school that Friday.
She picked her things up and dashed out the door of the classroom to catch up to Santos. Her shirt has finally dried and she needed to return the jacket. She didn't want anything to do with this guy.
She had just been sitting next to him but now he was nowhere to be found. She looked at the jacket hanging from her arm deciding what to do.
It was too bulky to carry and it had his name stitched on the left side she didn't want people to think wrong if they saw her wearing it.
She pulled the jacket on and covered the name with her book bag.It was a pretty cold afternoon, you can't really blame her for wearing it.
"Good afternoon Mr. Rogers!" she yelled as she ran upstairs to the small apartment her and her older brother shared. She needed to unpack boxes and fix up before her brother got home from work.
She threw her bag on the ground next to the door and got to cleaning the small apartment. Two rooms, a bathroom, a small living room and a kitchen.
What was meant to be the most exciting part, her room. The gray sheets with fur pillows, desk and she had to buy the rest. They had left everything when they left, thankfully the landlord had understood and offered them the beds and desks.
She should be happy they were fine now. She had put the few clothes and shoes she had away. Yet there was still a box marked with her name.
She pulled it to her bed pulling out the metal bat that stuck out. It was old and scratched everywhere. She remembered the first time she had used it, scared and forced to do something she didn't like.
The sound of the front door woke her up from her memory. She pushed the mattress and put the bat between the headboard and the mattress running to welcome her brother.
It was late and they where cooking dinner when suddenly there was a loud knock at the door.
"I'll get it!" her brother ran to the door opening it as he started a conversation with the person.
After a while Tokyo couldn't hold back her curiosity and finally asked who it was.
"Its the neighbors they came to welcome us."
She hurried to put the plates on the table and remove the snacks from the coffee table.
"Tokyo come greet the guests! They brought banana bread, your favorite. She said her son likes it too, maybe you can finally make friends."
With a bottle of sauce still in her hand she ran to the living room and there she stood dumbfounded. At least until she dropped the bottle to the ground.
"Fuck!... Sorry Ma'am it just scared me." she bent down to pick up the pieces of glass from the floor.
"Ayudala hijo. Its fine honey, my baby curses all the time too."
"Baby.." she mumbled while laughing and looking at Santos who kneeled down next to her.
"Tokyo that was the last bottle of sauce we had and we need it for the food. I'll go get one from the store, its just two blocks away if you don't mind waiting Ma'am." her brother said putting on his shoes.
"We can wait its a Friday night after all." she was helping clean the sauce off the floor.
"I'll go, you just got home from work." she found this was a good excuse to get away from here.
"No, its already dark out you can't go your a girl." he knew his sister well and for that exact reason he couldn't let her out.
"My son can go with her if you want to. He doesn't mind, do you baby?" we can't blame the lady she read the situation wrong but had good intentions.
"Yes momma, I'll go with her..." he paused like he was about to say something but instead stayed quiet and walked to the door.
Great and she was now alone with him and had to return the jacket. Then she remembered she had it in her bag, she could return it right now.She casually opened the bag next to the door and sneakily hid it in her arms.
"Bye!" it was better if they acted like they had just met, after all they didn't really start off on the right foot.
