Chapter 6 - The Meeting

Helia took them to the 'meeting room'. There was a large circular table at the center. The five of them sat at the table. After a dead silence that seemed like it lasted a year Helia spoke up. "I am Helia. I am the assistant for the school. You four were tested to see if you could become the group of mages that we are hoping to train. What I am about to tell you must remain an absolute secret from everyone, including the nobility. The war that occurred 500 years ago never ended. The demons are still roaming freely. Their forces number in the millions. Countries will hire mercenary-like groups known as adventurers to take care of some of the wandering forces. This part has been released to the public, but all of the countries agreed to keep the fact that the demons number in the millions a secret.

Marc spoke up screaming, "Wait, are you saying the kingdoms lied to the people in order to keep the peace and prevent riots.?" He got the response that he was dreading to hear. "Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. Now please let me finish. The countries are assembling the gifted of the world to fight the demons. You have been selected to be this countries 'gifted'. You each have skills far surpassing that of the standard mage. We ask all of you to fight on behalf of this country, no all of humanity."

Marc scoffed at the idea, Iris looked only slightly more interested, and Amary was sitting in her chair with a look of worry on her face. This was supposed to be humanity's hope? Seeing their reactions Helia smiled and said, "Of course you will be heavily compensated." The four children looked at her; she had their undivided attention. "You will have access to classified information, have your own titles, and live a life of luxury. If you agree to these terms stay here, but if you don't leave. Obviously either way you are prohibited from speaking a word of what happened here."

No one left. After what seemed like an hour the principal walked into the room. "Sorry I'm late. I assume none of you want to leave?...good! " He walked over to Helia and sat next to her. "You won't fight for a while. After all you are still children. You will continue to attend this school officially. Unofficially you will be trained to work together a four man team. You are all dismissed for today. We will meet back here tomorrow."

That night she lay in bed thinking about what had happened that day. Would she have to enter THEIR world and fight monsters? 'I never signed up for this. I just wanted to live a peaceful life! Can't someone else fight?' She wouldn't be able to live as peaceful of a life as she had hoped. As she lay in bed contemplating what she did to get herself in such a situation, she fell into a restful slumber.

The next day she entered the meeting room. After waiting a few minutes the principal entered covered in soot, probably from another failed experiment. He sat down and acted as if this was perfectly normal. "Hello everyone, we will be practicing combat training outside. If you are to fight in the future you need to know how to fight without magic. Never focus your training on only one aspect. Also, I'm sure you've been wondering about Ms. Strondom, right? A grimoire is a magical book. Most adults have trouble reading a single page from the most basic of grimoires. If one reads to much the grimoire will cause them to go insane or die. So, how did a five year old manage to read a whole book? We don't know." At this everyone was dumbfounded. Why did he act like he knew what he was talking about if he really didn't?

"Everyone of you will work as a four-man team. In order to do so I will reveal all of your talents to the other. This may seem like a bad idea, but if all of you know each others weakness you wouldn't want to betray them for fear of losing. Filia Atmos Strondom: age 5, talent in every magical class. Has the unique skill of 'Mana Vision'-The ability to see and manipulate mana. Has above average knowledge and intellect." The other three all looked wounded. She was so powerful at a young age. She is truly fit to be a princess of nobility. "Marc Handsworth: age 6, talent in fire magic and life magic. A truly rare combination, as those with fire are fierce and those with life are very caring." Marc looked devastated and became a tomato. Filia having been reincarnated knew exactly what he was, a 'tsundere'. One who acts mean on the outside but truly does care about the ones they love.

"Amary Zerston: age 5, talent in water and air magic. Shy, and not fit for the front-lines, but perfect for support. Finally, Iris Silverstine: age 5, talents in earth, life, and hex. He has studied spacial magic as well. Suitable for vanguard."

"Okay, now that you all know each other. Let's go outside."
