Chapter 24 - The Night With Them

It stayed in the back of Wu SuYi's mind, like a ghost that haunt her, forever. In her childhood, the back of her leg would often be filled with scratches. It would be normal for children to have their legs filled with small injuries as they would often run around to have fun, stumbling a little here and there with their never ending energy. But the wounds staying on her legs located in the back of her ankle.

Her aunt, would always smile while saying the same words to her, "This isn't a punishment, SuYi. It's a lesson to teach you. In Wu Family, you are our only flaw. It's up to your skill now to make you fit in this family. To become one of the perfect humans here."

Wu SuYi looked at Aunt Liu after the woman had brought up one of her deepest scar. "The perfect human happens when you lie down coldly inside a coffin. Why? Because by that time, you would leave nothing but a pure body without your ugly soul. A perfect human should have a pure white soul, don't you agree?"

Aunt Liu gulped and seeing the fear that cause the woman to tremble under her, Wu SuYi composed herself, pulling herself together. She had always let herself be as cold as ice, not wanting others to affect her emotions, but when she thought Rui had to go through what she felt, she couldn't hold her anger any longer.

She looked at the woman, "No child would be happy to be hurt. If I do the same to you, wouldn't you cry like a baby? Then why do you think Rui wouldn't be in tears after what pain you put him to? How long have you hurt him?"

Aunt Liu who was cornered couldn't find a way to escape any longer, "S-Since the second week he stayed with me."

Han XiGuang's hand cracked again, "Three months." He translated the words. "Now I know why my housekeeper kept quiet. You threatened everyone, didn't you?"

His eyes glared in a red glint when he looked to the woman. Pushing himself from his seat, Han XiGuang fixed his suit. "It would be best if we leave now, SuYi."

Wu SuYi was confused as she knew there was more question to ask, or perhaps not considering how the woman's intention was clear enough that they didn't need to question more.

"I can't guarantee nothing wouldn't happen if I continue to stay a single more second here, listening to all your bullshits," Han XiGuang stated. His eyes had turned colder as if what stood in front of him was his nemesis.

"Wait! Xi Guang! What would happen to me?!" Aunt Liu screamed in fear. Her expression was of a person who finally understood everything she had build had fallen off into pieces.

Wu SuYi looked at the woman, placing her hand to her shoulders and in a slow motion tightened her grips, "Pray that you won't stay your entire life in the prison because that what I would endeavor to do."

Han XiGuang smiled hearing her words, even though he was enraged that words couldn't begin to describe, hearing Wu SuYi's threat made him feel happy in regards how she didn't take it lightly when handling Aunt Liu.

As they re-entered the car, Han XiGuang started the car and Wu SuYi unconsciously kept on staring at him until their eyes met when he turned his face toward her side. Embarrassed, Wu SuYi smiled awkwardly, "Do you always drive your car alone?"

Back then and also now, Han XiGuang most oftenly bring the car himself which wasn't weird per say, but most people would have a chauffeur, thought Wu SuYi.

"I enjoy riding the car myself," Han XiGuang replied with a smile as he looked forward to the path, the corner of his lips fall a little from its side, "Also, having someone else riding the car is a little traumatizing for me."

"Traumatizing?" Wu SuYi questioned his words.

"I have a little fear about giving my life in others. Inside a car, you let people to control your life, either to die or alive. Does it make sense to you?"

Wu SuYi nodded her head slowly.

"I'm strange, aren't I?" He asked.

Wu SuYi shook her head at once, "People have their own fear. I also have one like all others across the world."

Hearing her comfort words, Han XiGuang couldn't help but felt more attracted to Wu SuYi, staring to her lovely face more longer than he thought he would ever do to others.

"That's true. Was your fear to be forced as a perfect human?" Han XiGuang twirled his finger on the air a little. "You appeared to take it personally what that woman told you earlier."

Wu SuYi rubbed her cheeks a little. Perhaps because she rarely let others saw her expression, she felt embarrassed that someone had seen her loosing her cool.

"More than fear, I would say it's a sore spot in my heart. When I was younger, my family—" Wu SuYi's lips pursed when she realized it was her first time to tell others about her family after leaving the house. "—well, my family are people filled with people similar to aunt Liu. They prioritize the family's name more than anything, expecting others to be perfect."

Han XiGuang's eyes twitched and his eyebrows knitted tightly when he frowned, "You can refuse to answer my next question if you feel uncomfortable. But what happened to Rui… the abuse, did that happened to you too?"

Wu SuYi looked away a smile that was faint appeared on her lips. It wasn't a smile of happiness but rather out of spite, "That's why I was a little out of my character when I saw how unremorseful she was."

Han XiGuang appeared to have more question he wanted to ask her, but as if sensing Wu SuYi's hesitation in revealing her past, he didn't want to probe into wounds that might not healed yet inside her.

It was soon when they arrived back to the hospital. Right as soon as they exited the elevator to the floor where Rui was, they both could hear a loud cry that instantly alarm them.

It was Rui's crying voice.

Han XiGuang at once rushed to the place where he heard Rui's voice from. When he arrived to the door, a nurse looked in panicked as she tried to coax little Rui to her arms. The tears dribbled faster when he saw Han XiGuang running to the door.

"Father!" Rui screamed in tears. "Don't leave me!" Came his heart-squeezing plea.

Han XiGuang's face was filled with shock as he took Rui back to his arms, gently coaxing Rui by patting his back. "It's alright, I'm here. I won't leave you."

Wu SuYi who stood beside Han XiGuang, saw the sweat that lightly veil his forehead. When shock settled on his face when he heard Rui's crying tears, Wu SuYi could felt his sincere fright upon hearing his son's cries.

Rui's fingers slowly grasped to the side. His large eyes stared at Wu SuYi who stood beside his father as if trying to call her.

Her heart melted on his request and with gentle motion, Wu SuYi carried Rui to her arms, hugging him dearly. "Shh, don't cry. We won't ever leave such a lovely child like you, Rui. I will stay here until you go back to sleep."
