Chapter 19 - It was you wasn't it?

Few months later

"Caesar I'll be back in a few minutes. I've got to go buy more chips for our movie marathon. Make yourself comfortable in my room but, don't touch anything or I'll punch you."

Things are perfect as it is Milani said to herself as she walked down the street. Listening to the regular tap of her flats touching the ground and the creaking noise each step made. While she listened to the sounds of her own voice humming, she pictured her living her life with Caesar. The image of an elder couple sitting on their porch with their five grandkids and their kids playing out in the snow. To say Milani was geeked over her best friend would be an understatement, she was obsessed with loving him. Of course not, the crazy obsession but she was pushing borderline crazy thinking and being with him every day.

She walked on the concrete pavement, shivering in the wintry weather. A new coat was extremely expensive for Milani to afford and the money from her job she never used to buy stuff for herself. All her money went to the bills and rent she had to pay or else they'd be living on the streets. "Why can't I be a normal teenager in love?" She signed strolling into the gas station.

"Ok I need chips, drinks, and what else?" She asked herself going down the isles. Milani's blush rose, she'd just knocked a pack of condoms on the floor as she was turning down the isle. Her gaze grew intense on the pack, should she buy them just in case? Or was she overreacting and wouldn't need them tonight? "I'm just overreacting I mean we had sex once. Yeah and we were drunk it will never happen again," She said trying to reassure herself.

The sound of someone clearing their throat next to her startled her enough to make her drop the condoms. "Milani right?" She turned her gaze over to the guy next to her and saw it was one of Caesars school friends.

"Oh hi Brian," You could feel the awkward tension between the two thrive. "Buying condoms? You should get the Trojans instead, just a tip." He asked pointing at the pack. "Oh no they just fell, I'm absolutely not buying condoms," The two laughed as he picked up the pack and put it back for her. "Having a party at home?" He questioned. "Oh, no Caesar and I are just having a movie night." Milani replied. "And you didn't invite me?" His smile made her fluster. "Um do you want to come?" She responded. "Yeah," the two walked to the register and payed for their things.

Brian was on the defense for the team, he was an excellent student and a great athlete. He wasn't the typical rich boy, Brian cared about his grades and didn't flaunt his money in peoples faces. Milani knew he wasn't bad to look at either, in fact he was gorgeous. It was like all of Caesars friends were sculpted by god himself.

As they walked down the street back to her house she wondered why a rich boy was even near a neighborhood like hers? Maybe he was meeting up with someone? Or maybe he just got lost. She thought as they walked in silence. "So, um Milani I kind of wanted to ask you something but every time I tried Caesar was always there interrupting me." He hesitated. "But well would you mind being my date to prom?" Milani's eyes bulged out. How could someone so perfect like Brian ask her out? This has got to be a dream, she thought to herself.

Brian was extremely cute to her, and maybe if she went to prom with him then she'd forget about her silly feelings for her best friend. Milani looked at Brian as he nervously stroked his arm. "I'd love to go to prom with you," That bright smile creeped its way back onto his face after hearing those words. "Really? Great, I can't wait to go with you." He said as they reached the door to her house.

Opening the door, she led him to the living room where Caesar sat eating cookies. "I'm back," her best friend looked up from the tv and stared in confusion. "Why are you here Brian?" He asked. "Oh we bumped into each other at the gas station and I thought why not invite him?" Milani answered as she unbagged the chips and drinks. "Yeah but why? Isn't it supposed to be us two only?" He answered back. "Actually I saw her buying stuff, and I went up to her to say hi then we talked and she invited me over. Also if I didn't say yes, I wouldn't have had the courage to ask her out any other day."

Caesar felt possessive, wondering why he would ever try to ask Milani out, and why she agreed. "And you said yes?" He stood up walking to Milani. "Well, yeah why wouldn't I?" Tension in the room grew with every second that passed. "Because you were supposed to go with me to the prom not this wannabe." Her friend blurted out.

"Listen Caesar, you're acting like a fucking dick I'm not obligated to going to prom with you. I can do what I want and be with whom I want, leave my love life alone." A tear threatened to fall down her cheek after she finished saying those words. "Also why do you care who I go to prom with? Don't you have a whole fan base that wouldn't even hesitate to go to prom with you!"

"It seems like you two need space to talk so I'll just leave you two alone," Brian got up walking to the front door but Milani stopped him. "No, Brian you stay here, Caesar please leave," Her voice trembled. "I don't care if you're jealous or not, but either way this is disgusting," she said in a disappointed voice so firm that Caesar flinched. "You can't be serious right now!?" He exclaimed. "I'm your best friend and you're kicking me out? For what? This guy?" He replied.

At that point she'd had enough of his mind games. "You know what, fuck you Caesar I'm sick and tired of your negative energy. You've been coming for me for no reason. You're crazy, I thought you'd be happy for me since you're my best friend. But I guess we aren't what I thought we were, and FYI best friends don't fuck each other. I'd rather not be friends with benefits with someone like you so either deal with me going out with Brian or you can kiss our friendship goodbye." With that she pushed him out the house door without letting him say anything.

"I'm so sorry you had to see that, I don't know what got into him today," Brian caressed her arm up and down trying to relax her muscles. "It's okay Lani, this isn't the first time Caesar got upset about you getting asked out."

"I'm tired," she stated, opening a bag of chips. The knocking on her front door kept interrupting Milani from her thoughts. Storming to the door she slammed it open and yelled. "What? What could you possibly want now Caesar? Did you want to continue arguing with me? Do you want the argue with Brian? Or perhaps you want to judge me? Well, go right ahead I'm listening."

After her rant was over Caesar finally had the chance to speak. "You said best friends don't fuck...It was you wasn't it? The person I had a one-night stand with?" Sadness was visible in his voice as he stared at his friend.

All she could think about right now was how to run away quickly but Caesar blocked her from the exit. "Answer me Milani, you're the girl I slept with huh?" Caesar demanded again. "Congrats you finally realized." She replied bitterly. "When were you going to tell me?" He exclaimed with a saddened expression.

"I don't know," the girl returned. "I just don't know." With that Milani shut the door in his face and walked back to the living room crying.
