"Here take your jacket back." she threw the washed jacket at him.
He seemed to not know what it was at first. Then he put it on and kept walking
"So Princess, its just you and your brother?" he was lucky she was shorter than him or she would've smacked him.
"Yeah, my dad lives far away and my mother passed away." she hadn't lied she had just left some parts out.
"It must suck. Whats someone like you doing with a name like Tokyo?" he wasn't wrong she was part Latina.
"My dad was the one that named me he wanted something different. He's asian and my momma is mexican. They met here and had me.Sorry, you just asked about the name." she had gotten too into it.
"No, its fine."
He wasn't acting the same way he was acting at school. He seemed nicer and calm was this really the same guy she had met earlier?
"Why are you acting different than you did at school?" she always let her curiosity get the best of her.
There was a long silence after her question. She shouldn't have asked it was his problem how he acted.
"I don't want them thinking I'm weak. That's why I got mad when you talked back, no one had ever done that and if they did they would get a beating." he looked down after he finished.
"Why did you let me go so easily?"
"What , why didn't I beat you up? I'm a gangster not a monster I wouldn't beat a woman, not now or ever. My jefa taught me different."
"You know you don't seem so gangster to me.You act like any other guy I met at my old place." her old place the one she had to leave.
"Just because I don't go shoot something up every five minutes doesn't mean I'm not gangster. Now go get the bottle." He opened the door and she hurried to pay.
He had stayed by the door and now talked to some guys. She wasn't sure if she should go up to him or not. Would he be embarrassed if she did?
Still thinking about what to do he looked at her confused. I guess it was okay for her to go.
"I got the sauce. Can we go its cold." she had walked out of the house in shorts and a thin shirt.
Still listening to the guy talking he took of his jacket and put it on her. She had just returned it and now she was wearing it again.
"Damn dude, is this your chick?" one of the guys he had been talking to looked at her as if inspecting her.
"No we're just neighbors." he turned her around to face him and started buttoning up the jacket to cover her up.
"Just neighbors... You seem pretty over protective to be just neighbors." he new Santos pretty well to know he was acting weird.
"Her brother told me to take care of her.I got to keep my promise and take her home safe. Now we gotta go vato see you later." he shook the guys hand and he pulled Tokyo out of the store.
He didn't talk for a while until she pointed at a moving bag on the ground.
"What is that?Don't touch it." a little too late. She bent down and untied it.
Out came rolling a little english bulldog. She tossed the bottle of sauce at him and picked up the dirty little puppy.
"Its dirty put it down. Wait, who would throw away and English bulldog, they cost thousands." he took a closer look at it.
"It has a cleft palate, look at its lip. They knew it wouldn't survive if they didn't take I to a vet." she looked at the shaking puppy in her hands and started walking.
"What are you doing?" he followed behind her.
"I'm taking it home, we're allowed to have two pets. Besides I always wanted a pet." she held the shaking puppy at a distance to not touch Santos jacket.
"Wait..." he pulled his jacket to stop her.
"You know I'm taking it no matter what right." she thought he was trying to make her leave it.
He pulled her closer and took a handkerchief from his pocket wrapping the puppy and giving back to her to hug and the two walked home.
Was this really the same guy she had met at school? She didn't believe it.
