Chapter 23 - When you love someone

Milani walked out the staff room of her restaurant with a mop and mopped the floor. It had been a busy night, and she had to finish tidying up then lock up the restaurant. "Chris honey you don't have to help." His girlfriend complained to him. "I want to help, besides why would I let you stay here all alone?" Her boyfriend teased. "Fine, honey let's lock this place up and head home. I miss my beautiful munchkins." Answered his small girlfriend. The next morning Milani woke up to the sound of her doorbell ringing repeatedly. She looked at the time and saw it was noon. "Who the hell is up this early," Milani groaned looking at a sleeping Chris. Getting up Milani walked out the stairs and opened her door to an excited Jasmine. "Babe you won't believe what just happened," Jasmine yelled jumping into her friends' arms. "Slow down, you're talking too fast," Milani said rubbing the sleep away from her eyes. "Mason proposed!" Jasmine blurted out jumping in the air. "What?!" Suddenly Milani wasn't sleepy anymore and was jumping with her friend.

"When did this happen?" Milani questioned her best friend looking at her gigantic ring. "An hour ago, Mason took me to this garden filled with roses and there was this live band that played the violin and piano. He asked me to marry him while we were walking. Omg I can't believe I'm getting married." Jasmine squealed at her friend. "I'm so happy for you." Milani hugged her best friend. "Mason said he wanted to get married right now at a courtroom and I came over to ask you to be my maid of honor." Her eyes bulged out at the news her friend just told her. "Right now?!" Jasmine nodded pointing down at her white gown. A gasp came out of her mouth, she hadn't even noticed Jasmine was wearing a wedding dress this entire time. "Omg, omg it's happening. Hold on I'll go wake everybody up and we'll meet you guys at the courthouse." Jasmine nodded handing her best friend a dress. "Here's the maid of honor dress, I know it's merely been an hour since I got proposed to but a girl went shopping." She joked before leaving out the house.

Milani rushed up the stairs and into her bedroom, shaking her sleeping boyfriend. "Hmm what?" He groaned. "Mason proposed to Jasmine! Omg I can't believe two people I cherish the most are getting married!" As her excitement grew, she spoke faster. "What? Really," Chris sat up. "Yes she came over and showed me her ring, they're getting married today at a courthouse." She yelled frantically. "Mommy why are you yelling so much?" Romeo yawned at the door of her bed. "Oh baby I'm sorry I didn't know you were there, I didn't mean to wake you up." Milani said picking up her prince. "Is your sister awake?" Romeo nodded his head at his mom. "She's in the bathroom peeing," kissing her baby boy Milani held his hand and walked to their bathroom.

Alana was on the toilet peeing when Milani went into the bathroom and turned on the tub. "You two ready for your bath?" She asked. "Where are we going mommy?" Alana replied. "Well, auntie Jasmine and uncle Mason are getting married." She chuckled softly at her kids shocked faces. "Married?!" They shouted in union. Milani giggled as she dried her kids. "If you both behave, then you'll get to see auntie in her princess dress." They nodded their tiny little heads at their mothers offer.

After dressing her kids Milani took her shower then dressed in the dress Jasmine bought. It was a long suede black mermaid dress, and it hugged all of Milani's curves. The dress was perfect on her and it made Milani feel as if she was an elegant woman. When she finished applying her makeup and doing her hair, she walked downstairs greeting her three favorite people. "Mommy you look like a Queen," Alana said admiring her mother's looks. "Yeah mommy looks beautiful," Romeo agreed. "Thank you," She replied kissing them on their forehead. "Wow you look stunning," The blush on her cheek spread as she looked at her boyfriend who was wearing a sharp black suit. "You don't look bad yourself." Taking Milani in his arms Chris' lips covered hers in a hot passionate kiss that left the two dazed and short of breath. "Ewwww!" Romeo and Alana yelled in disgust at the sight of their mother kissing her boyfriend. "Alright lets go," Milani said rolling her eyes.

The family of four walked to their car. They were driving at a steady speed not too fast but also not too slow. Chris drove downtown to the courthouse where his baby sister would get married at. He would have never thought his little sister would be the first one out of all their siblings to get married.

