Chapter 1 - Awoken

Lucinda

It all started the day i woke up in a cold darkness. I couldn't remember my name, my friends, or who i was. The forest floor was cold, the dew stuck to my skin, that was revealed slightly too much from my torn clothes. I sat up, my head was empty. Only small thoughts crossed my mind.

Who am I, where am I?

I stood, observing my surroundings, only seeing trees which cast a long shadow across the ground, and on the ground...

A sword. It was bright red and gold, its hilt inlaid with jewels and rubies, flashing off in the cold night. I reached down, grabbing its hilt, a shiver crawling up my spine. The grip was familiar and comforting. I felt my mind ease, a cold memory rising out of the darkness. My name.

Its Lucinda.

I grabbed the sword, feeling renewed relief, but i knew, that was all i was gonna get out of this. I slowly started walking, the combat boots fit comfortably on my feet. I continued in silence, feeling sad, lonely, and scared. I had no family, no friends. I looked up, the moon was full, and i could hear the howls of the wolves, the tweeting of the birds, and hoots from the owls. Despite the chill air which turned my breath to frost, I was warm. I raised my head, closing my eyes to think. No family, no friends. Nothing. Tears stung at my eyes, threatening to spill down my face.

I opened my eyes, shoving down the feeling of crying, and loneliness, scanning the area. I know there's shelter... somewhere...

I caught sight of a small wheat farm, the long harvest coming to my thighs in height, and buildings, faintly visible, surrounding it. I felt my heart leap in my chest. I can make friends. Have a family or maybe I can find someone.... I can have somewhat a normal life.I closed my eyes, and opened them, then blinked repeatedly to make sure i was seeing something real. Why does it mean so much to me that I have to check if it's real?. That's more confusing to where I am. Who I am. It was real.

I could see a man, his face was masked, his eyes were a bright silver-green, his hair was a midnight black, jetting around his head in a mess of tufts.

I narrowed my eyes, trying to recognize him. He looks so familiar. My heart pounds, my body lungs to go to him. Then he smirked, his eyes flashed in the darkness, before he was gone. I spun around, turning in circles. He was nowhere to be found.

I walked up slowly to the village, stopping at the first house i saw. It was a small shack, unused and abandoned. I slipped inside without notice. It was not as small as the outside made it look. There was a bookshelf, holding unused books.

Maybe a writer formerly lived there, and forgot it. It also had a weapons rack, that held nothing but cobwebs and dust. There was a chest in the corner of the room, next to a desk, that held a journal, and two candles. And thankfully, on the other side of the desk, was a bed. I slumped down in it, and was asleep before my head hit the pillow.

~Archer~

I walked up the steps in my village. It was late at night, and the chill air nipped my skin through my light armor. I remember the day I first got it. As soon as I left the academy. It was black and white metal, that linked in together, sliding around my wrists and chest, arms, ankles and legs. In the center, was a fire red cross.

Disgust boiled through my veins. Now I was in a small, quiet village. Not quite like Emansaris, or Glacier island. The two biggest towns in the region of je-kuhn.

The night was quiet, and steady. The nightly patrol was the same. Nothing new...

I stopped at the library, looking inside.

Evelyn, the librarian, was nose deep in a book, a notebook of her studies and notes on the desk beside her. She had a pencil in the crook of her ear, her silky silver-blonde hair fell over it, her teil eyes were scanning the page, and interested.

I smiled and walked in, the bell sounded, causing her to looked up with a dazzling smile.

" Archer, my favorite guard. To What do I owe the pleasures." She said lightly in her small child like voice. I have been close friends with her since before I let to the academy. She left when I did to be a scholar, when she was old enough to do so. I left at eleven years old, and so did she. But for very different reasons. I shuddered as the image of a knife flashed in my mind.

" The very fact you aren't resting right now, actually. Why aren't you asleep, don't you have to go to Glacier Island tomorrow?" I asked, pulling a chair up to her desk. I ran a hand through my hair before seating myself down and tilting my head, waiting for her response.

She smiled, looking at her book. But I could tell she was a little interested in what I'm saying. Probably for a book rant, which every visitor of the Library gained by making conversation with her.

" I am studying the Sun Paladin.. I know there were like, ten of them, but l can only find a few books on at most four of them. Emma the Phoenix is the main one. The leader of them in fact. Then there's Luna the Guardian, Emma's best friend, Kole the enchanter, the magic user of them, and finally..... Emma's partner...Sebastian the keep. In these i also caught a hint of another protector, Ivy, the seraph. But it doesn't say anything about her besides what she meant to Emma." She informed me, her eyes bright with interest and joy. I thought about this, but it turned to liquid in my brain. Damn my bad memory. I tilted my head again, encouraging her to go on. This is quite a simple subject.

" But, I can't find out what happened to the books on Emma's second friend, the last male of them. Travis the dark whisper. In Emma's few books it talks about him often, their friendship. But then, it gets to a certain spot about his hidden love for Emma then, afterwards anything involving him was ripped out of the book. And no books can be found anywhere about him" She exclaimed with clear frustration. I think it was more about the damage to the books than the lack of info it caused. Or it could be both. But you could never tell with Evelyn. She gets incredibly angry over almost anything regaurding respect for books. She's more likely skewer someone than let them off with a fee for damaged books. That's probably why people are too scared to check out her books.

" Hey calm down Evel. Okay?" I lightly touched her slim, bony fingers. She nodded, as if my touch gave her some kind of comfort. She smiled, but the sadness in her gaze didn't falter.

" I'm gonna get some sleep." She whispers and walks over to her bed, before falling to sleep. I stood and quietly took my leave, and stepping outside, before closing my eyes. I was exhausted, but I couldn't do anything about it. I opened my eyes and smiled. Every since the baron disappeared, two weeks ago, everything was cold, and harsh, but Evelyn still keeps her faith, and that faith, is the faith that feeds the whole town. I start down the walk and freeze. There's a man, his black hair blowing wildly around his head, and his silver-green eyes bore into mine even between the few hundred yards between us.

Who is he?

I drew my sword, and I could hear his laugh, all the way over here before he flicked a finger, and a wave of ice shot toward me. It stopped barely an inch away from me. There was a steady flickering aura surrounding me. What happened? How? Why?

I immediately knew that as soon as this sheild breaks it will kill me. But it's worth the shot. I lunged to the left and the ice hurtled past spearing into a wall. My breathing was heavy. That man... Somehow he controlled ice, had sent it hurling at me... To kill me. Magic exists? I thought it had fled from the lands when the Sun Paladin left, faded.

It can't be true... But yet...

That person had waiting there. Waiting for me. He knew I would come.. But how? It's like he's been...

Spying.

Who is he? Where is he? I guess I'll find out later. I turned. This is one very strange night. I move toward the Guards keep. But something grounds me to the very spot I'm at. I look around, fear creeping up my spine, before rushing back to the Keep to return my stuff.
