I stepped back into the crowd and shielded my face. This woman's fate had me scared to be found out.
"Sir please. I don't think I would be of any use to your fine city. Please m'lord, allow me to go back with my family and I promise they will return with the finest resources we can find." The woman could barely be heard, but her desperate plea reached my heart. I looked up at the Captain, sure that he would be moved by such a request, however he began to laugh loudly.
"You are most right wench. You would definitely not be of use to our city. Women are not to speak unless told . . Therefore I will grant your request to stay with your family," and without another word, he unsheathed his sword and sliced through her neck with a clear swish.
I was in shock as I saw the blood dripping on the sandy stone. The Captain did not give the rest of the caravan time to react as he ordered his men to kill them all. I watched in horror as each member fell to the ground until the last man standing was the caravan leader.
"What have you done?" the man cried as he pulled the girl's body close to his chest.
"I fulfilled her request. Am I not merciful?" The Captain walked slowly over to stand in front of the man as his armoured boot fell to crush the girl's head in a pile of blood, bones and brains. "Now go be with your family," then he sliced the man's head off as well.
