Richie stood by my side as we gazed at the towering columns in the distance. The scorching sun beat down upon the sand which made me thankful that we found this small cave to rest under. I looked over at Richie who was breathing hard. We had ran out of water about 7 hours ago, and along with the infected gash in his side, he was really feeling the effects of it all.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I'm fine girl, don't worry about me."
"If we dont get water soon and that wound cleaned, you will die." I said matter-of-factly.
"Okay, that may be, but we can't go in yet. We don't know what we will be getting ourselves into."
I glanced at a small caravan heading to the columns from a short distance away from our location.
"I will hitch a ride with them. As soon as they pass, I will climb in the back of the last wagon. In your shape, it's best if you stay here. I will get water, medicine and bandages. The sun will be setting soon so I can come back in the cover of nightfall, right before they shut the doors for the night -"
"No. Alright? NO. I am not letting you go in there alone, especially with you being a woman. You've heard the stories, and I know all gossip ain't real, but come on! I get it, you don't think I'm a real man, but I gotta tell ya, at least I look the part luv. With that chest, and those hips, you ain't fooling anyone sweetie."
I looked down and admitted he was right. I compared my long dress to his tunic and an idea began to form.
"Give me your clothes, Rich."
