Milani rushed back to her apartment and dashed inside crying. She couldn't believe she betrayed her father and sent him off to a rehabilitation center. "What did I do?" She yelled flinging herself on the couch. Weeping, she took off her clothes and ran into the shower. Time flew by and she was still lying on the shower floor as hot water dropped on her skin. She didn't care about the water bill at that moment all she could think about was her father. Her dad was the only person there for her all her life, her mother abandoned her and she had no friends. Yet she betrayed him by sending him off to another state to live like a prisoner in a rehab center.
After what seemed like forever Milani got out of the shower and slipped into her pajamas. She sat on her bed working on her homework and read novels until it was time for her to go to bed.
The next morning Milani woke up feeling like shit as she dragged her body out her bed and into the bathroom. Today she had midterms and she couldn't be more nervous even though she studied. "Okay, I got this all I need to do is get at least 90 percent on each midterm and I'll be okay." Milani picked up an apple and walked out her house to the bus stop.
After what felt like forever the day was over and she sat in front of the school waiting for Brian to take her home.
The wind flew against her hair; the strands blowing through her hoodie. It was as if the earth wanted to show off her beautiful curly black hair. Caesar's eyes roamed her body like no one very had before. The two were like fire and ice, nothing but themselves could keep each other apart. They knew they weren't good for each other but they couldn't help it. Their friendship was like a drug, one could not escape from it. Milani wanted to forgive Caesar for calling her a one-night stand but she couldn't find it in her heart to forgive such vile words so easily. She had no idea that the boy she longed for was gawking at her from a distance. All she could focus on was her father and how he was doing.
Step-by-step Caesar grew closer to the girl he called best friend for so long. "Hey..." Caesar said exhausted and gloomy. Milani closed her book and turned around to where the voice came from. "I'm sorry for causing you so much problems, and for making you so unhappy these past few weeks." Milani looked up at Caesar with teary eyes as she struggled to bury them with her sleeve. "I can't believe that I didn't notice I was hurting your feelings. I miss you so much," cried Caesar as he swiftly tried to stop the tear from rolling down his cheek. Without thought Milani got up and hugged her best friend, she couldn't take seeing her best friend cry. "It's okay, god I missed you too," The small girl broke down in his chest. "I still love you," Caesar sniffled, "even though you probably don't love me the same anymore."
Milani looked up saddened at the fact that he thought she didn't love him anymore. "I will always love you forever, Caesar," promised Milani. The two cracked a smile at each other as they held each other by the waist. Brian walked up next to Milani and glanced at the scene before he coughed which alarmed the reconciling friends. "Get a room you two," Brian joked. Over the past few weeks Milani and Brian hanged out. They grew far closer as friends and had a the same connection she had with Caesar. After their date last Saturday they both agreed to remain just friends and would be there for each other if they were ever lonely.
"Hey Brian," uttered Milani still in between Caesars chest.
Brian replied "Hey babe," before bursting into laughter at the look of Caesars angered face. "It's a joke calm down buddy, Milani and I are just friends."
Caesar settled down after he heard that the two were only friends, but he still did not let go of the small girl in front of him. "Do you want me to drive you home?" Caesar questioned Milani. "Yes, that's a great idea, also Brian and I are having a movie night tonight. You can come if you want," Milani agreed.
Before yesterday Milani was saddened about being alone in her apartment but now that she and Caesar reconciled she was much happier. It was like a light shined over her at the thought of not being along on the weekends while Brian wasn't hanging out with her. "You ready to go?" Brian asked Milani as he picked up her book bag and walked to his car and drove off. While Milani and Caesar made their way to Caesar sports car.
The ride with Caesar was difficult for Milani, not only did they not see each other for weeks but they still hadn't talked about the one-night stand. I could cut the tension in the car with a knife if I wanted to, Milani thought looking out the window. Caesar worriedly turned to the girl he called his friend as they were at a red light, "You okay? You're not as talkative anymore like we were before, you know the situation." The thought distracted her, and she both yearned to talk about it but it scared her that if they talked, their friendship would be ruined permanently.
Picking up the courage Milani took a deep breath and said something she never imagined she would say out loud. "Even though I remember little from that night I know I probably enjoyed it. It was both of our faults and it was a mistake, so can we please not talk about it anymore?" She sighed in relief and rested her head on the window, both happy that she got everything off her chest and frightened that Caesar would feel uncomfortable.
It was silent in the car at first but then the boy next to her chuckled, his chuckle was low and soft. Milani smiled, she had missed the sounds of his laughter for the past month and now that she finally got it back she was truly content. "We're here," the apartment building came into sight and the two got out of the car and walked inside. Brian was slouched on the wall next to Milani's apartment door. Opening the door, the three friends made themselves at home and sat on the living room couch watching horror movies all night.
12:00am, the sky outside was pitch black and Milani was trying her hardest not to yawn. "It's getting late, should we continue watching the movie tomorrow?" Milani asked with a yawn as sleep caught up with her. "But I'm down with staying the night," Brian shrugged pulling the blanket all the way on him. Not a second later Caesar blurted out, "yeah I'm staying too," standing up Milani walked back to her cramped bed next to the kitchen and jumped on it. "I'm exhausted, goodnight guys." She said before falling asleep.
The next morning she woke up to Caesar laying down next to her and Brian at the foot of her couch. Milani couldn't help but giggle at the sight of her two close friends sleeping soundly. Quietly Milani got out of her bed and walked to her bathroom closing the door before brushing her teeth and then hopping into the shower. What should I wear today? Milani questioned herself as she shut off the shower wrapping her hair in a towel, then wrapped herself in a separate thick towel.
After dressing herself quickly, Milani walked out the bathroom and into the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Milani cooked her all-time favorite breakfast for her and her two friends. The sizzling sound of Milani's omurice omelet was pleasure in her ears as she flipped the omelet on the pot. The scent floated around the room, waves of delicious hot air left the food and into Milani's nostrils as she sniffed her masterpiece. "I could just eat it all for me while they sleep," Milani said drooling while looking at the time.
The girl walked up to her two friends and kicked them off the bed and couch causing them to fall off and wake up. There was a look of discombobulation on the two boys faces as they scrambled off the floor, wondering how they got there. "Oh, my god you two should have seen your faces," Milani said with a hysterical laugh. "What's that smell?" Brian asked sniffing the air. "It's a traditional Asian breakfast, I hope you guys like it." All three of them ate in silence as they savored the amazing food. "It's delicious," Caesar replies licking his fingers. "I agree," Brian responded sipping his orange juice. "Thank you," Milani blushed smiling at the fact that they liked her food. "I appreciate it."