Little Romeo sat quietly in the backseat whereas Alana kept going on and on about how her day was at school on Friday. Milani noticed ever since they were babies how much quieter Romeo was than his sister. He got his traits from his mother whereas the chatterbox next to him got her traits from her father. Her daughter was an exact copy of her dad, Caesar. Milani couldn't help but snicker at how cute her daughter was as she talked about playing tag with her friends. Then about getting a kiss on the cheek from a boy she liked in her class. Their car wasn't luxurious like what Milani was used to but it was perfect to her. "Hey baby, do you want to go on a vacation one day? Just you me and the kids." Milani asked her boyfriend as she stared out the window. The weather was bright and warm, just like how Milani felt inside. "Sure, Maybe when I'm not busy." He replied before pulling up in a parking lot in front of the courthouse.

After a lot of waiting, it was finally Jasmine and Masons turn to get hitched and Milani couldn't have been more ecstatic. Her best friend and her life long brother we're about to get married and she would be in the room as a witness. "State your names?" The priest asked. "Mason Michaels," The groom replied. "Jasmine Pepperson." The beautiful bride said giggling. "By the power vested in me, I pronounce you, husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." Mason slipped one arm around his wife's neck and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. It was so beautiful that it made Milani tear up. Jasmine looked back to her best friend and smiled mouthing her a thank you.

The two lovebirds walked down the aisle and exited the courtroom with Milani and her family following. "Care to go on our honeymoon wife?" Mason joked pecking her palm. "Hmm of course I would husband." Jasmine purred back at her lover. "Okay okay you two, save it for the bedroom." Milani insisted pushing them out the building and into their car. "Meet at my place for the ceremony," Mason said before stepping on the gas and leaving.

"You heard the guy, to his house." Milani said jokingly with a snap to her boyfriend. Chris looked into Milani's eyes as he said "Alright lady, so bossy."

When they reached at Mason's penthouse they celebrated their friends marriage and joked around. Milani was walking from the bathroom where she saw Mason sitting all alone. "What's wrong?" Milani asked. "Nothing, I just remembered how I haven't talked to my family for five years now." She sat next to him and folded her arms. "They deserve to know that you're married or safe at least." Mason shook his head. "I can't forgive Caesar for what he did." Rolling her eyes Milani stood up and turned to her friend. "You have to forgive him someday, or else you'll be miserable holding in all this grudge against him. Promise me you'll forgive him and not leave your family in the dry. Tomorrow morning you're going to your parents house and reconciling with them, or else I'll have Jasmine make you." She smirked walking away.

Meanwhile on the other side of the state Caesar and his family were having a family dinner. Everybody looked at the vacant chair which used to be filled by his brother with pain. "You don't think he's dead do you?" Caesars mother asked her husband. "Our child is capable of himself, he wouldn't go down so easily," Her husband reassured her. "Not to be that person but we all saw that video, Milani is probably the only person who knows where he is. But wait where's Milani? Oh yeah Caesar threw her to the curb and now she disappeared along with our brother." Caesars little sister Brittany commented. "Brittany!" Her mother yelled. "It isn't Caesars fault, I'm sure he feels bad as it is." The room went silent and Caesar cleared his throat before getting up. "Thank you mother for this dinner but I have to go back to work," His face was emotionless, but his sisters words still impacted him.

Deep down inside Caesar knew it was his fault that Milani disappeared and that his brother left with her. Had they developed a relationship? He would think to himself every night after seeing that video. Maybe if he didn't divorce her, then his brother would still be here. Caesar would always say to himself whenever he thought about his brother. Things weren't great for Caesar, he loved his daughter Mary and Sarah deeply but no woman could ever make Caesar feel what he felt with Milani. Caesar walked to his car and drove back to his building. "Boss we have a problem, the president of that company you wanted to partner up with has been arrested for fraud." Caesar cursed under his breath at the news. "And why are you telling me this?" He asked walking inside the executive elevator. "Because the cops are here to question you if you were involved with the fraud," He blinked, shocked when he heard those words. "Where are the cops now?" Caesar questioned. "In your office sir," Caesar and his secretary walked out from the elevator and straight into his office.

"Hello Mr. Michaels, I am detective Sanchez and this is detective Jackson," The two detectives shook Caesar's hand and sat back down on the chairs. "Hello officers, what may I help you with?" Replied Caesar emotionlessly. "We received a tip that you were planning on having a partnership with Donald smith," The other detective glared at him then held up a copy of Donald and Caesars contract. "Yes detective, we planned on having a partnership, but as you can see I had nothing to do with his fraud and I had no idea what he was doing. We were solely business associates that had no communication outside the business world. You can even do a background investigation on me." Caesar reassured the two detectives with a smirk. "If that is all you may leave now," Caesar said pointing to his executive secretary to show them out. "Pleasure speaking with you Mr. Michaels," they said as they exited the office.

