Chapter 5 - :Hex

There was a rocket booster factory near the platform of Liu Avenue. No, Liu Avenue is a district used by the Kingdom of Elena to supervise their rocket-building needs. I believe there are about fourteen warehouses where they would create the rockets, module by module. The usual timeframe to create the rockets was about three months with the current technology

Fresh air was not lacking in the streets. The buildings were glistening despite the pollution being released by the vehicles. The technology of turning carbon into breathable oxygen can only be credited to the long-eared folks. Their technology in accordance with nature is astonishing. My meager skills are not able to keep up with this kind of technology magic-runes and programming. I am not high tiered enough to study two at the same time. Not to mention that I am a powerless human who has no qualifications to wield the powers of this world.

There are three types of people in this world. The first ones are those who can wield the unearthly powers without catalyst and those who need catalysts to wield the powers. The rest are born with their abilities. How do I know? I am from a reality where this world is just a multi-series franchise of visual novels and action games.

There is a lot to take in about this world. I've been living here ever since I was a kid, yet, my heart still believes that I was a resident of that world.

The alliance of men stood united. Dragons are allies. They try to live with us. I entered the academy and went straight to the lecture. I listened, and went to the room where I would usually go and did my work on translating the assembly language to what I know. My problem was that I had to do it in binary, decimal, octal, and hexadecimal. I have no idea if I could even do up base 54.

I went out of my room. The smell of petrol filled the air. As I walk through the streets of this city, I heard the speakers warning everyone about Liu Avenue's recent testing. They did not want another event of folks dying out of an accident.

I reached a boulevard with stores facing each other. They were attracting customers and the lights were multi-colored. It was crowded. People were as loud as the store owners were. The scent of bread and rose intertwined. Children were eyeing the toy seller. He was happy for the business.

Went out of that place and I was into an arched bridge. It was made of solid marble and stone. There are boats passing by the arched bridge. The river existed here that allowed everyone to navigate the waters of the Kingdom of Elena. It surrounded the Kingdom like overgrown roots. The river was about four-storied deep. The elders tell tales of mermaids and depth lurkers. I know they exist down there since I had read it. It would be fun to see them rise from the water.

I did not do much after watching the river. I went to the café that served those strange chicken lollipops. I call them chickens but they call them differently here.

I met her. She was no threat. Actually, I felt bad for what I have done to her. "No harm was done," she said. However, I still tried to be apologetic and invited her to eat the food that I ordered. I treasure my time peacefully even though I know that this was a twisted world of a franchise. There was nothing impossible when it comes to the improbable. There are many multi-verses out there and this doesn't bother me anymore. I think so.

She ranted about my cruelty for thirty minutes. After that, she went on and lived her strange life – she was contemplating whether to return to her trade of killing. I wasn't her brain so there was no need to tell her what path she should take. What I learned in my life was that only you can influence them – but never change their mind.

We parted ways on an arched bridge connected to the Mara O' Patio. It was a cathedral and an arena that served as the training grounds for the Patio Knights, the Crusading Knights of the Kingdom of Elena, servants of the Light, Guardians of Kingdom.

Crusading Knights are Paladins that are tasked to keep vigil over the outskirts of the Kingdom. Although this world has developed into a modern world resembling a hybrid of the modern era and cold-war era, it was still full of danger. The under-society's filled with the demi-folks. But there are still a lot of monsters around the outskirts of this world. Society tends to think of them as a nuisance since a gun could kill them easily or a flyby with a helicopter could kill them.

It's false. I know because I am familiar with them. A pack of wolves can be dangerous – they can tear you to shreds in a single minute if you are surrounded. It would be too stupid not to treat inhumane monsters that could spit poison and secrete hallucinogen as dangerous.

So the Patio Knights are still around to purge the inhumane monsters from the face of this world. They wander the outskirts and the borders with their traditional full plate armor. They carry so much gear for monster exterminations. Picture a Crusader in plate armor wearing a Kevlar vest and underneath that are their chainmail – plus their ammunition. They carry over fifty kilos worth of equipment.

What's monstrous about them are that they are about seven feet in height and are as agile as monkeys despite wearing all those gear. They are one of the superhuman men of this world. Trained from the moment they are taken to the Mara O' Patio. In the series that I know, there were no stray Patio Knights and they are pretty much what you'd expect for a special force that are the monsters of monsters.

...

I strolled back to my apartment. The old man was smoking near my door again. He pinched his cigar the moment our eyes met. I quietly snorted and went inside my apartment. I turned on the television. The titans of Los Tule seems to be heading to the Valley of Tal for their daily rituals. The television showed me an aerial view of the Los Tule Titans walking the seas. Magic's dying and I want to believe that I am right in that regard but things like this are making me doubt myself. You see anyone who listens to the stories without doubting said teller of the story would be a fool. Maybe, I am hiding something? I could be telling you lies but you would only take it as a face value statement. I would be lying right now.

Sorry, I was just joking. Still, there are times where I had to clearly manage the information that I know of this world. For example, the fact about what the endgame of this world was. You see, there's an information that I am hiding from you. This information is critical to the plot of this world – and the role of the one who was chosen by this world.

I can fight. I am confident in that regard. But the absurd scale of the events that would happen soon is beyond me. Make no mistake, I am following the dreams that I have ever since I was a village folk who hated revolutionary taxes. Do you think anyone sane would continue a life of hatred and violence after spending half of your life living it? I wish I can say that I was a pacifist that preferred peace more than war. But I have times where I would possess rage that I couldn't control. Honestly, I was scared of losing control of my own emotions. I have bottled it up since childhood and even the monthly 'get-drunk-and-crawl-back-home' coping mechanism doesn't work lately.

I looked at my room. On the table, there were empty bottles and cigarettes. On the floor were sheets of paper that I threw with crossed-out words. Some of the blinds were closed and the ceiling fan slowly turns. There's a lingering smoke that fogged the room. The television lighted up the room and the newscaster was stern-faced while narrating the news for the day.

Outside, there was no trace of smoke or dirty clouds that covered the whole skyline of the city. The stars could be seen and beyond that were bright lights coming from the rocket booster testing grounds. From the other side of my apartment room was the dim-lit room where she was staying. She lives across my own apartment. I am not particularly bothered since I made sure that we are no longer enemies and that our grievances have been solved properly. I didn't want to be harsh or choose to be unreasonable. I just want peace and she accepted it.

This was just another day.