Caesar sighed untying his tie. His sigh was a mixture of relief frustration. Donald smith had flushed the millions of dollars their companies could have gained with that partnership down the toilet thanks to his fraud arrest. "Sir, the detectives are gone," his secretary said entering the office. "Thank you Benjamin, you may leave now." He said rubbing his temple in frustration.

Even though he was frustrated Caesar continued filling out paperwork hoping to find another business where he could profit more money and keep his mind off his life. "Benjamin bring up last weeks paperwork and mail these invitations out." In a few seconds Caesars secretary come into his office with a stack of reports and laid them on the seat before taking the invitations from Caesar and walked out.

All the paperwork kept Caesar attached to his desk until it was after midnight and he had no choice but to pull an all nighter. There were a few people in the building that also stayed to pull an all-nighter which made Caesar feel less lonely than he already was. Caesar glanced at the time and saw it was already eight in the morning. Time had sped by and he had no idea.

The buzzing of the phone pulled Caesar out of concentration. Whipping his phone out of his pocket and spoke into it. "Hello mom," he listened for a moment, hearing his mom cry in the background. "Oh honey, it's your brother," Caesar rose from his chair and placed his phone off speaker and to his ear. "Is he hurt? Is... is he dead?" Caesar asked frantically. "No, no, he's fine," sobbed his mother. "He came home," she wailed with a laugh. "My baby finally came home," Caesar got up and pulled his jacket over his body. "I'm on my way," The drive to his mother's mansion made Caesar both nervous and anxious. What had his older brother been up to those past five years? and why did he leave? All those questions circulating in Caesar's mind would soon be answered as he reached the driveway of his mother's home. Parking his car Caesar sprang forward out of his car and towards the door, eager to see his brother.

Knocking on the door he was greeted by his father who walked him to the living room where his brother was facing his back towards Caesar. Step-by-step Caesar walked closer to his brother and saw he grew taller and had dyed his hair black instead of having his natural blonde hair. "Oh honey I missed you so much," Caesars mom said hugging her son. "Caesar come over here," his mom said after noticing him in the room. Slowly Mason turned towards Caesar, his smile dropping. "Hey..." Caesar said to his brother.

Mason ignored his comment and punched his rough in his gut. "That's for screwing my ex fiancée," Everybody in the room gasped at Masons comment, staring at the scene. "You did what?!" Brittany yelled at her brother. "Oh he didn't tell you guys? Yeah, Caesar here fucked Sarah and got her pregnant." Mason laughed patting his brother on his back. "You told us you were only taking care of Sarah's daughter because Mason abandoned them!" Their father exclaimed. "But that's behind me now, bros before hoes," he said punching his brother in the stomach another time. The wind knocked out of Caesar after the second hit to his stomach. "How did you find out? And I deserved that first hit but come on the second one was brutal," he said coughing. "A little birdie told me all about your nasty secret." Mason replied.

"How have you been son," their dad asked Mason. "I've been great actually, I feel refreshed after these five years. I'm a new person thanks to someone special." Mason moved his hand out of his pocket and showed his ring finger. "Omg Mason you got married and didn't bother telling us?!" Brittany yelled slapping her big brothers arm.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry sheesh," Mason laughed. Caesars heart clenched as he remembered that surveillance video of his ex wife kissing Mason's cheek. "Who's the lucky lady?" Caesar asked gulping afraid to hear him say Milani's name. "Her names Jasmine, she's the love of my life." There was a grin visible on Mason's face after those words. A sigh of relief Caesar didn't realize he was holding blew out. "When are we going to meet her?" Their mom asked smiling. "I don't know, we lives across the state and she's working right now. Plus, she doesn't know that I'm from a wealthy family." He answered shrugging. "She sounds like a nice young woman, Brenda." Their dad said to his wife. "I agree William," Brenda said to her husband.

"Well, I have to go," Mason said looking at his watch. "Promise you'll come back honey, and won't leave us again," Brenda cried. "I won't I already promised someone I'd forgive Caesar and come back." After that Mason left the mansion and drove back to his home.
